Why do americans treat their troops as if they are some kind of super heros? they do a job, they get paid.
I have yet to read a reply here that ~I would consider reasonable, it all seems like blind patriotism. Why don't I see threads thanking nurses and doctors, teachers etc people that actually better the lives of others, thank them instead of thanking people whose sole purpose is to kill and destroy.

Just because someone fought for your freedom doesn't mean they aren't a shitty person still. Is a man who fought in Vietnam a hero? What if he beats his 8 year old son every day when he comes home from school? Is he still the picture of bravery? Yes, we have some heroes in the military. But can we lump everyone who's in the military together as a hero? Edit: because today i learned you can't spell R.a.pe on a Bungie forum without it getting auto edited. Wtf.

I agree, you can still be a POS and serve in the armed services just like any other job, including police. Generally one wouldn't place a blanket statement of negativity on the individuals as a whole for the actions of a statistically small percent.

You should have a gun in your house to protect you from your neighbors who have weapons that they bought to protect them from their other neighbors who bought weapons for protection. And it goes on. I do know a lot about airspace, airlines, Air Force, etc. Is it possible to fly a plane off course and into a building? In 2001, most definitely. No one was going to shoot a passenger plane out of the sky because they veered off course. If that plane was headed to the White House, it might have been brought down by the Air Force since there is a huge prohibited airspace around it.
