Why are Heavy Ammo Synthesis' such a big deal?

I almost never buy them, I only get them from loot chests, the Gunsmith and Eris, I have never bought them from Xur. I can agree that they are obviously very useful but I hardly use them, I just get through the level with my skill and trusty Primary and Special Weapons and when Heavy Ammo drops, all is well. I really don't see what the big deal is. Edit 1: I have done both raids and I do agree that Synthesis' are useful but enemies still drop heavy ammo. Edit 2: Wow so many butthurt responses about how I have "never done a raid" and all that shit, only a couple good responses so far... Edit 3: Geez, I didn't think I would have to edit this 3 times but I guess I do to say this: Who freaking cares how many times I've raided? Maybe I don't like the raids, maybe I can't ever find a good fireteam, maybe I just don't have the time. Just please stop giving me crap about this. Edit 4: So I guess I chose the wrong words for my title so I'm going to restate it: "Why are people bitching so much about Xur not selling Heavy Ammo Synthesis?"

    • Burned through 65 heavy ammo packs when I 2 manned Crota on normal mode before hard raid came out. Sure as hell couldn't have done it without heavy ammo. Can't stand when people join Crota raid, " I can't do sword or distract boomers. Also I have no heavy ammo..." Then what good are you? Go stand in the corner and play with yourself while the big boys pick up your slack. I'd take 5 kids with machine guns and heavy ammo over 5 kids with gallys and dust in the cartridge any day.

    • My issue is this. Bungie created a game with a bug that is constantly draining a valuable resource from their players inventories and doesn't seem to care one bit. Sure they're working on a fix, kudos to them. But what are they doing in the meantime....diddly squat. They could let Xur sell heavy ammo every week until they've fixed the bug. But no, -blam!- the players. They could reduce the price of Heavy Ammo from the gunsmith. But no, -blam!- the players. They could increase the Heavy Ammo droprate. But no, -blam!- the players. Heavy's aren't cheap and glimmer is a fairly scarce resource (especially with the cap) and the devs seem not to care in the least that we are hemorrhaging them both because of a their bug.

    • That's the point, you don't raid that much so you don't need heavy synth, but people that raid a lot need it

    • Here here! If you want it so bad spend your Glimmer. It has a cap, coins do not. If you are so good then you must be capped out on Glimmer, so why not spend it and get your synth. Instead of crying for weeks about the RNG of Xur. You are just wasting the Glimmer you are earning when you hit the cap. Empty your pockets and use those consumables that aren't doing anything but collecting dust.

    • Look at my grimoire>activities>raids>VOG/crotas end. That's why xur selling them is important. You wouldn't notice much need for synth with only a few completions of each, so I understand your point. But there's people that play the raid a lot more often than you.

If you don't play as much PvE (Raids in particular) then you wouldn't see the need for Heavy Ammo/Syntheses, and strictly speaking there is no need for them at all, it's just that they're extremely useful and can help take any enemy anywhere down a lot faster than you could without them. I use them constantly just because I can, and the result is that things die faster. Some people say they don't matter and call people scrubs for using heavy syntheses, but they're full of shit, you don't have to use them but they are undeniably useful and there isn't any person in the world who wouldn't kill more enemies faster by using syntheses (which is what they're there for). And the fact is that Xur is the only remotely economical way to buy Heavy Synths (Black Wax Idols and Glimmer both take too long to accumulate compared to Strange Coins), and with the limited vault/inventory space that we have even if you have enough coins to buy 500 Synths at once you'd likely have no where to put them. The problem is that he's been so long without selling them that people's savings of Heavy Synths are dwindling (myself included), and I would have bought more last time if I had somewhere to put them but I bought as many as I could, and now I'm running out. If we could have more vault space I wouldn't care about such a long drought, but as it is this is uncool and it's overdue that Xur sell them.

    • Crota's end HM glitches causing wipe. Wipe causing loss of heavy. Crota's end requires rockets to reliably get him to kneel (yes, you can get him to kneel with small arms fire and specials... no, it is not reliable... note glitch where he doesn't take a knee when he's supposed to). So killing Crota on HM requires somewhat of an overkill to make sure he kneels and you don't wipe (see first part, about loss of heavy). Granted, enemies DO drop heavy, but not enough (unless you use the IB glitch) . Plus, doing it right with the jumping bean ass sword bearer... you probably need to rocket him too. So, I rocket sword bearer... I rocket Crota (that's 3 rockets now). crota kneels, gets hit, stands up. I rocket crota (2 more... that's 5). Crota moves right, moves center. Rocket sword bearer, rocket crota (that's 5 more... so far, I'm at 10). Kneels, gets hit, stands up... 2 more rockets at crota (that's 12) go to the Ogre room... oh yeah, they probably need to be rocketed too. There's 2 more rockets, plus 2 ogres, so 4 more rocket, we're at 16. Now, repeat sword bearer / crota hits... it's about 20 rockets. Now, that's with a perfect run and no wiping. Sure, you can small arms fire the sword bearer, but he jumps... he jumps a lot. So, if the timing isn't right (ie: you take too long to kill sword bearer, etc), you might as well wipe (and lose heavy) because of enrage timer.

Personally I have quite a few weapons and armor to upgrade and it uses quite a bit of glimmer. The reason I really dislike farming glimmer is because it takes me away from what I want to do. The hour I spend farming glimmer for ammo could have been spent playing ROC strikes of raiding with friends. I felt the same way when I use to run around in circles farming materials. I feel I shouldn't have to farm glimmer when there are so many useless items in my inventory that do nothing but keep adding up. I'd love to be able to sell some for glimmer which would give me more time with my friends and doing what I like to do. Edit: I feel like a child that has to do his chores before he goes out to play with his friends.

        • Allow me to do some math for you (being informative not insulting) You can have up to 25,000 glimmer at a time and it take around 3-5 hours to grind that much depending on the farm you use It takes 15-30 minutes to beat the weekly and get 9 strange coins 25,000 glimmer = around 20-25 heavy synths 9 strange coins = 45 heavy synths I could do the weekly on all 3 of my characters and get 135 heavy synths before your even done with glimmer farming for 20-25 Note: I'm not defending poeple complaining about Xur and heavy synths, it's just really clear why they're complaining at all

        • Crota mostly, plus the game steals your rockets whenever you do anything. Gjallarhorn especially, all my friends who have it just burn through synthesis! Mostly cos its such fun to use I'm sure :)

        • Anyone can get through any part of the game using skill and their trustee primary and special weapons, so don't think players think of heavy weapons as a crutch because it isn't. Ammo rarely drops when compared with common and special so when players need a heavy ammo for bosses thats when they pop a synth. The reason why this mess is such a big deal is because heavy ammo is expensive and xur hasn't been selling them recently, so players who saved up all those strange coins from weeks of heroics, nightfalls and blue engrams and public events, have nothing significant to spend them on. I've kinda not bothered with doing heroics because xur isn't selling anything of value. Granted, I'm a Titan and I can equipped these gauntlets that makes heavy ammo drop more frequently but thats only my class in certain situations. People are just frusturated because Xur hasn't been selling anything interesting while players continue to stock up on strange coins.

According to your stats on Destiny Tracker, you almost never raid. That's why you don't see why they're important. You don't need heavy ammo in any other parts of the game. People aren't being butthurt pointing out this fact. It is just the truth.

        • The reason why Bungie won't let u purchase heavy, as they want players to grind for glimmers.(By all means players active in the game). Imagine all players just purchase heavy, there will be much less ppl doing bounties or daily within time. It's a stupid way to keep ppl playing, but it definitely works.
