Why do people hate The Arbiter?

I was just wondering if I'm the only halo 3 player who likes The Arbiter? I was watching a review a while ago just before halo 3's release and somebody refered to him as "the pepperami sausage alien" Does anybody find him funny? As for example with me...on campaign once he died then sprung up with no weapon and then stormed into an army of flood and slapped them all to death and screamed the most amazing war cries I have ever heard!!!! Any opinions?

 • The arbiter is cool, but they sorta made him a minor character in Halo 3....

 • Halo 2 let me down when just when I thought I was going to get a chance at slaughtering some marines its more aliens and then flood... I thought there was going to be an intense moment when Arby's hatred for Chief would come to a conclusion them meeting on last charity and the ultimate battle ending in SMS to 1900-46677 to decide who wins.. obviously Chief... no wait that sucks, guess thats why I don't work at Bungie XD

 • Write it from the Halo CE perspective when Arby is the Supreme Commander of Particular Justice!!!! He is the President of Awesomesauce (an actual product on Sangelios, for real).

 •
Posted by: SketchFactor Personally I think Arby is a great addition to the Halo Universe and I'd love to see a future novel deal with him further.
Yeah that would be great... The only thing I don't like about him in Halo 3 is that he seems too human. He was a BEAST in Halo 2, clever, but in a beasty way...

 •
I wish elites had arbiter armor.
arbiter doesnt have any armor. you notice, every elite is bigger than him? he was stripped of his armor before he decided to join the humans in the war.. Arbiter is beast though man. I couldnt find any in the stores so i went on ebay to look for some Halo 3 figures (i like to collect action figures, and i figure i need to take a break from wrestling figures) and i bought Arby :) Has an energy sword and carbine to beast it up.

 •
Posted by: SketchFactor It's not too surprising that people in Bungie.net forums have a fondness for good ole Arby. I'd say, on average, hardercore fans dig him and enjoyed the Halo 2 levels focused on him and his backstory. Meanwhile I'd say that the broader population of gamers who just wanted to kick nonstop ass as Master Chief didn't really "get it" or particularly care for the diversion. Personally I think Arby is a great addition to the Halo Universe and I'd love to see a future novel deal with him further.
I could go for a game thats more focused on him, or some of the past arbiters as well as the rest of the elites. something to do with the elites whole past, their homeworld...pretty much anything like that would be sweet. The chief is badass, but so are all of the elites.

 •
Posted by: onebadshark because everone loves the master chief
I don't. John was a bland and boring, 2d cardboard cutout of a character. Bungie tries to get away with this by claiming that he's a blank slate so that you can be him, but if that was there goal, they utterly failed by trying to give him character, leaving us stuck with the horrible mix of blank slate/real character.
Personally I think Arby is a great addition to the Halo Universe and I'd love to see a future novel deal with him further.
That would be great. [Edited on 07.03.2008 9:20 AM PDT]

 • I'm actually making a non-canon, unofficial novel that tells a bit of a story between the Arbiter and Imperial Admiral Xytan 'Jar Watinree. Here it is, I'm currently typing the next chapter as we speak/type/other

 • I liked him in Halo 2, where he and his story were a great addition to the game. Unfortunately Bungie decided to relegate him to the role of useless sidekick in Halo 3, meaning that there were absolutely no interesting characters in the game. Bungie failed at making John a blank character, but at the same time didn't do anything to make him interesting. Luckily we had the arbiter in Halo 2. Bungie fails at character development.

Anyhoo, I find the Arbiter's role in Halo 2 was much more satisfying, seeing as about half the story was specifically devoted to him. IMO, his missions were just as enjoyable, if not more, than MC's. This, plus the phenomenal insights into Covenant politics and culture made him an integral part of the Halo 2 experience. However, in Halo 3, his role was seriously diminished. He seems more like a extra than a participant in the story.

 •
Posted by: DB5414 Everyone's jealous because he's so much better than chief: His race is a match for Spartans without being genetically modified, and in Halo 2 he can go invisible at will, while Master Chief is able to turn on a flashlight.
Made me lol. :-) I didn't think people hated him.

 •
Posted by: LiquidNazgul42 They're just jealous because Spartans are genetic freaks of nature and Elites are the mightiest warrior race in the galaxy. :P
LOL. Yeah, Spartans are the poster boys of cosmetic surgery with all of these "enhancements."

 • I hated him because I was just about to complete Cortana on Legendary and I accidentally betrayed a couple of times. It was an honest mistake. He kept lunging at the flood and my grenades blew him up. He took out his Carbine and shot me once in the head. I died, and my Xbox froze...guess I'll get to restart the mission again.
