And why is the better?
Edit: thank you guys for all the recommendations

Thorn out ranges the tlw. Tlw will out dps anything but a shotgun up close. The problem is tlw has to get that close first.
-
A cool thing about these two guns is they actually have a past with each other. The owner of the Thorn killed the original owner of The Last Word. (Grim ore) Have fun with that one...
-
Wow, so many scrubs saying thorn cod they can't use a hancannon which actually takes a bit of effort to use...
-
Hawkmoon, all day every day.
-
Fatebringer
-
Depends... Firebase Delphi? Tlw. Rusted lands? Thorn.
-
In terms of kill time TLW but thorn for high dps
-
Depends your play style are u close up in battle or shooting from range playing it safe. Tbh I like last word more I got both but I'll give thorn credit I went 26 and 0 and got prevailed and unbroken for not dying the whole game
-
Last word is better at max skill cap. But thorn is FAR easier to use.
-
Last word is the best counter to Thorn. However Thorn is so reliable at killing and with two HS you know you are golden and can walk away from the fight so for me it's Thorn.
-
I love the rate of fire on the last word.
-
Depends on map.
-
-
I have both, and prefer TLW.
-
Thorn is much easier to use & far more deadly overall. Its the suros of handcannons, except with a much bigger punch
-
Because you can get off 2 bullets from the thorn before the three you need from TLW. 2 bullets = kill
-
For both pvp and pve, thorn is better all around. But tlw will always outperform thorn in close quarters. Personally....Thorn is my baby
-
Thorn. It doesn't take long to learn to use it effectively. TLW takes a while to figure out.
-
It's tough to say because I think TLW fits a run and gun play style on close range maps like Mar, but I run my thorn most of the time lately and try to keep everything at mid range.

Edited by I2edShift: 1/11/2015 5:30:29 AMThorn is a noticeably better overall weapon because of its much better range, DOT utility, and great stats overall now. TLW really is a Crucible gun. For it to really work in PvE you need armor that boosts ammo & Reload speed. It chews through ammo and it's range really is pretty bad. You can use it fine with Soft Ballistics, but it has clear limitations. I love both guns, both are amazing in Crucible. TLW is my favorite because of aesthetics, sound, and it's just dammed fun to use. Thorn is a better overall weapon though.

The last word can be shot the fastest, it has a true exotic feel with fan fire and looks simply awsome.

Edited by Coppertop42: 1/9/2015 11:02:23 PMAnother "How long is a piece of string" question...But I happen to be a big fan of both hand cannons so I'll bite. My answer is "That depends". The only place I really feel TLW is stronger than Thorn is mid- to close-range PvP. Its excellent hip-fire makes it an ideal close range weapon but it's bucking-bronco style fire makes its value drop off rapidly at a distance. In PvE, TLW burns through its ammo so fast you will find yourself spending a good amount of time reloading and scrounging for ammo. Thorn is strong in both PvP and PvE. In PvP, it is highly effective mid- to long-range and is capable of 2 precision hit kills. Another big perk is the DoT, which prevents shields from regenerating for its duration and allows you to track targets you've shot behind barriers (look for the DoT ticking damage). Additionally, the DoT carries a strong "psychological" advantage, as people taking DoT damage will often feel the pressure of being constantly "under fire" for the duration of the DoT. In PvE, the gun has a good sized clip, dishes out a respectable amount of damage, and shares all the same PvP advantages (sans the psychological component - our AI isn't that good yet). Oh, and I've never heard anyone talk about this, but each tick of the DoT has a chance to stagger PvE targets. TL;DR Thorn is my preferred choice in the majority of situations, both PvP and PvE, with TLW eking ahead in "O.K. Corral" style PvP.

Edited by ArticularAlloy: 1/9/2015 2:02:36 PMThorn is without a doubt the better weapon. TLW is fun weapon, great looking, but it's far from the most effective hand cannon. Hawkmoon, Thorn, and Fatebringer are all superior hand cannons. The new TLW owners will vote it because it's this weeks flavor of the week, no other reason.

I haven't used the thorn but I've used the last word. But I think the thorn is better because it has that extra damage from poison. The last word is only fast lol
-
TLWis firmly in last place amongst exotic hand cannons

Sadly tlw has little to no PvE use, but it boasts one of the fastest crucible kill times of any weapon in destiny. Alternatively, thorn is good in both PvE and pvp, and allows you to move on to new targets as your previous victim bleeds to death. Both are great weapons, it really depends on your playstyle
