MUST READ: Remove Phantom Gift on Word of Crota
I know a lot of you dearly love your new Word of Crota hand cannon you rightfully earned by killing Crota on Hard, but hear me out. THIS WEAPON IS BROKEN. The Word's unique perk, Phantom Gift (3 rapid head shots return 1 round to mag), is not only a mediocre perk at best but it is also broken by both Hive Disruptor (Increased damage to Majors) and the Explosive a Rounds perk. This a bug that Bungie saw coming due to the White Nail bug and made no effort to fix it preemptively.
I think the best solution would be to scrap the Phantom gift perk completely rather than rework the other 2 perks that break it.
Bump, like, or reply this post if you want your hard-earned handcannon to be the monster it should be.
TL;DR
Word of Crota is broken, let's make Bungie get rid of the broken perk on it that is bad even when it does work.

-[b]precision kills with this weapon activate a mini shrieker death blast that tracks nearby enemies. [/b]
it would function similar to firefly, but would do less damage and have increased range in addition to a brief stagger animation when it connects on nearby enemies.

2 RepliesI love the shrieker blast idea, but something like that would have to be an exotic. It kind of breaks the way the game works and would be unique to that one gun, which is how exotics behave.

i signed in just to bump and agree. I would be suprised if they didnt fix it. Very ugly perk im still trying to figure out who came up w the idea in the first place. Im sure phantom gift sounded good written down on paper but its a epic fail

Thing is, you can see gameplay footage from official trailers for The Dark Below that showcase it for like 2 secs...And in that footage, it caused void explosions like a void version of Fatebringer. Fatebringer is still somewhat superior imo. Word of Crota helps a tad more for Hive majors though.

/sign I must admit I think this perk to be nonsensical. One round to the magazine for 3 RAPID crits? So you can turn a 12 rnd clip into a 17, IF you score all crits. WOW

2 Replieslol. explosive rounds glitch even the fatebringer from procing firefly. if you use explosive rounds on fatebringer you will notice that alot of times firefly will not work. don't use explosive rounds...it's a shitty perk anyways, it removed a portion of the damage and does AoE but that portion damage messed with other more useful perks and also why would anyone want damage blown out of the original anyways.

Its true that phantom gift is the worst perk ever.. basically just a stupid version of field scout, but technically it's not broken. I would rather see hive disruptor give a static 10-15% damage increase against hive majors and explosive round's AoE hits count as damage from an outside source so they don't mess with your critical chains/kills before they start removing and replacing perks.

Phantom Gift is a pretty crappy perk for a hand cannon in and of its own right, regardless of whether or not it's broken.

I think it would be cool if a kill with it triggered a Fatebringer like explosion but it didn't do as much damage, instead it was like the Titan void suppressor grenade that prevents enemies from using abilities for a short time. (Or a mini vortex for a few seconds!)

Perks don't play well together. It would make this weapon a lot better. [b]Also, the Phantom perk should give 2 or 3 bullets when precision kills. 1 bullet is just so weak.[/b]

i love your replacement perk idea and would absolutely have it over the existing perk, but in the very probably case that they dont replace the perk i do not think taking out phantom gift is the way to go. They wrote the code to the game so they can make it so that the extra damage delivered by hive disruptor and explosive rounds does not register as a shot. If you remove that perk entirely the word of crota becomes very very situational and has no application outside of fighting hive majors and void burn Night falls. I would love the shrieker blasts perk as it is more like the fatebringer and would make the word of crota applicable outside the raid or other hive missions. The phantom gift does the same thing but obviously and explosion is better than a few extra rounds. basically removing the perk would make the gun useless because it would have no application in the rest of the destiny content out there
