Keeping ALL raids relevant. You can do it, Bungie.

Let's get this straight. The petitions to upgrade the raid weapons are slightly off base, but on the right track. We all love our Fatebringers, etc, but simply upgrading these weapons to 331 does not solve the larger issue. What really needs to happen is a max level version of VoG to be released. Keeping EVERY raid relevant as end game content. This would also apply to Crota's End (and VoG again) once House of Wolves is released, etc. Since currently there is no natural progression for players to complete VoG and then Crota's End, I see no reason why Bungie would not want to keep their raids meaningful for top end players. All raid gear offered, regardless of which one, would offer the top end gear and max level weapons. Are you guys seeing yet another purpose to this yet? Gear customization! Since it's clear that Bungie only wants to offer a single set of gear per class in each raid, keeping multiple raids in the mix means that players will now have options for their max level characters in their gear choices. Mix and match raid sets, or simply hold onto them to use as situational items depending on the enemies you face. I really think that most players would get behind this idea, so let's not let it get lost in the fray of class warfare and cries for buffs and nerfs that plague these forums. Please bump and upvote to support so Bungie can see that there is a knowledgeable and reasonable community that wants the best for the world of Destiny! Edit: Seems like lots of agreement so far, but don't be shy if you have more to add or want to contribute to the idea! Thank you all for the support, we're off to a good start! Edit: Already made it to TRENDING! Thank you everyone so far for the input, let's keep it going! Also, I love the counter-points so let's hear it! Edit: Wow guys! I left work, went out to dinner, and came back to FIFTY MORE UPVOTES!!! I'll do my best to respond to all of the comments that provided some larger feedback or opposing views, but big thanks to everyone who's come and contributed. EDIT FOR RESPONSES: Okay everyone, so in particular, I am finding the best arguments against this that the raids should be setup as a progression rather than all raids being moved to max level at some point. I find it hard to disagree with this view as well, but the problem I see is that Bungie so far has made it seem that they don't want it to work that way, just based on vendor gear alone. Now if that was to change I would have to think that a progression would make sense. Part of me still would love all raids as endgame, but I wouldn't complain if it was set up the other way. At least we all seem to agree that in current state it needs some work! MORE!: To those who are worried that raising the cap of VoG would hurt Bungie's ability to continue to sell the new content, we've had some more good ideas discussed. For players who don't buy the new DLC, the raids don't change. However, in our current situation, those who defeat Crota would receive a token that would let them go back and "upgrade" VoG to max level. Seems legit! Top 3 Trending Topic, thank you everyone! Growing Pains: A few comments now in regards to what happens when there are 4-5 raids to complete each week? Does this not become overwhelming for players and there be too much to do? To that I say this: Right now, Destiny is VERY completionist because there is so little relevant content to actually do. If there were 4-5 raids available, each dropping top tier content, but simply with different choices for perks, styles, etc, then maybe players wouldn't feel the NEED to rip through 100% of all available areas. Some would, yes. Others may work through 1 raid at a time until they've gotten everything they want out of it, and then move on to master the next one. It's hard for me to say that adding this variety for players at endgame would be a bad thing just because of the notion that players should always be able to completely clear all content on a weekly basis. Thank you, thank you, thank you: Thank, YOU. Lots of great arguments here from everyone on both sides. Lots of awesome compromises, and great insight. I'm not going to keep adding infinite edits like some posts, but I will continue to remain part of the conversations that are going on because I definitely think we're onto something. Thank you again to everyone for the support, and please continue to share with your friends for more upvotes so Bungie looks at this closely. Fight on, Guardians! PS - At about 400 upvotes and over 300 comments, I really hope DeeJ gets to read this when he gets back. Some awesome ideas from everyone. Edit: Anyone think that now with VoG dropping v2 exotics, that is enough "relevance"? I'm happy about the change, but not completely. Edit: Keep this bumped for DeeJ! TLDR: Great ideas from all around. Either make max level versions of old raids available to those who have already completed the latest raid (keeps non-DLC purchasers out of end game as business model intended), or correct vendor gear issue so that it never surpasses raid quality gear (forces natural progression of content). Pros and cons to all arguments of course, but it's been a great discussion. Keep the bumps comin! (Thanks to everyone for the continued bumps.) HoW Update: SUPER excited for House of Wolves. Love all the new info. Looks like we may get upgraded VoG weapons and gear at some point following the release. If that happens then I see no need for a third raid. We would still get 2 at max level AND have a 3 player horde Arena mode. LOVE this. Slow but steady, Bungie.

  • I agree that all raids need to be kept relevent but i think a better way of doing it is fixing VoG so all the bugs are gone and I MEAN all of them add in Crotas loot drop rate, remove the light 33 vendor gear and replace it with light 28(or whatever it was orgionally i dont rember) make it so legendery engrams have a chance to drop light 30 gear from roc strikes and then we have a progression system that dosnt shoehorn you into raiding to get a workable set of gear but like in most games if you want the best gear you need to put in the hours and do the current end game content. I think a progression system works best as the raids are kept being run by some players those that have out grown it can move on but more importantly you will get a sense of achivment when you progress through one tier from another and thats why i game and the way i run in life if i want something i work for it practice save up for it etc and then i get it and i get that warm fuzzy feeling knowing i worked for that and now its mine.

    • I think when you do the last raid on hard now crota it needs to unlock something so vog get 36 gear and 331 weapons so we can grind vog again. For the next dlc complete hard house wolfs you can grind crota and vog again for better amor and weapons. I dont think they will do it from first week release because everyone would be max level in one week with 3 raid max armor . Thats way grind new raid complete hard unlock in all raids max weapons and armor

      • For those saying new destiny gamers should have to progress through the raids and upgrade the armor before moving onto the next raid, never going to happen. Why buy the game if you're two or three dlcs behind. Limits those you can play with greatly. Bungie is a business and looks to grow the community. That would only restrict it.

        • I would say that they release more than one raid gear. Two or maybe 3 total different gears with different perks, and as you say, customize it for every fight to it the best. I feel like Bungie should poop out more different gear, and not just copy and paste with different name or cover with one extra detail. I would love to wear my raid gear, but then again, I don't want to look like exactly everyone else.

The point of this post is to make raids relevant. Let's look at what that means: gear and weapon progression - better gear and weapons drops from more difficult raids Character progression - as your gear and weapons improve, new raids are easier/possible to do Raid longevity - raids need to always be relevant to one or more of the above. Cheesing raids, not giving out decent gear or weapons, or offering no character progression makes a raid irrelevant quickly. Raid challenge - raids should be designed well to be challenging and fun as the first goal. If they are not perceived to be worth the reward, or are not fun enough, folks skip them (oracle checkpoint anyone?) or complain they are a grind (material farming). To make all the above relevant, raids need to be offered at several difficulty levels. Cheese, normal, hard, and super hard, with more added with each expansion pack. Each difficult level rewards one tier higher level of armor so you can replay at a higher level. Cheese - weapons hit 4x but only shards as a reward. Normal - able to be done by a group of 26-28, Hard - level 29-31 Super hard - level 31- 33 All raids should always have the possibility of handing out raid specific armor and gear. All raids should give out something when replayed within the same week to make them more relevant too. Also, all cheering methods need to be agressively patched. Cheering only shortens the fun / longevity / challenge / enjoyment of the game, and makes the existent content more obsolete more quickly. Making raids relevant is the whole point here. Cheese Bugs should be fixed first before anything else is done or considered.

            • I think that they should raise the VoG Raid Gear to 33 Light and Weapons to 331 Damage. Vendor Gear should NEVER outclass ANY Raid Gear. Ever. New Raids outclassing older Raids, sure.

            • Nailed it. If I might add something though.....I think the total amount of gear available needs to be increased. Maybe have 2 sets of raid gear per class (one that promotes each subclass with its bonuses). They can keep adding more (especially if they add more subclasses), so that people would still have reason to run VoG (now) and Crota's End (after House of Wolves comes out. A big problem with the raid gear is that the raid gear generally gives you bonuses for the raid that you have to do to acquire raid gear. Honestly the only reason I ever do vault of glass anymore is to try and get the one unicorn that has eluded me since the week after the game came out: the Vex Mythoclast.

                • I have a lvl 31 Hunter and a 31 Lock. I have yet to finish VoG. Tried it once, without beating Atheon. It was really fun, and I hope I get a chance to finish it sometime. But now there's no point, just rather do CE and get better gear. I would want vendor gear to prepare u for VoG. And gear that drops in VoG would prepare u to Crota's End. And gear that drops in CE would prepare u for the next raid and so on. I said to my friends that when the DLC comes out there would be no reason to do VoG. OMG I was right and I wish so very much that I wasent. I think the raid gear from CE must be better then all the other ones, but please dear Bungie make me do VoG first! Matchmaking would make it alot easier for casual gamers to do a raid. Just make it with alot of options so that u find a group that fit for u and groups to find who they are looking for. There are alot of players that still havent tried VoG or CE.

                  • What about turning them into some kind of matchmaking strike thing? Make em easier, keep them as extra strikes that serve as tutorials for raiding. Switch rewards to similar to those in other strikes. Just an idea.

                      • This need to happen, Id like to see Gaurdians wearing the Raid armor of their choice. Itd be cool to see the themes, we would see a slight sense of factioning. Weapons would be debated, armor perks would bd swapped out, hybrid builds would be possible... This needs to happen

                        • I really like this idea and hopefully Bungie will decide to keep Vault of Glass relevant. I want this to happen just because new Guardian's will learn how to become a team.Vault of Glass depends on team work way more then Crota's End.
