Stop using "casual" as if its an insult
I just got done looking through a few threads and have to say that this is just annoying.
Whenever someone brings up the topic of wanting a weapon buffed or sometimes nerfed, there are always arguments that ensue and would inevitably end with calling the person who doesnt care a "casual".
Now being called "casual" doesnt bother me. What bothers me is that people try to use that word as if it were an insult. How is it an insult? Its just the way someone plays the game. Just because they dont take a virtual, non-real world problem as seriously as you do, doesnt mean they are "ruining the game". It means that they dont care and know how to adapt to the situation.
In my experience of being on forums and gaming for many many years, I have to say that the only difference between casuals and "hardcore" players is not the amount of time you each have invested into the game, its that the hardcore players bitch more about shit in a VIDEO GAME.
This seriously needs to stop. Both casuals and hardcore players play the same game and why does it matter if one doesnt take an issue as seriously as another about something that doesnt matter in real life?
Just enjoy the damn game.
EDIT: I am really impressed by how many people understand this. Just to put this out there, I am a casual hardcore gamer. I have been gaming for 20 years and I DO care a lot about some franchises and play a lot (every day as a matter of fact) but at the same time, I still play just for fun.
EDIT: I may be a casual in Destiny, but NOT in some games I play. That is why I consider myself a "casual hardcore" player. There ARE some franchises that I care about, but Destiny isnt really one of them. Hence me being casual with this game but hardcore in others.
EDIT: I saw a comment that I thought I would share part of it with my original comment. This is from the user DazTrip and I agree with this statement:

Players are players, and they all deserve respect. The notion of a "master race" always turns my stomach. All I see here on Guardians - irregardless of platform or time invested or Grimoire score. Although, if you have a Guhjallerhorn, you're clearly elite (which I do not). Carry on with your bad selves.

1 ReplyI always took "Being a Casual" as a compliment, meaning I can do everything the Hardcore players do but it as if i'm just casually taking a stroll through it. We are beasts that don't need to try to be legends, we just are.

I always take the word "Casual" as an compliment... i see people with like 300h or more on 1 Guardian and im sitting here, 120h or so on my hunter and about 20h on my titan and im quite far in Light Level compared to the effort i put in this Game. But i'm not mad at those who call me casual because i played WoW way to much @ Vanilla and called those level 60s without raidequip "filthy casuals" and felt good lol

Now iron banner last night was the first time ive started calling noobs casuals. If there was a way to communicate with a random team then yes you could say that you can try to educate them on how to play but no there isnt unless they join the chat channel nor is there a chat box where one can post a message to give instructions on what to do. Iron banner is a serious event and if you are not serious about winning then you should stick to casual control lol whilst iron banner is live of course, you are free to do what you wish and iron banner is open to all but i have the right to be annoyed if you play ib without intending to win just as much as you have the right to be upset if one is not happy with your performance I think ita just passion for the game lol

2 RepliesCasual is not an insult to me. I am casual, I own one gaming console, I play every day for a few hours. That right there is casual. I will call someone not casual if they stream, if they play multiple hours a day and have more hen one console. I also am not really offended by the term "noob". Well for one noon is short for newbie which is a slang for new players. I am not a new player and if your saying skill wise, then I will agree. I am not a super master ultimate guardian, I am a normal player. All players are weak in some areas while they are stronger in others. We all are not perfect and we all are good and bad at different things.

When I see someone try to use it as an insult, I can hear their choked back tears of regret that they have led a lonely and meaningless life, and that gaming is all they have in their virgin lives while their 30 something ass lives in their parents basement...

1 ReplyTotally agree. I am a gamer. We are all gamers. It seems to the younger guardians who want and fuel this division. I feel for them, in my lifetime playing computer games has gone from being a "nerd" uncool thing to being universally accepted. It's madness.
