The broken weapon bounty for Thorn

This is probably being posted on multiple topics to ensure it gets the right one. Recently I got the exotic weapon bounty for Thorn. Seeing that I am once again forced into a gameplay I do not enjoy nor am all that good at, I do it for sake of getting a good gun for my characters to use. Though I find that the crucible part of this bounty is broken. The fact that death in crucible removes 2 points and kills with ONLY void damage earns 5 points and it takes 500 points to finish it. This is broken on so many levels it makes me wonder if Bungie has lost its ability to know how to design and program games. First of all I'm forced to play a gameplay I do not like nor am all that good at. Bungie has always shown an inability to understand its players since Halo 3. Not everyone likes CoD crappy style of multiplayer. Some do, they enjoy it so much they remain unemployed to play it 24/7. But many do not enjoy it and many of them are really not all that good at it. Thus they have KDRs below 1.0 and for every kill is least 3 deaths. Meaning they never gain any points towards finishing that part of the bounty. Secondly the fact that even after finally earning points in one match, the next one can go really bad and they can, and very well will, lose ALL progress made. The fact it doesn't set in stone progress made between matches allowing progress to stick makes it so that it becomes impossible for many to finish it. Leaving them to have no choice but to abandon and never attempt the bounty again. Thirdly it is stated that is must be done via void damage only. The hunters have no void damage ability and titans only have void damage grenades and therefor it's made so only Warlocks have best chance at getting this. Otherwise a player must track down void damage weapons which are primarily special and heavy weapons and not always can get the ammo or a decent weapon to use in the first place. I so far know of just one primary weapon that does void damage and that has to be a random drop from the Vault of Glass. There may be more out there but very difficult to get. So even just void damage kills let alone 500 points worth with only 5 points per kill is already making this a challenge, but breaking it and making it unable to be completed by allowing deaths to essentially reset any and all progress made is just plainly dumb. More than half of the player base left in Destiny will be unable to obtain this weapon. Even those who are decent at the crucible can lose all progress from a string of bad luck matches. This bounty needs to have at least two things done to fix it, the first being the biggest point of all, removing the points lost due to deaths, and the second being to remove the void damage only. I would suggest that instead of void damage, say it must be done via hand cannons instead or something along those lines. Allow EVERY player to be able to complete this bounty, otherwise why have it or the weapon Thorn in the game in the first place? And to those who will tell me stop being a baby and play crucible, I do. Despite my dislike and avoidance of it, I will put up with playing it inorder to get the weapon and complete the bounty, but this one is quite impossible to finish for many in its current setup.

  • It is supposed to be hard.... stop complaining about it. Everything isn't easy.... if you can't do the bounty like the millions of others that have, then you don't deserve Thorn. Stop playing like a noob and learn the game.

  • Nah for thorn it needs to be hard to get because it is a seriously powerful gun, especially in pvp

It should be more difficult to get Thorn. Even I, with my mediocre PVP skills, did the bounty twice with a non-void using gunslinger and soloed Xyor both times. It needs to be harder.

  • Bro, it is difficult, but don't give up. The end result is so worth it. I only had a blue fusion rifle and poor skill at Crucible to help me.

Void sniper, shotgun, fusion rifle. Pick your flavor, learn to use one effectively, not master, but just knowing what end to point. Void rocket launcher, learn where the heavy ammo spawns. Now the key... Play control, find out of the way sniping spots, and or ambush spots on the control points. Honestly, if you do those things above, and are still having issues, your pve game must be quite frustrating. Put in the time like everyone else,or don't use it. It's a reward for those willing tho put in the time.

  • Did I read that right? you said bungie has shown inability to understand it's players since halo 3? And you also compared it to cod crappy game style? If so then you need to check with the avid halo fans. Halo 3 is in no way the same play style as cod and was an awesome game. Ask most halo players what there favorite halo was and it will be either 2 or 3.

  • +10 Tears...thanks for that. Bungie just release a list of the top 10 used guns and top 10 for Crucible. I believe that Thorn was number 3 on that list....so it is obviously not too hard, maybe its just too hard for you. There is no reason why you have to do it. If you are unable to do it, then that is ok too.

  • So basically you're mad because you have to earn something instead of it being given to you by RNG? If you can't / won't do the bounty then you don't deserve the weapon. I was able to complete the bounty and I'm terrible at PvP, if I can manage to make it through the bounty, ANYONE can. Suck it up cupcake, either get serious and play conservatively until you get it done or abandon it and never look back. Your choice.

  • Dear OP, I sympathize with your distress. I too was (and probably still am) bad at the crucible. I don't like competitive multiplayer, I don't like COD multiplayer, and the last time enjoyed this type of gameplay was halo combat evolved Xbox lan parties back when I was in middle/high school. That said, I want to share with you my personal story regarding Thorn. When I first got the bounty I thought it was going to be impossible. I got myself a void damage fusion rifle and headed into the crucible. After a day of no progress I was disheartened to say the least. I put it on the back burner and soon thereafter I took a break from the game to focus on my studies in graduate school. When I came back I abandoned the bounty because I thought it would be impossible for me and wanted to clear up room to do more bounties. A week later I got the bounty again and decided I would do it because I really like hand cannons and Thorn in particular matches my play style. This time I went to reddit and looked for advice. I'm not going to repost it here but there are tutorials available. I slogged through it and then needed to get someone to help me kill the lvl 26 wizard. That person was my first friend on Destiny and eventually led me into the Raids. Now I find myself playing crucible for fun (this is much better with Thorn) and doing the Raids with a good group. The epic bounty for Thorn forced me to go outside my comfort zone and I grew as a player because of it. Yes, it is hard. The challenge of it is meant to force one to adapt and grow. Because of that challenge the reward is all the more meaningful. When people see me with it in the raid or in the crusible they know I must be at least that good or I wouldn't have it (however good that is). If I could offer advice it would be to stick to control matches. In control matches the best strategy to win is to focus on gaining the control points, this means that the other people in the match have multiple goals of getting control points and killing you. You only have one goal: kill and don't die. You don't care about winning the match, just about getting points for the bounty. Don't be a team player, now is not the time for that. That will come later when you aren't limited by the void damage. Try engaging enemies that are already engaged with your teammates and make sure to get the kill by shooting after your teammate weakens them. Don't try to capture points, try to flank enemies on their way to capture points. At first this will be difficult until you learn the maps, then you'll be able to anticipate the enemy movements. Don't engage multiple opponents unless you have a void super ready on a warlock. I also suggest doing this when iron banner is going on (but not in the iron banner). That way all the best players will be off doing that and you are left alone with the other amateurs where you stand a better chance. I wish you all the best and hope you hang in there. I should also note that it is reprehensible to treat your team like this and you should spend some time (after you have thorn) atoning for this selfish way of playing by playing more selflessly. Be the hero and redeem yourself (and Thorn as well, if you care about the history of the weapon). You can do it. I believe in you, guardian.

    • Its not broken of you cant maintain a .66 kd then you have some issues the void part is negligible as a shotgun or fusion thats void wrecks crucible i did it on hunter with corrective measure and atheons in the second iron banner so should be pretty easy with a better setup than that (had no void secondary) considering specials are outstanding in crucible

    • It's really not that hard. Takes longer then most other bounties if you don't have void weapons but come on it's the crucible. Go buy an uncommon void weapon from the gunsmith. Also go play some vog and get an epilogue if you don't already have one and just use that.

Void fusion rifle and don't barrel into firefights. I painfully did it with aetheon a epilogue. And had to drastically change my play style to a more defensive play style in the crucible playing mainly control games. Although I believe this bounty should be difficult as thorn is one of the top 5 weapons in the game I do take pity on players. It is a game and therefor should be fun. My proposal would be that you couldn't lose any more points then what you originally started with per match. Example: you start a match with 15 points, you can gain points per kill as the bounty states, but, you can also lose those points in that match, but never dip below 15 points as that's what you started the match with. Any points that where gained and kept will be added to players low end point total. Ensuring that they can't go below it. This makes the bounties progress based more off of performance in individual matches then performance in the crucible as a whole. I think this would be a happy medium as player can make slow progress even if they aren't skilled in PvP. It does sound a little confusing but it does make sense. If we say 1 kill = 1 point. Death = -1 point (For the sake of simple math ) I start a match with 10 points earned from previous matches. I kill 6 enemy players and gain 6 points during the match. I die 4 times during the same match losing 4 points from the 6 I gained. The match ends. I'z now have gained +2 points to my overall total making my new point total 12 points. My new base total is now 12 for the next match, regardless of how many deaths occur for me I cannot drop below 12 points. The flip side of this is if I don't have a positive kill vs death ratio I won't gain ANY points.

      • Using a hunter makes this harder, as there is no void subclass. I got the bounty done with a void shotgun. That is all. It is not very difficult, and it's definitley not broken. Get better at cruciable, Christmas noob (I mean no offense by the final two words, and I may be incorrect in my assumption. But it's a guess, as with your Titan and Warlock you cannot get the bounty done [unless it's on your hunter]).

      • I got the bounty 2 days ago and got the gun, it's honestly so easy. I ran around with a fusion rifle for the entire day and got it wait until you have to do the final part, it's and kick in the ass.

      • Most people I know that haven't completed it are simply lacking in the drive to finish it. It's completely doable even for a bad player, you just have to be committed to finishing it.

        • You chose to select the bounty. You could easily have looked up the requirements and difficulty of it and picked a different bounty since you're offered 3. Either meet the requirements or don't finish it. It's hard but not at all impossible. If my GF can complete it (she is terrible, and a hunter) by simply changing her playstyle and being extremely cautious, then so could you.

        • I did it with my hunter and after like 5 hours I got it. I just used sniper/shotgun depending on the map and stayed in the back corner. Not that hard just very time consuming if you aren't good at crucible

Completed the crucible part in a day with a hunter which has no void. I suck at crucible mind you. So if I can do it so can you. Specially with so many Christmas noobs in the crucible. Your set up should be a epilogue primary, void fusion rifle or shotgun, and a void heavy.

        • It's not that hard. The only time I have ever played crucible was to get the Thorn bounty. It's very easy. Just got a void sniper and I camped. Got it in about an hour and a half. It's not that difficult.

        • Its seriously not that hard. Took me 6 games last night using a swapping between a sniper, fusion and HMG. Yes it was a voidwalker but not that many kills were from the novabomb.
