Why did Xûr sell Icebreaker?
I haven't seen anyone else post this theory, so I thought I'd add it to try and help some people understand.
I think Xûr sold Destiny at this particular point in time because hard mode for Crota's End is coming out tomorrow. So they released it the weekend before, knowing that Icebreaker is going to be necessary (or make it much more capable for more casual players) in completing the raid.
But what are your thoughts?

You do know this is the second time Xur sold Icebreaker..... People that started playing in September had a chance to buy Icebreaker... Now, people that started playing in December have/had a chance to buy Icebreaker..... Guess what, second Galahorn sale coming soon.....

Same reason he will sell ghorn and suros. To annoy all the people who think they are the only ones entitled to these weapons because it was dropped randomly for them. Xur feeds on their tears.

I bought 3..... And the only time I've used it is in patrol screwing off. I love that black hammer too much.

The only time you need icebreaker is if you're going to cheese the bridge or you are unable to down crota with the first sword. But it's not a mandatory weapon. The raid isn't any easier because of icebreaker. It might go a little faster. I would rather roll the black hand job with gjallahorn then icebreaker and fist of crota combo.

He will sell Ghorn between wolves and comet. There is no content for 6 months if that leaked plan is accurate. So you just have special events. Sell Ghorn half way to comet and people will come back to max it out.

I agree with you. Example: we ran the raid legit twice yesterday, and only died once-twice from over souls because everyone had an icebreaker. Also, the one guy that had ghorn was actually able to use it because everyone else could snipe. Previously it was only him and I that had IBs

In my opinion I believe they've seen a vast drop in players playing Destiny so they had to implement something to get some of the players back. So what will bring players back...not iron banner that's for sure. So they put it on Xur in hope word would get out and get people on. Personally they've succeeded cause I saw quite a few old faces this past weekend that haven't been on for a while..again my opinion..

My thoughts exactly. And if the completion rate isn't good enough, and he sells the rocket launcher that shall not be named....prepare for the destiny universe to collapse upon itself under the rage and tears of "earners."
