are angry males in Destiny sexist??
It seems no matter what I post about , whether Crota, matchmaking or a sarcastic reply to a comment, that there is always some angry, violent jerk that calls me names and/or threatens me on forums.
Typical name I am I called is bitch. I don't understand why many people on here have to go out of their way to say hateful things. It seems rooted in anger or sexism ??
I don't care about name calling and stupid banter. That's to be expected on Internet. But clearly some people on here think responding to comments with death threats and hateful remarks is okay. Why?
Edit:: changed title back to original title because clearly there are sexist gamers out there.
However:
I don't think calling a woman a bitch makes you sexist.
I don't care if I am called one. However, this doesn't mean that sexism doesn't exist. I just acknowledge bitch is a common word used to put someone down, regardless of gender. My point is directed at the hatefulness of certain people on here.
I am just flabbergasted when anyone replies to a normal comment on forum with obvious hate and anger.
Is this truly what we now consider normal and just part of forums?
Edit: After reading responses it's clear some guys are sexist on here -Yes. Bitch is used for everyone these days, but the below response prove sexism is still rampant!!

1. Apparently I'm not desensitized enough to being called a bitch. Forgive me if I don't understand why expressing an opinion on Internet is an invitation to having my life threatened or being called hostile names.
2. I was asking if term bitch is sexist or just another word. It feels sexist to me but many people assert it is just a common name. I wasn't calling anyone sexist. It was a question posed to community so I can better gauge what is meant by it
3. For the record. I made my gamertag long ago when I played resident evil and gears with my husband. We weren't online with others then and I never anticipated that having woman in my name would be seen as some justification to be called a bitch or a troll. Changing it now would be letting the jerks win so I won't.
Edited : to specify this occurs on forums. Not talking about during gameplay!

When my wife started I made her name feminine, mostly because I play with her almost any time she is on. So guys will get all GIRLLLL ERMAHGERD GURL "hey bitch you ready to get that D?" then proceed into match and destroy then click my mic on and ask them if they liked swallowing for me. She dishes the shit right back most times though so I just get to LOL at the 15 yr Olds who get verbally slaughtered. I believe you've commented on her stuff before. And yes her momma is proud ;)

Being that they are so far detached from any real consequences for any of their bullying or moronic comments makes them feel safe in doing so as frequently as possible or they are just passing on whatever abuse was imposed on them be it in game or in real life. Joe shotgun gets salty after getting out gunned and out played in crucible and takes to the forums to complain about whatever weapon or tactic was used to dismantle him/her and while there ranting begins to visit other threads to tell players to "get good" even when it's not an appropriate response that's actually relevant to the discussion. Honestly just ignore them eventually they go away. And as always May RNGesus roll ever in your favor... [i]Deus[/i]

Sometimes people are scared of things they know nothing about. You are on a forum of gamers, I am sure you will run across one or two that have not discovered women yet (or just get shut down enough that they resent them). There are sexist males, sexist females, probably even sexist trannies. I wouldn't let it get under your skin. Those angry gamers call everyone newbs and bitches cause they think they are better for one reason or another.

I am terribly sorry for the immature boys who have mistreated fellow gamers, men and women. As a man myself I find it very important to be a gentleman to everyone because that is how I would wish to be treated. If a group of people a giving you trouble either rip them a new one or leave. I wouldn't say this type of behaviour is restricted to just the Destiny forums. That's the internet for you. People react pretty harshly to anything they don't agree with. I think its mostly because the internet removes the face to face social walls that keep people from saying these things in real life. Commenting on the internet doesn't feel as real, therefore people respond with an unfiltered version of what they were thinking. I do my best to let it roll off my back but sometimes I get caught up in it too. The internet makes for an interesting social experiment, that's for sure.

So if someone is angry and is a male that makes them a sexist? What if they are a woman and they are angry, what does that make them? Most game forums have a diverse population, age and race and religion are hidden, this allows some people to lash out at others without fear of reprisal. Assumptions are made once a post is made, the reader might suggest that the original poster is a kid or child if they post something negative about the game. In reality it could be a 30+ year old who might be tired of how some of the game mechanics work or how a creative lead might be changing the direction of the game. On the internet it is all lies until pics are provided, don't let some anonymous entity bring you down. If they can not debate their side of an argument and must use personal attacks to force their opinion on others, then they are sadly a keyboard warrior and muting is the only way to go with those kinds of people.

There are a lot of trolls around but I think most people are good. I've been helped out when I first started raiding and nightfalls and a lot of the forum users are decent. I think the problem is female gamers are still seen as a rarity which means some stupid guys go a bit crazy.

10 RepliesI'm a 40 year old male and I'm disgusted at comments I find on this forum. Its almost as if people have lost all sense of courtesy and decency. People replying with things like: "I hope you get -=Insert disease/Ailment=-" "This post gave me -=Insert disease/Ailment=-" "You're a fgt/bitch/gay" And worse. I look through these forums on a daily basis to try find small nuggets of information better tactics and so on, but end up wasting my time muting morons. I'm not sure if its the youth of today just not learning respect for your fellow humans or just bravery hiding behind the anonymity of the internet. Whatever it is Bungie ninjas do not do enough to keep this forum civil.
