What about exotic weapon treading? If done right, it could be great.
General idea:
- You can only trade exotic for exotic
- Once you have traded your gun once, you can never get it back. This prevents "loaning" weapons and then trading it back. A simple line of code that knows who it's owner was and can't be returned.
- This means that your exotic gun could eventually be traded multiple times and without you knowing, a stranger with whom you want to trade will want to give it to you. It will be funny to see the message that this was originally your exotic gun. "Omg this was mine".
- The situation before would likely not happen, since people trade the exotics that they won't want/need back.
- Getting a 4th Suros or Gjallarhorn will actually be nice, since it has value in trading. Dismanteling those baby's is just sad.
- People that have played a massive amount of time will be able to finally get that few exotics they just can't seem to obtain. It still won't be easy, since strangers will want a good exotic in return.
- New players that just started won't be able to instantly get exotic weapons from friends because they actually need an exotic weapon to trade.
The only downside I can see is more people having Suros, Ghorn and other rare exotics. Makes it a little less special.
Please let me know if I'm missing something in this concept of trading. It could be that I missed something that would ruin the game lol
Edit:
+ Would also add another social element to the game. You can actually do something nice in the tower.
- People with one Ghorn will get spammed with messages asking if they have multiple Ghorns and want to trade
