So I have 3 people on my friends list that used a lagswitch to "cheese" Crota a few days ago, this morning they (all three fireteam members) attempted to login and were greeted with friendly messages explaining they were banned. Keep in mind there was no real explanation the only thing that made them believe this is what got them banned was multiple references to the terms and services of xbox live and Bungie, and the fact that all three were banned. One of them then called Microsoft attempting to reverse the ban, they would not tell him anything at all but instead referred him to some Terms of Service page that read:
"There are no options to dispute or overturn account restrictions or bans. Permanent account bans are only implemented with rigorous checking to ensure that the innocent are not punished alongside the guilty. There will be no responses to any communication from this process."
In short, I wanted to pass this along because I was invited to participate and politely declined because I didn't want any part of it. I told them that what they were doing was most definitely NOT cheese and it probably could get them banned. Now 2 of the most active players on my roster will no longer be playing (at least not on those accounts) and all so they could avoid joining randoms to get it done. Just a fair warning to anyone willing to cheat to accomplish simple tasks, don't lagswitch or you may be banned.
EDIT: the guys were only temporarily banned, I assume they've moved on from crota and now cheat on trials I dunno I removed them from my friends list.
Edit: This thread was created in January when the hard mode crotas end was released, no one has trouble with crota these days and no one cheats on PVE stuff. stop necro bumping please

what was the gamertags?

Yes people are getting banned on Xbox live for using a lag switch to kill crota. There are multiple ways for bungie to know that you used a lag switch. Probably the easiest, is the simple fact that there is only 1 enemy killed (crota), and the fact that crota dies roughly 30 seconds from the the time the person touched the crystal. To the person that says he works in the IT field. You are an idiot sir. There is no possible way you work in any computer field or you would know that bungie can tell if a person used a lag switch. This is just a warning to people. Please go cheese him. No body really cares, and I'm sure the OP doesn't care if anyone believes him. But if you get banned for using something outside of the game/console boundaries then do not cry about it. Because you have been warned.

2 RepliesMy Buddie and I have been playing crucible lately and every match is so laggy we cannot stand it. We've been accused of lag switching... I don't understand at all

Edited by Racebum: 5/31/2015 11:37:38 PMchessing crota in game or even pulling the plug never got anyone banned. lag switching isn't cheesing it's network manipulation and has always been a big no no 1 of 2 things. 1. you're lying or your "friends" are and a lag switch was used in pvp 2. bungie is banning ALL lag switch use period as they should be just seems unlikely they would be hunting for network manipulation in pve

4 RepliesCheesing Crota after the new dlc which would make it easier to kill since new light level cap . Lol :D
-
3 RepliesThat's fantastic news. When do they start policing the crucible?
-
Bumping to keep post alive so everyone knows that op is a fagwitch user.
-
good job now punish pvp cheaters
-
Alright let's get this straight. For anyone looking to kill crota with a lag switch should know what they're getting into therefore it is upon them. OP thank you for posting this to help these kids realize that what they are doing isn't a cheese, and can get their accounts permanently banned. GG

PVE Who cares. In PVP is where they need to address it! PVE doesn't effect me.

Edited by NeckPUNCHattack: 2/10/2015 4:33:16 PMWith all the misinformation going around about this topic (in an attempt to deter people from cheesing in Destiny), I'd say a video of when your friends try to sign into destiny (starting from the main screen all the way to choosing a guardian) would help you out with your post and all the negative comments you're receiving..

Probably a nodded console. Serves em right

13 RepliesAs someone who understand technology, what you are saying is almost impossible....

6 RepliesBTW.... I'm not bashing you here - I simply think that if you provide proof of the bans for everyone here to see, you'll have a lot of people change their opinions and take back the bashing they're doing. If you ignore this or just continue to say you could care less about what negative stuff people have to say, I think that kinda looks bad on you and that you're possibly trolling just to get this reaction. A clip can be made and uploaded with ease these days, so getting one of the 3 people to make a small clip shouldn't be an issue. Just saying.... if you really wanna prove to people that you aren't trolling & you're genuinely looking out for anyone thinking about trying this, video proof will win people over & it'll shut up anyone who's trash-talking. If you went this far to help your fellow guardians out, I think you can go a lil bit further (plus it'll get a lot of sorrys from people & it'll stop all the bashing since most people don't respond well to fear tactics & ban scares).

3 RepliesEdited by RandyMarsh: 2/9/2015 6:16:54 PMEPIC BS, lag is lag...to your own console it cannot be proven one way or another. They were with someone who had a jtag or homebrew installed. or they were DDOSing bungies server IP...which isnt required to do the glitch.

155 RepliesEdited by Justicar Thorn: 2/5/2015 1:30:39 PMRemember when there was game genie and game shark and pro action replay and you could play the -blam!-ing video games you -blam!-ing paid for any -blam!-ing way you -blam!-ing wanted? Not supporting what they did, but ffs, when did the gamer stop being "allowed" to play their purchased product however they wanted?
-
everyone who is calling him a "liar" who gives a -blam!- if hes tellin the truth, hes just looking out for his fellow guardians. you are all ignorant assholes who gives a fcuk if he's lying hes trying to prevent people from getting banned whether they cheat or not you fcuking dicks leave him alone.
-
Well now you know that bungie actually cares about their game.
-
Good.
-
Well deserved. Good call in not participating.
-
7 RepliesYea right this didn't happen. You won't get banned they have absolutely no way in telling if it was legit lag or not. People in crucible with high ping in the red the whole game but coming out on top and they are still playing away like the rest of us. Nothing will happen to you, just another person upset at somebody doing something easier then they can
-
3 RepliesYeah unfortunately lagswitching falls under 3rd party cheating, no matter how mundane the method can be. I've done it in other games and knew the risks, I've never been caught, but I'm heavily invested in destiny atm and wouldn't dare risk infringements against the TOS. Tbh, the perma ban should only go to the host of the switcher as the involvement of the other players in the team could be questionable.
-
1 ReplyWhy hasn't bungie been banned for there crap servers. Constantly dropping connection and blaming the end user.
-
Haha that's what u get for using a lag switch & I am glad it happened
