There are a lot of sniper rifles that are way better thAn icebreaker.
Is regenerating ammo really that worth it?
:edit: by a lot i mean like 4 - thanks for the conversation by the way you all helped me through a longg day at work.

A full IB gives me 9 bullets once I switch over to any sniper. The perks will always be one of the best as well. This weeks nightfall doesn't limit ammo either so some of you can easily pick up green ammo from the ground. The BH perk is great. But the weakness is showcased this week. You can stun lock Archon Priest but once you take damage you have to run away.

LDR5001 from vanguard is a solid replacement for ice breaker

3 RepliesIB is and always will remain king. Black hammer for now is great. But will be long gone when HOW begins. Ldr 5001 void and arc are very good in combination with IB. Long live the mighty IB.

5 RepliesThe combustion perk is what makes it extra special. Not having to rely on crit hits makes it extremely useful against groups of mobs at medium to close ranges.

1 ReplyWhat I do with icebreaker is. 1: wait for ammo to reach full on icebreaker 2:switch to another weapon (patience and time usually) 3:Use that weapon until I run out of ammo. 4:Switch back to icebreaker. 5:repeat from No.1

For pvp then yes. But for pve..nothing beats icebreaker.

I ALMOST forgot... I keep a rare Hieracon-LR5 (or Amina-E7) Sniper Rifle on each of my characters. Each has the "Shoot & Loot" perk... NOT useful in PvP, BUT VERY USEFUL in PvE. Combine one of these with an Icebreaker and you're NEVER short on ammo during a Daily, Weekly, or Nightfall... comes in real handy when the juggler modifier is on.

For awhile I didnt even use mine. The one from the VOG is great. Long bow, & final boss are ok too.

It's good for PvE, but not as good as a lot of snipes in Crucible. Stability is it's main weakness. It also doesn't have Third Eye, Unflinching, Final Round or Armor Piercing. That being said, it's one of the best weapons you can use when there is a Weekly with Solar Burn.

Icebreaker is a utility. It's the free refill button for Special ammo.

When it comes to solid damage, and actually having you move around (during ammo regen) it's good. With the advent of Black Hammer, it's not ideal for bosses anymore, but that's assuming skill with crits. P&T doesn't have much going for it. For a general pve player, Icebreaker still wins for like 95% of situations. Final Round body shots in PVP are their own thing, Hammering bosses I touched on, and invisibility is so niche that it's not a big worry.

1 ReplyI just think the icebreaker is super versatile sniper. Black Hammer is awesome but it's most useful against stationary bosses unless you are god's gift to sniping. Patience and Time is awesome for cloaking ability and arc burn. But I use the icebreaker the most because when you are fighting Atheon it does good damage and will always have ammo when I need it. In the raids I feel the security of always having ammo makes it my main go to in those situations. It's just when you start listing where the guns are most useful you see that I do not think any sniper is better than icebreaker but if I am taking down a devil walker there is nothing better than Black Hammer. So I think this is a futile argument because some guns are just better in different situations. I would recommend never getting to tied to any one gun because you will often find better guns for different encounters.

2 RepliesEdited by Azhidal: 2/1/2015 10:20:46 PMIB gains its popularity not necissarily from its regenerating ammo but from the reliability it gives, the ability to consistently deal solid damage from a range and know itll always be their is a great confidence boost for un-experienced snipers. Having a sniper with ammo at all times is something new to gaming and provides equal opportunities for all players. This gun for an experienced sniper isnt as good simply because hes landing tons of shots very often and securing kills, for the experienced sniper being able to lay down consistent rapid fire is better which is why in pvp you see the better snipers using things like praediths revenge, BH, efrideets spear, final boss, etc...

2 RepliesI think I've seen mention of every Sniper rifle in the game except P&T, which is actually decent. I'm not much for sniping, but I keep an Icebreaker and a LDR 5001 available. The P&T is waiting for its turn in the XP dump after going to 2.0
