Why the hate on campers?

Never understood why people in twitch shooters always hate on campers. Using cover, taking it slowly, and holding key tactical positions makes twitch shooters much more tolerable and enjoyable. I much prefer doing that than running around like a retard blasting everyone in the face with a shotgun.

  • Sniping is part of any fps, if you can't take out a sniper with a sniper or the many other strategies, than you are obviously lacking in skill, and should carry on with the eagle strikes and avoid crucible.

Invising on a ledge somewhere the whole match is camping, crouching in one spot the whole game or hiding is some pseudo-glitchy part of the map is camping, slowly making your way across the map while going for the objective and getting kills isn't camping, Holding down an entire area to yourself isn't camping, people hate campers because those players are useless and annoying, I had a teammate in salavage recently do this and he had 0 kills 1600 points, he was doing nothing for the team and when they are on the opposing team they are most likely the ones to ruin your spree by catching you off guard since you think to yourself "no one is that bad at this game, no one would possibly be here." and then you die by them, they contribute nothing and do nothing, they may as well be AFK

      • I don't mind people who camp, it's the people who sit a corner with a Shotgun that I mind. Usually when I kill them I drop my nuts on their face a few times to assert dominance and then continue on my way.

        • I don't mind campers But the lack of ways to flush them out is annoying. Most games have a square room and then no windows or holes to see where someone might be. That's the only reason the get away with it

        • If everyone camped, the game would go to time, score 0-0. It requires someone being the agressor. Obviously strategic defense of fixed positions is neccessary at times, but some times people take it too far

        • holding down choke points in objective modes is not camping, it's clever play and crucial for winning. but sitting crouched in a corner with a shotgun in a deathmatch game is camping, usually done by noobs that are otherwise get slayn or k/d boosters.

          • I don't mind people strategically holding a position, especially in control when points r to be defended. What I hate is people that sit crouched in a corner with a very limited view waiting for people to come by so they can blast them with a shotgun or fusion rifle. That's what I consider camping. Snipers in cod are still a pain in the ass though.

          • Never understood it myself. While i don't camp since i find it boring, i understand that its a strategy nonetheless. And camping in Destiny is easy to counter since we all have radars.

          • I use to be one of those twitch shooters. I played that way for the past week, trying to compete with the shotguns and fusion rifles. I'm use to the fast pace of halo and COD, that is my play style. I can't play that way on Destiny. The started using my sniper today, covering lanes and teammates, my in game K/D has been over a 2 almost every game. Hell I had a game with 13 assists, that's double what I normally would have. It's not cheap. It's tactical. And eventually someone kills me. What's stupid is running into rooms with shotguns when you have a 50/50 chance of dying almost immediately. I tend to "camp" areas, not spots. I'll hold a spot in between control zones so I can respond quickly if someone starts to take one.

            • Campers are rarely of any use to a team, especially in a game with fast respawning. I'd rather my team mate ran towards the enemy shooting in the air than camping as at least then he'd be a distraction!

            • I don't see campers as how you're describing them. I'm an aggressive player but I also hold tactical positions. The difference between me and a camper is that I first run towards the enemies and take the first shot in stead of standing in the closest corner/ in front of some opening waiting for someone to come to me.

            • I agree with SpartanWarNinja that 'rushing' gets some incentives through the way the in-game leaderboards are built. People with 30 kills and 40 deaths get on top of the list, while in reality they are a net cost factor as they provide the enemy team more points than they gain themselves. I personally interpret the end results as a combination of KD-ratio and number of kills. At least in halo they included a net +/-, which in my opinion is a better indicator of performance. And as far as the camping goes, using strategic positioning in your advantage is intelligent and part of the game. However, to fully benefit from it you should have a well-coordinated team; playing with randoms will negatively impact the 'strategic positioning' of an individual. Btw, whilst playing halo I have seen quite often that top-tier teams would sacrifice their map control in the end-game, even though they were ahead, let's say 48-46 :-) They were mostly players that had skill, but were too inpatient or just were not smart enough. So you can imagine what happens when you put 12 random people together in the crucible.

Generally because the kills are cheap. A camper is not going to do well overall. In a game like this he will probably be negative as you can see them on radar. It works for a kill here or there on players that wouldn't think you'd be in a spot that your in. They think you wouldn't be in that spot because it's not conducive to doing well in a match. So when you get that 1 kill on that good player because you are playing in a horrible shit way, and you go 4-10 and that player went 19-4 he's going to get mad, and it's understandable. That being said holding down areas for map control like c+b on shores of time isn't camping. It's not camping to hold the area around b on firebase, it's not camping to hold b and hallway on blind watch. That is just tactical play, and the people that call Tha camping are noobs that run around with shootys. Controlling the important areas of the map is intelligent play, don't confuse it with sitting in a corner in an inconsequential area.

              • How I distinguish "campers" Guy who is stays at objective and guards it. Not camping Stationary Sniper. Not camping. Guy who hides in corner or behind a wall not moving and waiting for ppl to pass by. -blam!-ing camping Difference between 2 & 3. 2 is how a sniper is used. 3 is a little bitch. Especially in gears. Omfg! -blam!- Epic for making the SOS!!!

                • There's like a type of camping that I don't like. Like sure I never move away from my position between two capture points in control, but shit at least I move around. The kind of campers I dispose are the ones that just stay in the same damn position the entire game. And when they figure out they've been spotted, they either run to another camping spot or they go back to the same damn one.

                    • That's not generally what people see as camping. Holding onto sniper lines where enemies are going to feed in or staying in position for team shot is just good play. Camping is when you find some spot on the map where players can't see/shoot you and crouch with a shotgun waiting for people to walk by. It's a move that takes no skill and, depending on the number of people doing it, can make gameplay extremely boring. I usually don't care if someone camps. The way I see it, they likely won't be getting that many kills in the match, especially if they don't rotate spots. They'll also likely get killed at some point because they aren't very good. They're also adding nothing to their team, so it makes it easier for me to rack up kills on his teammate.

                    • Tactical playing and camping are two completely different things. You like tactical plays. You like move around a certain area in a moan holding it down, staying near something like a flag and being smart on your moves. A camper is someone who decides to sit in a random corner of the map and use an op weapon to kill everyone and not do anything for the team.

Yes, but in game modes like control it is a useless member of the team. It is made significantly worse if you snipe a player, then still stay there. I suck at PvP, but those guys make really easy kills.
