Since that inspirational Always commercial aired during Sunday’s Super Bowl, #LikeAGirl has been trending. But today we get to see the real-life embodiment of that sentiment.
Meet Sarah Hudek, a senior at George Ranch High School outside Houston who will make history today when she officially accepts a baseball scholarship to play at Bossier Parish Community College in Louisiana. The daughter of former MLB pitcher John Hudek, the 5-foot-10 lefty throws around 82 mph, or, per her future coach Aaron Vorachek in an interview with USA Today, “as good, or better, than most boys around here.”
Hudek, who will become the first woman to play on the school’s baseball team and one of the first women ever to play at the college level, was named the USA Baseball Sportswoman of the Year in December for her dominance in the in the 2014 WBSC Women’s Baseball World Cup. Hudek has been playing with her current high school teammates since their Little League days.
This is interesting. I'd like to see an update in several months after she's been working with the pitching coach.

2 RepliesIf there's no girl's team to play in, then yes, don't deny a girl an opportunity. But if there is a girl's team, then it's kind of implying that men are better...
-
Can happen college level. Pro? Not sure. However, I feel as if the percentage of females that can actually play with some of the top males will be extremely low. The genders are obviously different in build, and sports such as football, where the average size of the male athlete would vastly beat out most every female, would not be able to produce many(if any) actually good, top-level, competitive females. But in something like baseball? Not a far fetch

I played football in middle school with boys and got begged by the football coaches in my high school to keep playing but I focused on soccer. Anything is possible

11 RepliesEdited by Legend To None: 2/5/2015 10:56:55 PMNo and that new Nickelodeon show is just terrible. If people can't even play Halo without claiming Women have a small hot box, then it isn't gunna work in sports.
Only the idiots claimed elites and Women were harder to get kills off of.
I don't see why low contact games aren't already co-ed.

Let them. I'm sure the teams will appreciate the easier wins.

I'll answer the question with a question... should a male athlete be able to compete on a college softball team?
-
Edited by Chasm Of Bones: 2/6/2015 7:12:47 PMIf they have the physical ability to do so then Sure why not? Though this raises an interesting philosophical point. If women are allowed to play men's sports, should the same not also be true for men playing women's sports, such as softball? If they are barred from doing so, as I believe is currently the ncaa rule, not positive, how does that balance from a female equality standpoint? If a man is denied the opportunity, and is physically cable of competing at or above the requisite level, does that not imply that it is because there is an inherent belief that he is too physically superior for true competition to exist? Would a situation developed in which all sports would become dominated by men, effectively eliminating women's sports? If, in return for allowing women into male sports, women's sports became open to male participants, would this in the long run be beneficial? Just thoughts. Not trying to argue gender superiority in any way.

I think it's cool!

No girls don't have rights

1 ReplyIs sex a college sport?
-
They should be held to the same standards. If a girl is good enough as her fellow male peers, then go for it. However if a better male player comes along he should not be denied due to his sex. It shouldn't matter the sex, only the skill.

2 RepliesDepends on the sport. Baseball is perfect because there's no physical contact and woman have been playing softball and baseball forever. If we start talking about Football(not that stupid Girl Scout crap) or Rugby then that girls gotta have some muscle mass.
-
Yes. However, she must perform at the level or better of the other members of the team. In the article, if a male pitcher who throws better comes along, he shouldn't be denied a spot on the team. If he gets replaced by an even better female pitcher, that is right. Basically- the best man- or woman- should get the spot.

Can boys play sports with girls?
