Keeping ALL raids relevant. You can do it, Bungie.

Let's get this straight. The petitions to upgrade the raid weapons are slightly off base, but on the right track. We all love our Fatebringers, etc, but simply upgrading these weapons to 331 does not solve the larger issue. What really needs to happen is a max level version of VoG to be released. Keeping EVERY raid relevant as end game content. This would also apply to Crota's End (and VoG again) once House of Wolves is released, etc. Since currently there is no natural progression for players to complete VoG and then Crota's End, I see no reason why Bungie would not want to keep their raids meaningful for top end players. All raid gear offered, regardless of which one, would offer the top end gear and max level weapons. Are you guys seeing yet another purpose to this yet? Gear customization! Since it's clear that Bungie only wants to offer a single set of gear per class in each raid, keeping multiple raids in the mix means that players will now have options for their max level characters in their gear choices. Mix and match raid sets, or simply hold onto them to use as situational items depending on the enemies you face. I really think that most players would get behind this idea, so let's not let it get lost in the fray of class warfare and cries for buffs and nerfs that plague these forums. Please bump and upvote to support so Bungie can see that there is a knowledgeable and reasonable community that wants the best for the world of Destiny! Edit: Seems like lots of agreement so far, but don't be shy if you have more to add or want to contribute to the idea! Thank you all for the support, we're off to a good start! Edit: Already made it to TRENDING! Thank you everyone so far for the input, let's keep it going! Also, I love the counter-points so let's hear it! Edit: Wow guys! I left work, went out to dinner, and came back to FIFTY MORE UPVOTES!!! I'll do my best to respond to all of the comments that provided some larger feedback or opposing views, but big thanks to everyone who's come and contributed. EDIT FOR RESPONSES: Okay everyone, so in particular, I am finding the best arguments against this that the raids should be setup as a progression rather than all raids being moved to max level at some point. I find it hard to disagree with this view as well, but the problem I see is that Bungie so far has made it seem that they don't want it to work that way, just based on vendor gear alone. Now if that was to change I would have to think that a progression would make sense. Part of me still would love all raids as endgame, but I wouldn't complain if it was set up the other way. At least we all seem to agree that in current state it needs some work! MORE!: To those who are worried that raising the cap of VoG would hurt Bungie's ability to continue to sell the new content, we've had some more good ideas discussed. For players who don't buy the new DLC, the raids don't change. However, in our current situation, those who defeat Crota would receive a token that would let them go back and "upgrade" VoG to max level. Seems legit! Top 3 Trending Topic, thank you everyone! Growing Pains: A few comments now in regards to what happens when there are 4-5 raids to complete each week? Does this not become overwhelming for players and there be too much to do? To that I say this: Right now, Destiny is VERY completionist because there is so little relevant content to actually do. If there were 4-5 raids available, each dropping top tier content, but simply with different choices for perks, styles, etc, then maybe players wouldn't feel the NEED to rip through 100% of all available areas. Some would, yes. Others may work through 1 raid at a time until they've gotten everything they want out of it, and then move on to master the next one. It's hard for me to say that adding this variety for players at endgame would be a bad thing just because of the notion that players should always be able to completely clear all content on a weekly basis. Thank you, thank you, thank you: Thank, YOU. Lots of great arguments here from everyone on both sides. Lots of awesome compromises, and great insight. I'm not going to keep adding infinite edits like some posts, but I will continue to remain part of the conversations that are going on because I definitely think we're onto something. Thank you again to everyone for the support, and please continue to share with your friends for more upvotes so Bungie looks at this closely. Fight on, Guardians! PS - At about 400 upvotes and over 300 comments, I really hope DeeJ gets to read this when he gets back. Some awesome ideas from everyone. Edit: Anyone think that now with VoG dropping v2 exotics, that is enough "relevance"? I'm happy about the change, but not completely. Edit: Keep this bumped for DeeJ! TLDR: Great ideas from all around. Either make max level versions of old raids available to those who have already completed the latest raid (keeps non-DLC purchasers out of end game as business model intended), or correct vendor gear issue so that it never surpasses raid quality gear (forces natural progression of content). Pros and cons to all arguments of course, but it's been a great discussion. Keep the bumps comin! (Thanks to everyone for the continued bumps.) HoW Update: SUPER excited for House of Wolves. Love all the new info. Looks like we may get upgraded VoG weapons and gear at some point following the release. If that happens then I see no need for a third raid. We would still get 2 at max level AND have a 3 player horde Arena mode. LOVE this. Slow but steady, Bungie.

      • This idea is dumb. Why would they keep a raid relevant when they want you to play their new raid and you will continue to play the old one. Hell i like vog more than crotas, so i continue to do it. How many mmos keep their raids relevant? Did wow keep molton core relevant 9 years before they re-did raid?! (10 years almost and they didnt once keep it relevant until the latest patch and even then i think ot was just an event..)Nope. What about black wing lair, kharazan, naxx, zul amani, zul guru?! None of these were revitalized until years after when they needed to recycle content. Is that what you want bungie to waste the money we spent on this game, cover ups!? -blam!- dude. i can provide many many more examples from a few other mmos, not just wow. And yeah sure destiny isnt an mmo. But thats not what im arguing here so if you try and argue that with me you will be muted instantly because i dont waste my time with those people. This would make all new raid weapons irrelevant, because a lot of the vog legendarys are better in my opinion. Also, if you have dismantled your vog gear i feel sorry for you, being level 32 has literally no advantage in vog. So if you didnt keep the gloves and helm at least you already lose. But hey people like you are cheaper than a dime a dozen, you liter these forums with ridiculous posts thinking your going to get bungie to change their mind with 400 up posts?! You would need at least 5000 to start getting their attention at least. And im willing to bet bungie shuts down the post before it gets any momentum because they arent going to do this. So why not squash the bug? But this post wont get even half that many. So its not even a problem. Has no one ever played video games before? I feel like im the only one that understands how they work

        • Bump......I would love to have more of a variety to chose from when it comes gear. I actually liked my raid gear from VOG but not so much when it comes to the raid gear for Crota. P.S. It would also be nice to be able to keep fatebringer :)

That would be awesome, you have my full support on that, but I don't think it'll happen. Mostly because Bungie wants people to buy the new dlcs as soon as they are released, and let's be honest, take the raid, the weekly activities and Xur out of Destiny and there is no Destiny. It simply doesn't have enough content to remain relevant without those three. That's mostly why people got so royally pissed at Bungie for making the Nightfall and Weekly activities locked from non-dlc users in certain weeks. And they seem to be pretty conforable with that, since The Will of crota was up again for the Nightfall Strike in 2 weeks, and every 2 days one of the DLC missions goes for the daily mission. (PLEASE STOP, IT'S ONLY TWO MISSIONS, I DON'T WANT TO PLAY THEM ANYMORE) With that being said, I could happen, but it's very unlikely. Seems we'll just have to adapt to the next raid gear when house of wolves drops in.

          • One more thing. Have you been under a rock since the dlc came out?! Why on earth would bungie start giving a damn about people who didnt have the dlc, if by chance they upped the level of vog for "dlc owners" you can be damn sure that people with out the dlc would be -blam!-ed.

Good points from all and it's nice to see that a lot of people still care about the VoG. My proposal would be to somehow make the looting system similar to CE, as to what you get depending on the difficulty. Also the normal and hard modes get a level increase according tothe raise every new dlc is bringing (as of now 32 is the max so hard mode should hit that mark, as CE hard will be 33) The loot you receive should be able to raise you to 32 though, and the weapons must get a boost on base damage just like the Vex @ 323. while the new DLC weapons reamin stronger @ 331. And these changes should affect every future DLC and and an increase on the level cap. Or if this is too much...at least let us trade ascedant shards for radiant ones with the ratio being 10 for 1.

How about instead of permanent relevance, the last Raid will get you to the next Raid without vendor gear getting further... I would love for succeeding raids to start a level below the prior raid gear, with the new raid gear being sought after... I hate that there is no point in trying to get a full raid set off Atheon... Since vendor gear now has higher light.

In no way am I saying your idea is not good or that's wrong and not to follow through with it I just do not agree and I respect your decision. I'm open for friendly debate/discussion with grown up people who can handle being told that someone is not agreeing with their idea or ideas. I do not agree that Destiny needs to keep any of it's raids relevant. At this time it's working well and definitely levels you up in progressive way. It is very unhealthy for a games future to be just tweaking old content to make it feel new. Bungie did this with the new DLC and how did they get responds like? I'd imagine a huge portion of the player base hated just doing all the same level a backwards. Adjusting old content to feel new or to keep up with newer activities not only stumps rhe games growth but also takes away from the people that raid was made to help. It transfers the level 25 into 30 while giving them some sick (still very relevant, I will and can argue) VoG weapons. That's why the new vendor weapons are higher then the VoG raid weapons. Your options are to switch to them when they become irrelevant (when HoW releases) or when you need to do the new CE raid. That raid is the only place (until HoW) that the VoG weapons will under perform and even then most of them still paved the first foot steps into CE. Right now some of the biggest problems in deatiny is ,yes there is not a lot of end game content, but if you revamp it what do you get? Sure it's now on par with the current level rating but that's not been a problem in destiny or games like deatiny. Games like destiny at the core will always be changing. Remeber how we used to be able to do a handful of stuff in the first month but now do not have that option but we have a new option? Brining in these new options is stimulating growth in the games future. What do I think would remedy this situation? More higher level, end game activities and content. New high level activities and end game content. There needs to be more variety during so players are not all hitting a wall after reset during the week. This new content/activity that would launch would replace (replace in a way that you now would choose to do this activity instead of the old raid) old raids so that so that Some people are actually cramming it into one day which is not good...but that's their own thing. I end up running out of stuff to do near the last 2-3 days of the week before reset. If they brought in more activities along with the new raids that do come out, then they would remedy that need for new content, that need for more to do during the week, new ways to obtain/maintain and secure new loot (i forgot to mention with these new activities that they would house new armour and weapons with on par stats resembling vendor stuff, but I'll mention it now to hopefully avoid confusion) to also advance. This would also remedies the situation where you look like me, and him, and her and everyone else. This would be introducing a 4th set of armour to choose from for end game. (As it stands for end game there is the CE gear, vanguard gear and crucible gear that is aimed for end game.

              • i'm sure someone has already said this, but i don't think they even need to buff the old raid weapons... maybe just have all shards (or broken down weapons) in the raid yield 'radiant shards'... that way when you play the raid for new gear/weapons you will still want to play the old raids so you can level them up faster!

Bump - said this in a prev post. There is not enough variance in the weapon and gear load outs to be leaving gear behind and pushing everyone onto the same new gear. A new level VoG with equivalent level gear would stop everyone running around with the exact same set up and weapons. Please listen bungie, I hope you have a revised VoG in the works.

                • Well I feel like they should have kept the old vanguard lvl 29 gear and just add the new set's with each piece requiring a commendation. This alone would have kept VoG viable. This would force new players to experience the VoG since they would not likely be over rank 3 in anything and you can only get 100 points a week. On a side note the VoG helmet and boots are still viable. The helmet is the only piece of gear with perks that can be used outside the vault, and the boots are good until you get the new raid boots.

                • Sounds good. There should be 331 drops on hard or a level 31 or 32 difficulty. I still do vog occasionally on hard because I want the vex, but other than that it's just fun. Nothing else.
