I seemed hit and miss. Sometimes they'd destroy me and other times they'd never know me.

Looks like u have to hit is platform while cloaked. The knights left me alone when that was the case

We're you in this video? Seems the little detail we missed was that the sword bearer shouldn't shoot anything once in the pit to avoid aggroing the Knights.
