This is probably being posted on multiple topics to ensure it gets the right one. Recently I got the exotic weapon bounty for Thorn. Seeing that I am once again forced into a gameplay I do not enjoy nor am all that good at, I do it for sake of getting a good gun for my characters to use. Though I find that the crucible part of this bounty is broken. The fact that death in crucible removes 2 points and kills with ONLY void damage earns 5 points and it takes 500 points to finish it. This is broken on so many levels it makes me wonder if Bungie has lost its ability to know how to design and program games.
First of all I'm forced to play a gameplay I do not like nor am all that good at. Bungie has always shown an inability to understand its players since Halo 3. Not everyone likes CoD crappy style of multiplayer. Some do, they enjoy it so much they remain unemployed to play it 24/7. But many do not enjoy it and many of them are really not all that good at it. Thus they have KDRs below 1.0 and for every kill is least 3 deaths. Meaning they never gain any points towards finishing that part of the bounty.
Secondly the fact that even after finally earning points in one match, the next one can go really bad and they can, and very well will, lose ALL progress made. The fact it doesn't set in stone progress made between matches allowing progress to stick makes it so that it becomes impossible for many to finish it. Leaving them to have no choice but to abandon and never attempt the bounty again.
Thirdly it is stated that is must be done via void damage only. The hunters have no void damage ability and titans only have void damage grenades and therefor it's made so only Warlocks have best chance at getting this. Otherwise a player must track down void damage weapons which are primarily special and heavy weapons and not always can get the ammo or a decent weapon to use in the first place. I so far know of just one primary weapon that does void damage and that has to be a random drop from the Vault of Glass. There may be more out there but very difficult to get.
So even just void damage kills let alone 500 points worth with only 5 points per kill is already making this a challenge, but breaking it and making it unable to be completed by allowing deaths to essentially reset any and all progress made is just plainly dumb. More than half of the player base left in Destiny will be unable to obtain this weapon. Even those who are decent at the crucible can lose all progress from a string of bad luck matches. This bounty needs to have at least two things done to fix it, the first being the biggest point of all, removing the points lost due to deaths, and the second being to remove the void damage only. I would suggest that instead of void damage, say it must be done via hand cannons instead or something along those lines. Allow EVERY player to be able to complete this bounty, otherwise why have it or the weapon Thorn in the game in the first place?
And to those who will tell me stop being a baby and play crucible, I do. Despite my dislike and avoidance of it, I will put up with playing it inorder to get the weapon and complete the bounty, but this one is quite impossible to finish for many in its current setup.

I replied to a number of posts on this. After reading this post, however, I lost the will to live.

Oh come on, I'm not even well at the crucible and it just required me 2-3 hoirs to complete, stop whining and try it!

It's not hard... I beat it in 2 hours

Edited by SPITRAT: 1/12/2015 2:04:18 PMWhere to begin. You could have been half way done with the PVP portion of the bounty in the amount of time it took you to post this. But seriously, here is the thing, it is suppose to be a challenge. And honestly if you don't run around like an idiot not using team tactics, i.e. make sure you stay with a group, it isn't that bad. When I got the bounty I just had my void VOG sniper and a machine gun. I did 90% of it with the sniper rifle but I had to adjust my gameplay. I found Control was the ticket for me. The game doesn't owe you anything. Getting Thorn is not critical to you progressing in the game. By your logic we all should be upset that the only way to get the Vex, or Fatebringer, is to complete the VOG on hard and even then it is RNG. At least with this bounty you have a clear set of objectives that will yield the desired result 100% of the time. Just because it does not fit the way you play does not make it wrong. Adapt, and once (if you do) you complete it "should" give you a greater sense of accomplishment. The other side to this is that these bounties are the only thing that actually can make for a rare gun in the game. Rare in the sense that Xur won't sell and it wont drop from a engram. Embrace the challenge and you can't complete then so be it. One less person running around Crucible or IB with a Thorn. Edit: I see you got it on your Titan so why are you bitching about it? To be the voice of the ones who can't get it? I don't understand.

Extremely tough bounty for an extremely tough gun. Luckily I had 3 raid weapons, for all 3 slots, that all did void damage. I despise playing PvP but I'm surprisingly good at it.
-
You don't need to do it. There are other hand cannons. Just delete the missive if it's something you don't enjoy doing. No one's holding a gun to your head. There are a number of others out there that just as fun.

1 ReplyDid it last night on my lock. Pvp part took like 1 1/2 hours. Just use epilogue truth and a void fusion or shotty and play defensive. I did a little back map camping (sorry bout that guys btw) and was done in about 10 games
-
Good argument but this gun is defiantly earned. I would say though that your attitude is why you suck at crucible. Not wanting to get better is not the attitude you should face. Play to your skill level. If you snipe then snipe, if you use a fusion rifle then use that. But above all you should use a machine gun. Atheons epilogue sucks but its better than nothing, especially to finish off kills

Edited by Scavenger23: 1/12/2015 1:47:16 PMThrow it away, obviously thorn isn't for you.
-
A game shouldnt just cater to your needs. Ppl like pvp. Ppl like pve. Bounties have both types of play styles.

Edited by Not a Recov: 1/12/2015 1:46:49 PMStop bitching, they arent gonna baby feed you exotics without you earning them, the only thing that's broken is your logic.

1 ReplySolution - 1. Review bounty options 2. Research steps required for each bounty 3. Choose bounty that fits your play style 4. Quit whining, this is optional no one is forcing you to do it

Edited by x_8-BitZombie_x: 1/12/2015 1:46:02 PMFirst off: You are not being forced to do anything, Thorn is not mandatory for any part of the game; in fact if you don't like Crucible at all then you are probably better off finding a primary that is more suited to PvE than Thorn is anyways since in my opinion it's at it's best in the crucible. Second: I've done this twice with a hunter and once with a Titan; if you find a good void shotgun and play carefully you can do it in 10-20 matches. This may sound like a lot but considering that Bad Juju makes you run 25 strikes plus 10-15 matches to complete it isn't that bad. If you have a Atheon's Ep, plus a void special and heavy and a little skill it can be finished in 5 matches or less. Third: Exotic bounties are supposed to be hard, if they weren't then the weapons they award would not feel any where near as deserved as they do. When you finally get Thorn you can sit back and say that you achieved something in this game and it was worth it. Fourth: If you think the Crucible portion is annoying just wait until you need to kill Xyor the Unwed; in my opinion that's the toughest part of that bounty.

I thought it would be hard too, but ended up getting 30 to 40 points per game once I found a routine that worked. You do have to play more careful. A rocket launcher helps a lot.
-
i agree, i will never be good at crucible, im not fast enough when others have better weapons and better armour.
-
I did it as a hunter and I'm terrible at crucible so if I did it you can don't give up.
-
A tip if you want to continue to do the challenge for this gun. Go into Control and instead of capturing the flags just cap them and run from A to B and C on the outskirts taking out enemies trying to catch them. This is how I did it. Most players want to catch the flags to win but you will capping them. Good luck

I'm not that good in pvp (dont like it very much) and complained too as I saw I need 500 points. But after around 10 games I did it. Some matches are really bad -20 to +30 points, but even I did one match with +120 points (btw I dont have a void primary). If yo dont want to do this bounty, stop complaining and get over it, that you'll never get thorn. Else go get your kills crucible, it isnt that hard.

i just finished this bounty this weekend. after getting this bounty initially in my titan i realized it just want' going to happen. shortly after this decision i got it on my warlock. this allowed me to have void damage on everything. every kill i got was from void so that helped tremendously. it took around 10 matches over a few nights of playing 3 rounds or so each time. it sucked as i try to stay away from PvP due to lag. but i tuffed it out and got thorn Friday night. its awesome. i like it better than the last word. can't wait to get it fully upgraded. in the end i feel it was worth it, but just.
-
First time I got the thorn bounty I abandoned it as I felt an awful lot like you OP... Second time round I used a void fusion and void grenade only and did better than I normally do with my supers and primaries XD Tips don't care about the win and hang around the edges of the objectives in control picking off those taking it, use fellow teammates as bait charge fusion and snapshot having rounded corner :/ The tough bit's the last bit...

3 RepliesExotic bounties should be hard to complete, and exotic weapons should be hard to get. Otherwise what is the point of having different rarity gear? The only criticism I would make on the exotic bounties? The way some people play Destiny is primarily PvE, on their own. Wouldn't hurt to have at least one exotic bounty for those people to complete, that did not have tasks that focus on PvP or non-matchmaking Strikes.
-
I am absolutely horrible at PvP and I was able to finish that part in about a week. Even though I was Voidwalker, I still went in with every void weapon I could find just to ensure that every kill I got counted.
-
1 ReplyIt's a bounty that requires you to go to the crucible with good reason. This hand cannon belonged to a master hunter of the crucible, which ties into the objective of the bounty. This bounty is probably one of the better bounties, imo. It's much more interesting than pocket infinity, which forces me to go kill a stupid gate lord again, and wait for blue fusion rifles. If this is more fun to you than killing some guardians in the crucible, you have some problems....

Edited by drock2k1: 1/12/2015 1:31:06 PMI see plenty of people posting that it is easy. The bounty is not easy, even if you are great at PVP it is time consuming. I thought that the crucible part was time consuming but I still managed to complete it the same evening I received the bounty. To me, the PVE part was the biggest pain. I waited so long for that thing to spawn I thought that I had done something wrong. My suggestion for PVP, do skirmish matches so you have less down time since teammates can revive you. You can also camp dead enemy bodies for when their friends come to revive them. I used a Light Beware void fusion, a void heavy machine gun and yes, Atheons Epilogue from VOG.Most of my kills though came from my secondary. If you are having a rough time in PVP, just camp somewhere and get some cheap kills. I have heard you can also take a full fireteam in to Rumble but have never tried it. You could get your friends to help you out this way.

13 RepliesIt's a bounty, a bounty is a task that requires effort. The effort that is required for thorn is more than justified. I didn't bother to read the whole post nor the tags but I hope one day I'll meet you in the iron banner so I can slap you around a little bit with my justly earned thorn

You have Thorn now, this post should be removed.
