I'm not sure why everyone is in such denial with this concept. I keep reading people responding in pvp related posts with " U cod newbz, KD iz fur luserz!" or "KD doeznt meen anythang! The only thing that matterz is WINNING!".
So, the only thing that matters is winning, but kd doesn't? I would completely agree with this if it wasn't for one small thing.... ALL OF DESTINY PVP GAME MODES ARE F$CKING TDM. (except for salvage and rumble) Control is TDM with a fake "objective". Clash is actually TDM. Skirmish is TDM with 3v3. How do you win in TDM you may ask? By going positive. You can't "win" in tdm if you went negative. "But! This one time (at band camp), I went like 0.7 and we still won the game! SO HA!". Well your teammates must be -blam!-ing superman because they must have gone mega positive to carry your ass across the finish line. If you aren't going positive in TDM, you're hurting your team. It's plain and simple. "But I play really aggressive and play the objective! And I capture zones!! SO HA!" It doesn't matter. You can win a game of control and not capture a single zone. Control isn't an objective game type. It isn't domination. You don't get points for holding zones exclusively. You get points for killing, and you give away points for dying. IT'S TDM. There is no objective in control. You either go negative or go positive. I've never seen a team win game of control, clash, skirmish or rumble where the entire team went negative. It doesn't happen.
Does KD matter in objective game types. NO! I could give two flying f*cks about KD if I was playing salvage. All I care about is holding that relic (to be fair, usually the teams with the better kd end up winning because they kept killing the opposing team), but still, A KD STATISTIC DOESN'T MATTER IN OBJECTIVE GAME TYPES. But guess what, it matters everywhere else in Destiny pvp.
Am I saying any of this matters in the real world! NO. Because it's just a -blam!-ing video game. But people really need to start understanding how destiny pvp works, and stop using the logic that "im being aggressive" or "I'm capturing zones!". Because none of that matters if you're getting killed on the way there (and not killing other people also**). "BUT! People with good KD's just sit in corners and camp!". Sure, there are probably a number of people that camp in one corner of the map and end up going 4-1 at the end of the game. But the amount of people that do that consistently is small enough to make it insignificant, and even so, they were still more helpful in a tdm game mode compared to the moron running into B zone countless times and going 8-15 at the end of the match.
Now, there are people out there that might say, " meh, kd doesn't matter to me, its just a game". And thats totally cool. But I like winning. So it matters to me. You can't say winning is important to you, and call every who cares about KD "cod newbz" (in non-objective games modes).
But the point is, stop lying to yourself when you say KD doesn't matter in Destiny. Because it's literally the only statistic that represents how well you do.
It's honestly astounding Bungie shipped such a skeleton bare bones multiplayer. Where's capture the flag? Where's ANY other game mode that isn't TDM. Where's private lobbies!? It's sad really.
Edit: Wow 100 replies.
A lot of people have commented along the lines of, "Fun is all that matters". And yes fun is all fine and dandy. But I have fun winning. I'm not sure how many people go into a multiplayer with the intention of losing. If you like losing that's cool, but just because you like losing doesn't take away from the fact that TDM requires SOMEONE on the team to go positive
Edit 2: Holy crap 300 comments and trending. Never thought a pvp related post would get this type of attention.
Some things; I think people are missing the points I make about control. Yes capping points is helpful, and yes teams can win with many people going negative while only some go positive or even, while holding one zone (or two, although I don't see how a team is holding more than one zone if the entire team is going negative), but the point I'm arguing is that control is still TDM. The objective of control is to get kills, not to cap the zones. If capping zones was the objective, then it would just be domination, which I would prefer. Then kd wouldn't matter. You can't win a game of control if the entire team is sub 1.0. I've already posed the bet to many people to show me a screen shot of this said scenario.
Second: KD to assists is also a good representation of how well you do in TDM. Kudos to those who replied with this info.
Third: I never said you have to go 3.0 to be helpful. TDM only asks for you to go positive
My final EDIT: The biggest argument I have heard in the 700+ comments now, is people giving me these specific scenarios of how a team COULD MAYBE POSSIBLY SOME DAY IN THE TWILIGHT ZONE win a game of control if they entire team is going negative. It usually starts out with them saying "It's simple math you idiot" Then they go on to list off how many points you get if you kill someone while holding all three zones and how many off those kills you need while still going negative. My one and only rebuttal is HOW THE FLYING -blam!- IS A TEAM GOING TO HOLD THREE (OR EVEN TWO) ZONES IF THEY ARE ALL GOING NEGATIVE. Does that seem possible to you? No... No it doesn't.
Lastly, some people seem think like I give a single -blam!- about their overall KD, or that this post was referring to a person's overall KD. I don't, and it doesn't. This post is simply explaining how your kd IN ONE MATCH of TDM (or -blam!-ing control because it the same damn thing) is the largest contributor to you winning the match.
Thank you to everyone who commented. I have replied to 99.9% of the comments, and will no longer actively try and do so. cheers

2 RepliesI hate the stigma that follows COD now with cod noobs this and that. God the first two call of duties on computer were awesome. Three if you include United offensive. That was back when most people played halo and I remember thinking "gee I wish I had more friends at school that played CoD" Then I got my wish and they turned it into something ugly where KD means nothing in that game

Then I must be good then.

3 RepliesNo. Having fun is. And I have a positive kd

1 ReplyEdited by XMalakhX: 2/11/2015 7:57:09 PMWell it's true... Even the control game mode is based off kills. It's not like domination where you just hold a zone to get points. So yeah, K/D is kind of a big thing in destiny's pvp whether some people choose to admit it or not.

2 RepliesThis is why Destiny PvP is so terrible. Shallow is how I would describe it.

2 RepliesKd is what gets wins scrubs

I think SPM is but I dont think destiny tracks that

I didn't read the whole thing but from what I read I agree with you. I did however win a game of IB once where everyone went negative.

1 ReplyI only care about completing my bounties on PVP

If you want to win in control, k/d is good and all but score per minute trumps it. It nice that you 10-0 but it's better to have more kills like 25-20. You lessen the amount of teammates that can go negative and you're helping by not letting your teammates get double teamed. It's also very beneficial to the team to get the better spawn point. If they have the good spawn point go to their spawn point and get kills while you're in the spawn point and then let one of your spawned teammates capture it. This is also beneficial because it doesn't alert the other team that you're taking their spawn point until one of your teammates is taking control of the zone nearby and at that point the enemy will be outnumbered.

3 RepliesYou're an idiot if you think KDM matters. That's not true, because it's a point system. If I'm going 6,000 points in a single match of control - I'm helping my team. Regardless of KDM is. Different things give different points. I usually see stat whores camping in the back, instead of helping and fighting. If you aren't killing, you're wasting time. Which means you're wasting points. Destiny PvP is full of one hit wonders. Now that I got a hunter I can see why Golden Gun is awesome(for PvP).

1 ReplyEdited by TeslaDoc: 2/8/2015 8:16:23 PMI think they should also track assists in some way. K/D, A/D and (K+A)/D should be listed. Because points are what wins are determined by, a stat tracking this would be a good indication of how you contributed to the win (or loss). Points obtained/D, for example.

In team games, my own personal K/D means little in a sea of incompetence. This is why Rumble is my favourite mode.

8 Repliesthan there are those of us like myself... who do so horribly our first several games and now cant recover from that pit...

1 ReplyScore per minute dude.
-
1 ReplyScore per minute and KD are both relatively important to look at. Score per minute is more important that KD, but one can assume someone with a 0.6 KD will not do well, someone with a 1.93 like myself will be average, and someone with a 2.2+ will do exceptionally well. Depends on the gametype as well

3 Replieswinning doesnt matter in destiny pvp as the rewards are the same anyway.

1 ReplyScore would be the best stat.

This game's Pvp is set to reward pacing style of gameplay. Shit is boring,I like to run around causing mayhem instead. :D

Your entire post was how you felt that k/d was all that mattered. Denying that is not marketing it's politics.

1 ReplyToo bad destiny's pvp doesn't matter. Your argument is invalid
