I'm looking for feedback on possible ideas for a Destiny tattoo. Let me begin by saying that if your opinion is that I shouldn't get a Destiny tattoo, or that Destiny is not a good enough game to warrant getting a tattoo inspired by it, you don't really need to comment. I don't care. It's my body, and I will get whatever I want tattooed on it. I know you'll probably post anyway, and that's your right, because this is 'murica. But, still. It's not necessary.
As for the ideas I've considered, I have three, sort of:
One is to get the geometric figure from the loading screen. The one that's like a hexagon, with the circles inside it, and the criss-crossing lines? I really like that sort of clean, geometric shape. It's a subtle nod to the game, but even if you didn't know the game, you could look at that tattoo and appreciate it shape and form. I would get this probably on my upper, inside forearm, near the bend in my elbow.
The second would be the symbol for the Warlock class. Again, it's a clean, geometric shape, and I really appreciate that, and it represents my favorite class in the game, and their kind of philosophy that you can be a scholar, and also be a badass. There is strength and power in knowledge, and I appreciate that philosophy. I might get this in the same place as the other one I had suggested, or I might get it smaller on my wrist (because then it can be easily hidden by a watch or something if needed. I already have one wrist tattoo (on the left wrist), so this would go on the right.
The third idea, sort of, really relates to some text from the game. There are two things I've seen written in promotional material for the game that I really like "Be brave," and "Eyes up, Guardian." I like both of these sentiments. I have struggled with an anxiety disorder for most of my life, and I have often let my uncontrollable fears dissuade me from doing things I really wanted to do. The reminder to be brave is something that's important to me, and I think that reminder is valuable enough to have tattooed on me permanently. As for the second message, "Eyes up" is sort of self-explanatory. Keep your eyes up. Look around you. Be aware of what's going on. See the world for what it is. These sentiments are important to me for a couple of reasons, first and foremost being that it's easy for me to get distracted from the things that matter. But, more than that, I think it's important to actively experience the world as a participant, and to me, the reminder to keep my eyes open is an important one.
So what do you think? Which idea sounds best? Or which combination of ideas? Text? Image and text? Just imagine? Should I get an anthropomorphized version of Dinklebot like one of those old-school pinup girls riding on an anchor or a rocket or something?
Edit: Jesus--blam!-, I am not asking if I should get a tattoo. I am telling you that I am getting one and asking for specific feedback on the ideas I'm considering.
Edit: No, this is not my first tattoo. I have three others that I'm very happy with.
Edit: No, I will probably not regret having a tattoo "when I get older." I'm 30 years old, I have a BA and I'm about a year away from my MFA, and I have a stable professional job. If I'm not old enough at this point to judge the relative merits of having a tattoo, I never will be.
Edit: No, I am not worried that other people will think it's lame. I make it a point not to keep judgmental twats in my life.

1 ReplyEdited by fuzzyguts: 2/9/2015 7:20:01 PMI think some of the warlock bonds would look super cool tattooed on their proper position around your bicep. The Eris one in particular is sweet. Or, if you want to go big, you could have the traveler on your chest with the Eyes Up slogan underneath it. edit: it's weird that people who spend 1000's of hours on video games would criticize someone who found meaning in something and have a small piece of art made to remind them of it. If it looks cool to you and you like it, why not?

I don't think there's a y thing wrong with getting a video game related tattoo. After playing Infamous: Second Son, and it being my first experience with the series, I really liked the karma concept and the symbols for each. Being a tough time in my life I grew a liking to the second level of good karma, implying I have good intentions but sometimes I make bad choices, or however you want to interpret it. Some may say this was a bad choice, but I'll always remember that part of my life and how I got through it, so my advice is, if you want the tattoo, get the damn tattoo!!

I always liked "Post Proelia Praemia" which is on the ground in the tower and is Latin for "After the battle comes the rewards". I also saw a tattoo someone got of the sun breakers gloves & ghost that looked amazing- http://scontent-a.cdninstagram.com/hphotos-xpf1/t51.2885-15/10731641_468468806629288_2025758185_a.jpg

I recommend looking at concept art, I'm not really a tattoo guy. But I think you might get more inspiration from other people's art from this game as it looks way cooler in my opinion and easier to translate to a tattoo. I always like the line "Destiny awaits" maybe use the grimoire there's probably good quotes in there or give you ideas for an image.

1 ReplyI actually have the space magic diagrams tattooed. Did them on my thigh one day when I was bored at work.

Feedback: don't get a tattoo involving a computer game

Definitely get a Xur tattoo. This way you can always be reminded of how much of a disappointment life is

2 RepliesHow old are you? My brother got a tattoo of a cartoon devil masturbating into a little puddle with the caption "horny devil" under it when he was 18. Hilarious then i bet. Hes 41 now with a bunch of kids. Not so funny for him now when he'd like to take his top off . A destiny tat would be equally silly

1 ReplyTattoos are cool. Video game tattoos never end well.
-
But if you do that, there will be more story behind the tattoo than the actual game!
-
i hope you are not that dumb... .. srsly..

Get a tattoo with meaning but somewhere within that tattoo but the destiny logo in it
