Anyone Else Think the Ice Breaker is Overrated?
Great gun, don't get me wrong, but not nearly as good as it's made out to be. All it really does is regenerate ammo (which isn't that hard to get), and it hits fairly hard.
Worthy of an exotic slot because of ammo regen, but not to the level of G-Horn or anything. I might be entirely wrong, so tell me what you guys think! I just don't see why so many people are calling nerf.

I keep it on me for ammo in a pinch and really don't like it the kick is stupid big and it's slow I've like shooting just about every other sniper I've gotten in the game I never finished leveling my first one and I had it forever but the ammo regeneration is free from the start so why waste the time leveling it.

It's the best sniper in the game. I use my sniper a lot more than a rocket launcher so I build my whole arsenal around it.

It's only good for cheesing strikes, sitting in spots where the enemies can't kill you and not having to worry about ammo running out

No, its always useful even if not being used.. I was doing nightfall, I ran out of ammo in my P&T so I put on IB and let it regen 6 ammo then swapped back to P&T. It gave me 19 shots... More then enough to demolish Sepiks Prime. In the Abyss of Corta's Raid I always use this.. 1-3 shots can wipe a whole group of thralls, which is roughly 20-30. If it came to having this or jellyhorn.. IB would win hands down. Thankfully I have both so I don't have to pick and choose.

1 ReplyI really like my Icebreaker. The bullet regen aspect is really the big reason I like it so much. It allows me to play sniper like I want to, which means I get to hang back in relative safety and draw attention to myself while my teammates go and wreck other stuff. But the one poster was right; this thing kicks like a mule. During nightfall this week, I switched to my recently-gained Patience and Time. Felt like I was shooting a Halo 2 sniper (no recoil).

Personally, I think the ammo regen is nice. Definitely no longer the best sniper in the game though. Black hammer is better for bosses and since the Crota primaries aren't out I find myself playing with exotic primaries for fun now anyway. With Ghally though there is really no point in IB anyway.

With extra sniper ammo perk on my longbow arc 331 it takes down each wizard within 2-4 hits with a 24 mag and the ogre in 6 hits which means it serves it's purpose without running out of ammo. Now if i have the ghlorn equipped that's 4 wizards and an ogre by itself with a 7 mag The ice breaker is useful but the rate of fire is slow and recoil annoying, it hits the same as most snipers I got equal hits off atheon so for campy gameplay it's great i loved it back last year when the game came out but ever since the murmur was more fun to use, and exotic primaries. I now use it to refill my snipers ammo by 12 each time and ficus on killing with my primary Gamers need to learn to play the game not grind for a single gun Saying that I do wanna play withe the vex

It's pretty useful, but I don't think it should be in the level of Gjallahorn or Suros. The regenerative ammo is unique, and useful for camping bosses and stuff, but the thing kicks like a mule and is slow to dish damage as it regenerates. I prefer other snipers. Much better stability and special ammo isn't that hard to come by.

I was stuck with a 300 IB for a long time and only used it on oracles or to refill my P&T ammo. Having purchased 2 new ones I am trying to level them up ASAP though. I try not to rely on it too much though because I am a badass.

It is amazing lol. Not having to worry in the slightest bit about ammo during boss fights (especially when you're critting Atheon for close to 20K dmg) or anytime you want to sit very far back and pick off everything in a nightfall (without using any synths) is worth it alone. The fact that it has high impact and makes enemies explode for multi kills is just icing on the cake. IB is called a God tier weapon for a reason. P.S. Don't use it in PVP... You would just look ridiculous.

Icebreaker is amazing for PvE. I love this gun. In almost any situation where you're shooting something from medium to long range it's great. Regenerating ammo means you can rely on ice breaker in situations where other guns would run out of ammo. Being a sniper it hits hard, so the damage is always good from it. Plus you can get into, and out of, situations you normally wouldn't be able to due to running out of ammo.

Only really use it for the ammo regen then switch back to my legendary solar sniper. Not good enough to replace my hawkmoon/gjallahorn.

It's overrated in terms of straight gun to gun performance but the ammo regen that you can use to actually give ammo to other guns makes it a weapon I will never have in my vault.
