So I see a lot of people posting now with renewed hope that Xur will sell Gjallarhorn, and i myself don't believe it will happen. I found mine on Wednesday, and finally upgraded Wolfpack rounds on it today through bounties. Right off the bat, I am astounded at how powerful it is against just about any situation. That being said, if Xur sells it, it will render all boss fights obsolete, since the moment everyone begins it they will try to take him out as quickly as possible. I don't think this is something people understand, but selling Icebreaker is not something that affects the gameplay as much as selling Ghallarhorn. What do you think?
Edit: There must be some confusion about the point I am attempting to make on this thread. Yes, many threads said the same about IB prior to Xur this weekend, but my point is there is no 14 second video on YouTube of a 6 man fireteam taking down Atheon on Hard mode using only IB as there is with Gjallarhorn. If Xur sells the gun, then expect situations like that to appear more frequently, and don't be surprised when you do ROC strikes and your two random match teammates unload Gjallarhorn on the bosses. That lowers the quality of the game, and is the reason I don't think they will sell it. Thank you for the replies, but please, be respectful to one another as you interact.
Edit #2: I would like to address a couple more arguments that have been reoccurring. Yes, I am aware Xur has sold Gjallarhorn before, but I do not consider that to be an implication that it will be sold again. If we follow that logic, then is it fair to assume that Hardlight will never be sold? Selling it the second week the game is out (when the game is still in its infant stage) is not a very convincing argument considering the limited knowledge there was about the gun. Look at the forums and you are bound to find someone who regrets passing up on the Gjallarhorn when it was sold. Just because it has been sold before, I do think that implies that it will be sold again. On the other hand, someone brought up the point that Crota is not defeated through conventional damage, but through the the sword. I agree that the more diversity they have for killing bosses, the more limited the gjallarhorns role becomes. If they can add more unique ways to kill bosses, I can be convinced that they will sell Gjallarhorn. However at this current state, the game is not ready for it to be sold based on those standards. Thanks to everyone for keeping it respectful and kind, I appreciate the interest!
Edit 3: there is one last argument (it's really an accusation) that has reoccurred that I want to address. Yes, I admit on Wednesday this week I had my first Gjallarhorn drop, however that does not mean I don't want anyone else to have one, or that I am an elitist. My grimoire score says I have a whopping 72 kills with my gjallarhorn, that is because I use it only when the scenario calls for it. I do not mind people getting Gjallarhorn, I hope you all get it one way or another. I also think we need to step back and just look at what this game would look like if every single person got it through Xur. If, by some chance it is sold (I sincerely believe it will never be sold) I will not come on these forums whining about it since in the grand scheme it is such a small thing. This is only meant to be my rational reasoning for why I don't think Xur will sell it. In no way am I "paranoid" or and "elitist" of anything of that kind. Thank you again for your responses.
Edit 4: DeeJ just released the news that almost 1,500,000 people bought the IB this last week. That was the second most coveted in the game. I He even said they have added new events for the gun (or at least implied it). I can only speculate how many would buy gjallarhorn, but I expect it to be significantly higher than that. Is that a gamble Bungie would make? This is the icing on the cake for me, I don't think they will sell Gjallarhorn. Xur comes tomorrow, we will see then and every Friday after that. Happy hunting guardians!

1 ReplyTo all of you wanting gjallahorn from xur, and those who have and want to keep it sacred, I have a proposal. So to be clear xur would sell the gjallahorn, but at a cost of 50-75 strange coins. This would make it much harder for people to buy, and since most people blew their strange coins last week, a large portion of the community would be unable to buy it. Since one of the only things you can truly "earn" is strange coins, only the true "earners" would be able to buy it.

46 RepliesEdited by W0LVE5: 1/21/2015 4:49:20 PMI have seen the argument that "if everyone has gally then it will break the game" so many times now that I decided to write this counter argument. (if you read my wall of text, I salute you!). I will start with this question: What makes people think that if it was sold "everyone would buy it"? Sure I concede a LOT of people would buy it especially those who have been playing since day one (like myself) and are still to get lucky with a drop. However that said not everyone has 3 high level characters some people only have one and so whilst coins are easily obtained for some of us it isn't the case for "everyone". As a result not "everyone" will be able to afford it. Just because you have 300 coins it isn't the same for everyone. I have seen several posts this week about people struggling to get enough coins for IB. So for a start if gally was sold, for instance, THIS coming Friday it would be difficult for at least some people to get the coins a second week in a row especially if they already splashed out on IB or multiple IB's this week. Further more, just like when gally was first sold there will be a section of new players (especially after xmas) that still are not aware of the power of it. Not everyone visits the forum (only a very small percentage of the actual player base) and many people play solo and don't interact with others so there will defiantly be a percentage of players who won't purchase it due to lack of awareness. Then on top of that you will have another percentage of people who "just don"t like rocket launchers" who won't buy it. And another section who will think, as some of us did when it was first sold, "why would I use an exotic in the heavy slot?". Even from those that know it is good there will be some that love another exotic so much that they always run with that and will think it is a waste of coins. Then you have to consider the rest of Xur's inventory at the time that gally is sold, some people might have a hard decision (just like some did this week between obsidian mind and IB, there were multiple posts about this on the forum). What if Xur was selling Gally and Heart of the paraxic fire? Some people will only have coins for one or the other again reducing gally sales. Now you could argue that some of these are small percentages but they all add up when you think of all the possible contributing factors. My conclusion? Even if Xur sold gally a second time there is no way that "everyone" would obtain it. Moving on to my second point, even if a large percentage of the player base DID purchase gally what realistically is it going to break? Seriously, STOP and think about it. Think about what gally is actually good for, its good for boss damage right? Ok so where are bosses found in destiny? 1.) Strikes - Ok so if you have a fire team with 3 gallys in it and you can kill the boss fast, so what? So we can run a few more strikes per hour but that's it. Strikes don't drop raid gear and you still have to sink time into getting to the boss. I don't see how this would break the game. 2.) Nightfall - same as above no raid gear and you still have to get to the boss. Ok so maybe you can more efficiently kill yellow mobs but really if you are packing the right set of burn weapons unless it is a solar week I can't see gally making any major difference. I don't see how this would break the game. P.S. Nightfall rewards are not what they were anyway with all the shards and coins. 3.) Weekly - same as the other arguments with the addition that rewards are rarely anything other than coins. Again shaving a few minutes off a weekly is not game breaking. 4.) VoG - Ok so this is the only major difference I can see. VoG runs could be speeded up somewhat if everyone in the team had a gally (as shown in that now famous video that every tom, dick and harry seems to like to reference.) However the majority of VoG gear with the exception of the Mythocast is either obsolete or on its way out. So even if people could rush the raid I don't see how it would be game breaking. All you are doing is saving "some time" here and there with any of the above activities. 5.) Crota Raid - Crota can only be damaged with the sword, ok he can be put in his Kneel state quicker with gally, and that is the only advantage I can see here. There are still multiple cheeses (even after the patch) in the normal raid that can be exploited by one or 2 people that allow more advancement than should be possible either solo or in a small team than if everyone was packing a gally. In comparison those cheeses have helped more people artificially or at least much more quickly achieve the highest rank than selling gally ever will. Finally I would like to say that even if a lot of people brought gally it doesn't mean they will have one on every character or always have it equipped. Sure you would see an increase for a while as always when Xur sells a new toy but people get bored and like to switch things up a bit. I really can't see how selling gally will "break the game". The only possible negative action I can think of coming out of Xur selling gally would be an increase in elitist raid groups discriminating against picking people who don't have it. As they would now expect you to have brought it. I have tried to be precise in my argument but I am sure "someone" will pick holes and twist words as they always do on this forum... *rolleyes* and if you want to do that then go ahead, but I will only be replying to well reasoned counter arguments from people who have actually read my post. Have at it! I am ready to "git good scrub"... *sigh* Peace. Edit: This post has it's own thread now here, if anyone cares to comment / bump / like / dislike or whatever, thanks. http://www.bungie.net/en/Forum/Post/93624769/0/0

You speak of downing Atheon in one teleport by using only Gjallarhorn. Well, I'm here to tell you that it is possible without Gjallarhorn. My group did it with icebreakers and black hammer. My black hammer was critting for 20k per shot. We got to 5 seconds on the relic bubble and made the call to get out. Then someone said "-blam!- it let's burn him!" So I looked and he was about to die. We killed him with 2 seconds left on vengeance buff.
-
If he sold it again it would break the game. Look at how many people/times IB 2.0 was bought.
-
If this horn thingy is as powerful as you say it'd be awesome, strike bosses are crappy ass bullet sponges anyway, Like with terramorphous you could get strong enough to solo him which was really cool it made you feel badass

Edited by The Poop Doctor: 1/23/2015 12:59:18 AMAgain this makes no sense, what about Black Hammer's White Nail passive? Exactly.. why the hell would he have a selected few weapons to sell because the other ones are "overpowered" which in my opinion they're more like overrated. It's an exotic for a reason, because of it's rarity and unique abilities you either acquire it through an RNG drop from Nightfall/Radiant Light boost, or you acquire it through Xur's RNG inventory, either one is RNG and will still give you the same damn weapon. Besides I already see tons of people with it so even if its little "Destiny Boss Domination" plan was logical it'd already be in full effect because tons have it already (like every other person you inspect).

I'm pretty sure the same thing was said about icebreaker the week that was sold. Cool story tho
-
I'm surprised Bungie hasn't nerfed it by now. they nerfed the suros because it was a must at one point. ppl only accepting others not because of skill but because they have a gun should be cause enough. don't get all butt hurt I don't care enough to read or reply to this post. also, you know I'm right. just because it isn't a pvp boss is the only reason it hasn't been. it is still easy mode just like the suros was.

2 RepliesSince i got hawkmoon now, gjallarhorn is the only weapon i need to complete my exotic collection. With it, ill probably max it out and hang up my controller until HoW is released

5 RepliesWho ever doesn't have ghorn are scrubs

Oh... one of these again. These have worked out so well for previous OP's.

2 Replies... he has sold it befor ... he will sell it again .... ps. im tired of telling you children this

10 RepliesSome people want the world to burn

The solution to an overpowered gun is to fix the gun, not to restrict its sales. If Bungie felt that it was making the game too easy for the roughly half of us who already have it (according to a poll on the forums), they would nerf it. Secretly removing it from Xur's inventory would solve nothing as I would still be out there getting a "free ride" while others wait for it to drop. Sooner or later anyone who sticks with it long enough will have one anyway.
-
TL:DR .. here's my reply anyways! RNG.
-
2 RepliesI would like to point out the fact that we already know the 14 possible exotic weapons Xur can sell. If Op would have completed a simple google search, he would have found the "date and time glitch".

Everybody and their mother says selling it will break the game...how? It's used on bosses and whole groups of 32s all with gjallahorn still failed to beat Crota on hard. Ign and other clans all with 32s and gjallahorn still struggled against Crota Please provide some evidence that ghorn will break the game, something other than Atheon takes 20 seconds to kill because with any upgraded weapons he takes 20 seconds to kill; it is effing level 26 and we are 31 or 32 Ghorn won't break the game especially since guys on hard mode Crota are using red death and hunger of Crota anyhow...it will cause a bunch of idiots who think it is necessary for every encounter to finally shut up Are you telling me strike boss fights are a struggle without ghorn? Good lord I hope not. I hope more than anything he does sell it and against HOW boss for some reason or another ghorn is useless
-
1 ReplyMy 6 person fireteam just tried shooting Crota with our Gjallarhorns but didn't kill him. Is this a bug? I thought if all of us brought Gjallarhorns and unloaded max rockets on a boss it auto-killed them.
-
2 RepliesThis is the same shit people said about icebreaker. Then look what happened.
-
"Xûr won't sell Icebreaker." -People before Xûr sold Icebreaker.

1 ReplyEdited by XCrazyAssasinX: 1/22/2015 9:37:36 PMThis guy is using his common sense, its logic that xur won't sell it again. Now crozzy75, let's go to gjallahorn club!
-
11 RepliesI want it to make bosses like omnigul/valus that little bit faster. Those strikes take way too long.
-
Jellyhorn is overrated. Any legendary RL that has cluster bombs is just as powerful. And rocket tracking is counterproductive most of the time. I would much rather have the rocket go where I aim vs tracking some random enemy that happens to get in the path.
-
Yep I'm glad it kicks every bosses ass so bad, less time I have to spend killing the same boss foe the 100th time!
-
10 RepliesHe will sell it. This is a fact.
-
4 RepliesLol ghorn never got taken out just stop being a little brat about it. It will eventually come and all these dumbass posts can stop clogging the forums.
