Why do americans treat their troops as if they are some kind of super heros? they do a job, they get paid. I have yet to read a reply here that ~I would consider reasonable, it all seems like blind patriotism. Why don't I see threads thanking nurses and doctors, teachers etc people that actually better the lives of others, thank them instead of thanking people whose sole purpose is to kill and destroy.

  • You have no logic or facts. You're an idiotic child who has no idea of how the world operates. Continue in your little liberal world of delusions.

  • You like destiny eh? Imagine a world without freedom to do what you want what you enjoy , not good right? That's what the troops are protecting. So stop being incredible disrespectful. Why don't you go put your life at risk and then you can ridicule them.

I thought the troops were perpetuating an oligarchy? imagine a world without freedom Slowly but surely our world's governments are stepping away freedoms in the name of 'freedom' and 'national security' Moot point.

  • Thank you for this comment, living in Texas, where so many are blinded by ignorance, where "Chris Kyle Day" is an actual possibility, it's nice to see when someone else actually gets it. Wish there were more like you.

And to your edit, we thank them all. But the military, in our culture, gets more publicity and thanks because of what they can lose for our well being. Although I do have to admit that our culture has been ignoring other prominent professions as of lately. But that aside, I appreciate your original question and what I think you meant behind it, but this specific forum post is not the place to ask it.

  • I thank them because they risk their LIFE so that we may continue to have freedom, like playing destiny all night. Maybe not SUPER-heros, just heros. Its not just a job, its a life. If u think they are not heros, then u should go oversees and do some fighting, get shot at, watch ur friends get killed while u are spared, If by some chance u make it back, then ur sorry ass might just be a hero too (its puple ak). There are people in this world that will kill u with no mercy and for the fun of it. We need people to extinguish that, heros, to extinguish that. A petty mind like urs cannot understand what is neccessary and what is reality.

  • 1) A lot of them (not all) sign up because their options are limited due to bad decisions they've made earlier in life. 2) If you actually think that your freedom is at stake then you are a moron. 3) Other people risk their lives and well being too but don't get nearly as much praise and thanks as the military. 4) Not everyone in the military risks their lives.

  • Yes, yes a million times yes. People think that people who join the army do it to protect the country they love. Wrong!! They do it because they have no other option, they have shit grades or are in debt. So they join the army, a job that requires no qualifications at all. Also not to mention no ones freedom is at stake and they are more likely to turn their guns onto you than to protect you with it. Soldiers in my eyes are hired goons.

  • You sir are a blind ignorant retard. I joined because I wanted to doing something that mattered. I make more money than you in my civilian life, I have a gorgeous loving girlfriend, and the best most supportive friends. The fact of the matter is that there are people who are selfless and want to give back or have respect for those that do...and then there are people like you who have no respect and should be thrown on the front lines to see how quickly you start crying for your mom

A lot (not all) of people who join get a degree while in or when they get out. Lackluster job market or desire not to go to college right after high school, like myself, is a driving force. "Join the military or go to jail" isn't really a thing anymore. Now my school is paid for and I graduate next semester. 2) Pearl harbor. Twin towers. If there was no standing military, yes your freedom would be at risk. 3) No, but they get paid a lot more. Plus they are honored right alongside the military. I really don't know where you got this. 4) 80% of military jobs are non combat mos's, true. But that doesn't eliminate risk. Convoys, or what type of unit you're deployed with ect plays a factor in how at risk you are. Don't be a tool. You don't know shit about it, so keep your ignorant assumptions to yourself.

  • #2 they were allowed to happen/were orchestrated to create the climate and argument for war Pearl harbour was a necessary step for America to unleash its dominance as a superpower 9-11 gave precedence for this perpetual conflict we've had for the past decade, hundreds of thousands dead (mostly middle eastern civilians)

  • Actually, we veterans are not treated as some kind of superheroes. As a matter of fact, after our service is done we are discarded, denied medical treatment or even compensation for disabilities that occurred during our service. Only lately have some came out to support veterans, but as a whole in this great country of the U.S., most people don't really care about the military. Also, I have respect for those other fields such as police and fire fighters and EMT drivers teachers and doctors, but they serve their community, not the country. And, they are not called upon to leave their families for months at a time to die in a foreign country! Know the difference!

  • Agreed. Reading these replies are starting to get me really pissed. They have no idea how it is and need to keep their opinions to themselves.
