Subject: Cartana and In Amber Clad: Did I miss something? **Spoilers**
Can anyone enlighten me? MC left Cortana on High Charity to go after Truth. She stays behind in case she has to blow the reactor within In Amber Clad (in a worst case scenario, and Tarturus succeeds in setting off Delta Halo), as she didn't want to risk a remote detonation. He leaves, she stays and pouts, we move on in the game. As I understand it, she would do this when its obvious the Index has been reintroduced into the core, which would lead to the firing of Delta Halo (05). However, a few levels later, that pr!ck Tarturus forced Miranda Keyes to insert the index back into the core and you - as the Arbiter - jump in and take the Brute Chief out and all of his minions. This allows Miranda to snatch the Index back out, just moments (the cut scenes would have you believe) before installation 05 blew its wad.
So... when the heck was Cortana gonna do her part? Unless the In Amber Clad's reactor core is fundamentally different than the Pillar of Autumn in the first Halo game, it takes at least 10 minutes for the core to go critical once initiated. Had she started this process prior to Miranda grabbing back the Index? If so, how did Cortana keep the In Amber Clad's reactor from blowing its top? Clearly, In Amber Clad never went critical, as she and Gravemind are BSing together on High Charity in the very last scene (after the credits).

maybe she did start the sequence, and the UNSC ships have a failsafe to halt a reactor reaching criticality. and for the record, when a nuclear reactor goes critical, it doesn't mean it's out of control, it means it's operating in it's normal power range. if power does increase unchecked, it's called super-critical, and they don't explode either, they'll just melt real good.

or perhaps she was aware that Keyes and Johnson were disarming the installation and decided instead to see if they could stop it instead of destroy herself and remember a 5 second cutscene could translate into about 10 minutes i mean do we even know how long it takes a halo to fire it could very well take 10 to 15 minutes so maybe cortana isint rampant or going crazy or any other rumors you hear, maybe she just wanted to give Keyes and Johnson a chance to stop installation 05 from firing

im confused here now... so if cortana was in high charity, that means so was gravemind right? so how would she know what is happening exactly on the Halo other than the activation... i must be getting the order of things wrong here... did cortana leave MC before or after MC met gravemind? ugh... Micahh: Thanks for demonstrating to all of us what an ignorant -blam!- you are. So your "idea" is that the whole point of inserting the index is to put the other Halo's on standby? What grade are you in? And if the answer is anything but "1st grade" I'll know you're a liar and a twit. Please reread my post. And don't let the big words intimidate you. The only reason the Halo's went on standby was because the Index was removed unexpectedly. Otherwise, Halo 05 would have "blown its wad" and caused the other installations to go with it. (Note: for a definition of "blown its wad" please see your mom, as I hear she has much knowledge of the subject). Shall we try again? Any thoughts?

It's amazing how so many people can see and hear the same thing and all of them come to differant conclusions. Cortana recognoses that the structure at the center of the cirty is a Forerunner ship at the beginning of the level. She later chimes in that "we don't have time for this. Truth is approaching the Forerunner ship) later on she says "I'll do what i can to slow the launch sequence... theres somthing inside the ship, it's fighting back. For a Covenant Construct it's unusually formidable" Notice she says "inside the ship" meaning inside the Forerunner ship, and the fact that she considers a Covenant construct "formidable" when in the books Covenant AI's no where near as good as human AI technology and serve as minor annoyances to Cortana implies that it's somthing other than a Covenant AI. maybe its that there is a covenant AI but it just fought her for control of high charites computer systems and so forth also perhaps she was talking to johnson or something like that but also is it possible that high charity has sensors that could detect the energy levels in halo and so she was just about to blow it up when it stopped also she knows exactly when to time the explosion as she knows all about the halo rings due to her uplinking into the control room in halo 1,also shes a superAI if you had read the books you would know this,so she would be able to to calculate the timing,and the reactors took so long in halo due to the timer she set so they could get out then it was halted then the mc used a less effective method of making the engines reactors go critical then a computer inacted one as then it would be instantanous almost because then she could just use the systems to make it go critical and not need a chain of explosions to reach them.

No. Cortana/In Amber Clad were both on High Charity at the time, no Delta Halo. This means that if she was to detonate the fusion reactors, there would need to be a small amount of time for the debris of High Charity to impact Delta Halo and destroy it. This means she would have needed to blow the reactors just about as soon as the Index was united with the core.

hey you guys ever think that cortona was plannig on blowing it up but wanted to make absolutly sure that halo was going to fire? she could have senced the count down and put the engines on standby or somthing.

The talk about the "presense" (whether it was an AI or not) was talked abotu during the level High Charity. This is before you get on the Forerunner ship.

ok, A) Halo 05 didn't "blow its wad" it was sending a message to the other halos to go into standby mode (pay attention to cutscenes jackass) and B) that presence is a covenant AI system (read novels)

Another theoy, Cortana mentions something about a "presense" on High Charity that is fighting her. It is very possible that this "presense" stalled her processing enough so that she *couldn't* blow up High Charity when she needed to. Once the Halos were put on standby mode, there was no longer any need to blow up High Charity and kill Keyes/Johnson, so she didn't.

This has been brought up alot before actualy mostly people talking about Cortana and weather or not shes rampant.
