KD is the ONLY thing that matters in Destiny PVP

I'm not sure why everyone is in such denial with this concept. I keep reading people responding in pvp related posts with " U cod newbz, KD iz fur luserz!" or "KD doeznt meen anythang! The only thing that matterz is WINNING!". So, the only thing that matters is winning, but kd doesn't? I would completely agree with this if it wasn't for one small thing.... ALL OF DESTINY PVP GAME MODES ARE F$CKING TDM. (except for salvage and rumble) Control is TDM with a fake "objective". Clash is actually TDM. Skirmish is TDM with 3v3. How do you win in TDM you may ask? By going positive. You can't "win" in tdm if you went negative. "But! This one time (at band camp), I went like 0.7 and we still won the game! SO HA!". Well your teammates must be -blam!-ing superman because they must have gone mega positive to carry your ass across the finish line. If you aren't going positive in TDM, you're hurting your team. It's plain and simple. "But I play really aggressive and play the objective! And I capture zones!! SO HA!" It doesn't matter. You can win a game of control and not capture a single zone. Control isn't an objective game type. It isn't domination. You don't get points for holding zones exclusively. You get points for killing, and you give away points for dying. IT'S TDM. There is no objective in control. You either go negative or go positive. I've never seen a team win game of control, clash, skirmish or rumble where the entire team went negative. It doesn't happen. Does KD matter in objective game types. NO! I could give two flying f*cks about KD if I was playing salvage. All I care about is holding that relic (to be fair, usually the teams with the better kd end up winning because they kept killing the opposing team), but still, A KD STATISTIC DOESN'T MATTER IN OBJECTIVE GAME TYPES. But guess what, it matters everywhere else in Destiny pvp. Am I saying any of this matters in the real world! NO. Because it's just a -blam!-ing video game. But people really need to start understanding how destiny pvp works, and stop using the logic that "im being aggressive" or "I'm capturing zones!". Because none of that matters if you're getting killed on the way there (and not killing other people also**). "BUT! People with good KD's just sit in corners and camp!". Sure, there are probably a number of people that camp in one corner of the map and end up going 4-1 at the end of the game. But the amount of people that do that consistently is small enough to make it insignificant, and even so, they were still more helpful in a tdm game mode compared to the moron running into B zone countless times and going 8-15 at the end of the match. Now, there are people out there that might say, " meh, kd doesn't matter to me, its just a game". And thats totally cool. But I like winning. So it matters to me. You can't say winning is important to you, and call every who cares about KD "cod newbz" (in non-objective games modes). But the point is, stop lying to yourself when you say KD doesn't matter in Destiny. Because it's literally the only statistic that represents how well you do. It's honestly astounding Bungie shipped such a skeleton bare bones multiplayer. Where's capture the flag? Where's ANY other game mode that isn't TDM. Where's private lobbies!? It's sad really. Edit: Wow 100 replies. A lot of people have commented along the lines of, "Fun is all that matters". And yes fun is all fine and dandy. But I have fun winning. I'm not sure how many people go into a multiplayer with the intention of losing. If you like losing that's cool, but just because you like losing doesn't take away from the fact that TDM requires SOMEONE on the team to go positive Edit 2: Holy crap 300 comments and trending. Never thought a pvp related post would get this type of attention. Some things; I think people are missing the points I make about control. Yes capping points is helpful, and yes teams can win with many people going negative while only some go positive or even, while holding one zone (or two, although I don't see how a team is holding more than one zone if the entire team is going negative), but the point I'm arguing is that control is still TDM. The objective of control is to get kills, not to cap the zones. If capping zones was the objective, then it would just be domination, which I would prefer. Then kd wouldn't matter. You can't win a game of control if the entire team is sub 1.0. I've already posed the bet to many people to show me a screen shot of this said scenario. Second: KD to assists is also a good representation of how well you do in TDM. Kudos to those who replied with this info. Third: I never said you have to go 3.0 to be helpful. TDM only asks for you to go positive My final EDIT: The biggest argument I have heard in the 700+ comments now, is people giving me these specific scenarios of how a team COULD MAYBE POSSIBLY SOME DAY IN THE TWILIGHT ZONE win a game of control if they entire team is going negative. It usually starts out with them saying "It's simple math you idiot" Then they go on to list off how many points you get if you kill someone while holding all three zones and how many off those kills you need while still going negative. My one and only rebuttal is HOW THE FLYING -blam!- IS A TEAM GOING TO HOLD THREE (OR EVEN TWO) ZONES IF THEY ARE ALL GOING NEGATIVE. Does that seem possible to you? No... No it doesn't. Lastly, some people seem think like I give a single -blam!- about their overall KD, or that this post was referring to a person's overall KD. I don't, and it doesn't. This post is simply explaining how your kd IN ONE MATCH of TDM (or -blam!-ing control because it the same damn thing) is the largest contributor to you winning the match. Thank you to everyone who commented. I have replied to 99.9% of the comments, and will no longer actively try and do so. cheers

    • Games in general, K/D matter more to me then wins/lose. I play more team based matches so I could kick ass but still losebso win/lode isn't more controlled. K/D to me is more personal. Don't care how someone else is doing, but only myself. I think people say kd doesn't matter because of how cheap the game can be. Before, shotguns were cheap kills and now fusion rifles are. Plus there's heavies and supers for easy kills, granted that supers can only be used a lot if you're good.

      • Preach it brother. I think k/d shows how someone can provide to the table. It can also provide some assurance that the player is able to hold their own. Having to play in teams that have players with a k/d lower than 1 gets annoying after some time.

              • K/D acts as a prediction line on a scatter plot. Scatter plots can have integers. Some can have more than one. But that's not important. K/D isn't used specifically to measure how good a player is, it's used to see what's expected from them, and those are two very different things.

                    • For real competitive players it does matter. Now Destiny doesn't have a leaderboard system so that's why K/D isn't much of importance. I'm not great at PvP but sometimes I like a challenge and the other day I used No Land Beyond and they were beating the shit out of me...lol. I went negative. My K/D isn't great but nonetheless it probably dropped just because I wanted to try something new and fun. So I mean when you have a game like destiny without real leaderboards and or clan setups for match competition and so on...K/D is really just a shadow. But still there are people that play real competitive and want to have the most kills and always go positive and get a high K/D in the end. To me Destiny is not about K/D is about having fun. There are far superior multiplayer video games better than Destiny that are completely based on showing off who is the boss and who is the best player and that K/D really matters.

                      • Don't disregard the flags in control, they are a points modifier. I've only ever played maybe 3 games where we held less than 2 flags and won. You are right, however, because the team who goes positive is the team that gets the flags in the first place.

                          • I've had many random teams that nearly everyone went over 1.5 and we lost to teams that had people who capped all the points in control... These capture points multiply your points, so I wouldn't say it's a fake objective..

                            • Although k/d is usually a good indicator of how well someone is doing, it far from shows the whole story. I mainly play PvP for bounties, or for iron banner. I usually play control, and am nearly always in the top 2 scorers of my team. I never focus on kd though, its always on controlling at least 2 bases. Simple bit of maths, each base held in control gives a 100 point bonus per kill, so if you hold 2 bases to oppositions 1, you are getting 300 points per kill to their 200. This means in theory the entire team could get kd of .67 and still win. Also, you get 25 points per person for neutralising a base, and 75 for capturing, meaning in theory, a team could do nothing other than run in a group of 6, taking base after base, never killing anyone, and still win. This would of course require not dying, and the opposition having less than 6 people captured the bases back. I play for fun, but unfortunately destiny PvP is so laggy that I end up focussing on getting my bounties done and moving on, unless I'm grinding for iron banner trophies.

                              • Nothing really matters in PvP as it's not competitive. I could go 0-15 and still get the best weapons in the game. Apart from boasting about dick sizes, PvP offers nothing.

You do amazing with your monkey charge and ground pound wow. You need to work on heavy ammo whoring though. Can't miss out on those tracking rockets that release tracking clusters

                                • TLDR; However, in reply to OP Title, this is largely the case, but assists do matter. In the scoring: 1 kill is + 100 points 1 death is - 100 points 1 assist is + 50 points. This means 2 assists is worth 1 kill. However, Control makes a difference as well. Owning two points over their one, could make a 1.0 on both teams become a 1.5 vs a 1.0. But assists do matter. Always try to at least get those.

                                  • You prove a point , its your opinion . People who don't care about KD usually suck and I hate carrying people on a team in control . They're excuse is like lag , inactivity , play for fun or just a plain scrub with hawkmoon and is level32. No matter what level or armor you have or weapons. KD/WL ratio will matter in any FPS game. Everyone looks at it diffrently . I too have my own opinion why KD matters usually the level or score matter on destiny tracker if your good or not . But thanks for sharing ! Need more people in crucible to to carry on there own. Everytime I play crucible its like my whole team is handicapped with a diaper on and i doubt that they enjoy dying. Ruins other peoples experience . Some people need to step there game up. Or just stick to strike missions / story what most people do for fun .

And really you had to write a whole story about how people you should get good cause you said so?? Guess what? If everybody is good then someone has to die. Invite me and let's play a couple games because I guarantee your k/d is better than mine from how you act and let's see where we end up on the scoreboard.
