What does the name of our beloved Bungie mean? Does it have a meaning or is it an anacronym?
Sorry if this has been up before.
I heard on a radio programe that Frankie knows what it means, and a few others, but that's about it. It's important! How can they conquer the world e.t.c. e.t.c., when no-one has the foggiest idea what it means.
Is it :
To jump from great heights relying on an elastic thread tied around ones legs for survival?
Beautiful Umbrellas Need Great Intelligent Eggs?
Probably not, but maybe?
Someone please tell, or just give your suggestions as to the meaning or anacronym - possibly with more sense than my one above.
Loyal fan

Indeed it is Recon....Out of curiosity...Do you know? Are you a Grizzled Acient? You sound like mabey you know.....I just say, we do not deserve to know some things about Bungie...One is the origin of the name....If we are ever deemed worthy, it will be told to us.

Indeed. But only the wisest know the truth...
Posted by: High Truth ...as far as I am concerned, let Bungie have their secret...They deserve it.
Very wise. But it IS fun to watch people guess.
-
To find out the name; one needs to find the Grizzled Acient that created it, and some moment or event in that ones life that would spawn such a coming. For instance, I have a friend that has two names he is thinking about for his company.....Everything has a meaning, even to those that sprout random things like those times I have seen at Bungie....I like it thought...as far as I am concerned, let Bungie have their secret...They deserve it.
-
Maybe it is a branch off of the original meaning. This meaning being the type of jump. it could also be a very in depth meaning that is not obvious to anyone, even Frankie. Maybe it is so obvious that we all think it wouldn't mean it when it really does. I think that Bungie has a different meaning for every games, some it can be a god, others, an enemy. If you look deep inside I'm sure that you will be able to make up your own meaning for the word or scronym "Bungie" And does it really matter what other people say?

Hmmm. Bananas, eh? Bananas Used Near Guns Indicates Enormous pain

At this rate, these bananas are safe..... *grin*

Buying Up Nuclear Guns Intended for Extermination Ooooooh...... That goes well with the whole "world domination" thing.

Bragging unanimous nerds grinning in ecstacy at least that would make sense after some games came out.
Posted by: MCs Brother Buying Useless Needless Gin In Excess That probably pertains more to the webmaster than Bungie.
Gin (or any booze for that matter) is neither needless nor useless. Shame on you for saying so. Except for spiced rum, that stuff is nasty... even if you are a Pimp at Sea.

From this very site;
The Secret of Bungie Although the only ever official explanation reaches new heights of unbelievable lameness, the secret of the actual Bungie name has become so closely guarded, that even a few Grizzled Ancients either don't know or aren't sure if it's true. There truly is a very strange reason for the company being called “Bungie,” and we daren't reveal it here. There are…penalties leveled at those who reveal the deepest secrets. Penalties that involve bananas and screaming.
Trust me, anytime we make someone scream by using a banana, it's VERY unpleasant. For both the victim and for the fruit, neither are ever quite the same.

Bungie is Bungie, and Bungie, is Bungie.
