Why didn't you tell spawn031 (in response to his question in the "A Regular Ride Along") that waffles have more surface area than pancakes if the volumes are equal? This can be proved simply. Any point on a pancake is more likely to have a shorter length from it to the spot across from it than a waffle, so it has more sphericity. If it has more sphericity, then it is more efficient at enclosing a large volume. Since a sphere is the shape that contains the most volume with the least surface area, an object with less sphericity will have a greater surface area than an object of equal volume with more sphericity. Ergo, a waffle has more surface area than a pancake of the same volume.
