Why Do People Hate Halo 4?

Legitimate reasons, not just "Wahhh Its bad" Edit: I liked Halo 4, maybe more than most because i read the forerunner trilogy and knew what the hell was going on. Edit 2: Not like the story? Feel like they pulled it out of their butts? There is actually quite a bit of backstory that entails the events leading up to and explaining Halo 4. Edit 3: Any thing i post is my opinion, and i respect yours.

  • The story was really lackluster for me except for the ending. ESPECIALLY the requiem mission. Felt like a game on its own. And the multiplayer was meh. Rather play reach then 4

  • I liked that one map that you played. Yeah. That one out of 8 or whatever that you only played.

  • I just felt like halo 3 was the end and also I hate 343's grunts and elites. Also they came up with a bs reason to have you fighting covenant

    • The issue with Halo 4 is more-so the community. For every 10 people that played Halo 4, three or four of them read Greg Bear's Forerunner Trilogy. Without reading these three books, a lot of Halo 4 seems confusing. That's not necessarily the players fault though. Halo was suppose to be a VIDEO GAME series. Not an entire Media Franchise. The average player doesn't want to read all 12+ books and I don't blame them. I read all the books from Fall of Reach to Broken Circle.. so everything basically and it sucks how far this series has gotten milked and how much of the main story is lost. Am I the only one who feels like a video game franchise should be just for, gee I don't know, video games? Sure, most of the books are great and have great stories but at this point, Halo is a Book Franchise that just so happens to have video games

The story was good, I'll give it that, but the rest falls flat on its face. Hopefully these few points highlight what I'm trying to convey. 1) Lack of Custom options: Halo in General has thrived on its community creations. Three was a big step forward and Reach did things right. Halo 4 just have is less options. 2) Lackluster Forge: I could write volumes on this, so I recommend watching the Halo 4 Forge parody on YouTube. 3) Loadouts: What's a great way to kill any competitive scene? Let's allow players to spawn with different weapons, grenades, armor abilities, and even perks. It strayed too far away from the Halo formula. Combine that with weapon drops and some players are left in bewilderment. What's a good way to kill vehicle combat? Let's allow players to spawn with plasma grenades/pistols. Halo 5 is a step in the right direction though. If your mainly a story guy though, I could totally see you being fine with the game. It just wasn't my cup of tea.

      • Because they aren't True Halo Fans who actually understand 343i's genius. Or so I've heard. The other explanation is that they, like everyone else, have been playing Halo for a long time and had an idea of what the game was to them. And then, when the new game didn't match the idea they had, they were displeased.

      • I liked halo 4. It was the reason I got my Xbox but it was a change from playing with my friends on reach (I played on their consoles). The story was good but then again I've still yet to play all the earlier halos. If there is any reason I'd hate halo 4, it would be the buggy forge maps and ordnance drops.

      • I think I might be one of the minority in that I've never liked the multiplayer for Halo games. I've always loved the story/campaigns though and I enjoyed it enough to be satisfied with my purchase. I played it online for a bit but again couldn't get into like previous titles in the series. You mentioned the books. Worth reading then?

        • I feel the Theater, Forge, and Customs were a Downgrade Spartan Ops was very disappointing Halo 4's story was boring to me, and new characters I didn't care about. Loadouts and Ordnance drops were horrible ideas. and a lot more reasons but I have to find a list for them.

          • The vehicles were terrible and they completely ruined the balance between weapons. Everyone cried about the DMR, my favorite weapon, and everything else got boosted to be better than it. I haven't played much with the halo 4 BR and all of a sudden it was destroying me at any range. It felt like I was being penalized for playing the way I did. My friends and I just went back to reach at that point.

            • I did not dislike it, but the multiplayer was a disappointment in comparison to reach. Reach had better, more open maps and a ranking system that didn't take one day to max out, unlike halo 4. Campaign was not as good as 2 and 3, but still good. As much as I criticize multiplayer, it's fun to do with friends.

The multiplayer got lackluster really quick for me. But I thought that the story was amazing. But I think some missions drag wayyyyy too long like for example the second mission. I think it's called the requiem, felt like a game all on its own. Or I'm just really slow

              • I was fine with it, but something still irks me about the campaign. In every game since CE, the AI enemies and allies you faced felt like characters. Often one-dimensional characters, but characters nonetheless. I loved hearing combat banter, from both enemies and allies. I enjoyed playing in the same team as the elites, grunts, and jackals in Halo 2, and in Halo 3 I had a thing for giving easy-mode marines power weapons so that they'd be able to be used indefinitely. I'd try to find exploits to save normally dying AI friendlies (the warthog in Tsavo Highway and the workers killed by the hunters in The Storm being two notable examples) and do my best to lead a squad or convoy, rather than being a lone wolf. Their dialogue or impressive combat feats would mark individuals that I would go so far as to revert to the last checkpoint to save. Halo 4 had very little in terms of AI "personality". The aliens spoke in strange languages, the marines barely spoke at all unless scripted, if they even showed up. It seemed like the one level where you're fighting through the jungles to the infinity was close, but it wasn't the same. Everything shooting at you or with you was just an ornate piece of cardboard. And even any brief moments of greatness from AI friendlys were too uncommon, as the story itself prevented them from making too many appearances, unfortunately. Here's hoping that, if friendlies make an appearance in Halo 5, that they're just as vocal in combat as the Spartans in the multiplayer beta (or hell, even Spartan Assault). I

                  • I loved halo 4's campaign and can't commend 343 enough for giving chief the characterization he so lacked. The multiplayer was ok. I never thought of it as "Terrible" but it wasn't amazing. I really hope people can get past thier dumb superficial problems with the new halos and appreciate them for the great games they are. Halo 5 is great so far and I hope 343 continues to push in thier own direction with the series.

I heard that they completely changed the forerunner story. I see that by how they made forerunners completes assholes. but seriously the many things from multiplayer is a downgrade compared with reach's
