Keeping ALL raids relevant. You can do it, Bungie.

Let's get this straight. The petitions to upgrade the raid weapons are slightly off base, but on the right track. We all love our Fatebringers, etc, but simply upgrading these weapons to 331 does not solve the larger issue. What really needs to happen is a max level version of VoG to be released. Keeping EVERY raid relevant as end game content. This would also apply to Crota's End (and VoG again) once House of Wolves is released, etc. Since currently there is no natural progression for players to complete VoG and then Crota's End, I see no reason why Bungie would not want to keep their raids meaningful for top end players. All raid gear offered, regardless of which one, would offer the top end gear and max level weapons. Are you guys seeing yet another purpose to this yet? Gear customization! Since it's clear that Bungie only wants to offer a single set of gear per class in each raid, keeping multiple raids in the mix means that players will now have options for their max level characters in their gear choices. Mix and match raid sets, or simply hold onto them to use as situational items depending on the enemies you face. I really think that most players would get behind this idea, so let's not let it get lost in the fray of class warfare and cries for buffs and nerfs that plague these forums. Please bump and upvote to support so Bungie can see that there is a knowledgeable and reasonable community that wants the best for the world of Destiny! Edit: Seems like lots of agreement so far, but don't be shy if you have more to add or want to contribute to the idea! Thank you all for the support, we're off to a good start! Edit: Already made it to TRENDING! Thank you everyone so far for the input, let's keep it going! Also, I love the counter-points so let's hear it! Edit: Wow guys! I left work, went out to dinner, and came back to FIFTY MORE UPVOTES!!! I'll do my best to respond to all of the comments that provided some larger feedback or opposing views, but big thanks to everyone who's come and contributed. EDIT FOR RESPONSES: Okay everyone, so in particular, I am finding the best arguments against this that the raids should be setup as a progression rather than all raids being moved to max level at some point. I find it hard to disagree with this view as well, but the problem I see is that Bungie so far has made it seem that they don't want it to work that way, just based on vendor gear alone. Now if that was to change I would have to think that a progression would make sense. Part of me still would love all raids as endgame, but I wouldn't complain if it was set up the other way. At least we all seem to agree that in current state it needs some work! MORE!: To those who are worried that raising the cap of VoG would hurt Bungie's ability to continue to sell the new content, we've had some more good ideas discussed. For players who don't buy the new DLC, the raids don't change. However, in our current situation, those who defeat Crota would receive a token that would let them go back and "upgrade" VoG to max level. Seems legit! Top 3 Trending Topic, thank you everyone! Growing Pains: A few comments now in regards to what happens when there are 4-5 raids to complete each week? Does this not become overwhelming for players and there be too much to do? To that I say this: Right now, Destiny is VERY completionist because there is so little relevant content to actually do. If there were 4-5 raids available, each dropping top tier content, but simply with different choices for perks, styles, etc, then maybe players wouldn't feel the NEED to rip through 100% of all available areas. Some would, yes. Others may work through 1 raid at a time until they've gotten everything they want out of it, and then move on to master the next one. It's hard for me to say that adding this variety for players at endgame would be a bad thing just because of the notion that players should always be able to completely clear all content on a weekly basis. Thank you, thank you, thank you: Thank, YOU. Lots of great arguments here from everyone on both sides. Lots of awesome compromises, and great insight. I'm not going to keep adding infinite edits like some posts, but I will continue to remain part of the conversations that are going on because I definitely think we're onto something. Thank you again to everyone for the support, and please continue to share with your friends for more upvotes so Bungie looks at this closely. Fight on, Guardians! PS - At about 400 upvotes and over 300 comments, I really hope DeeJ gets to read this when he gets back. Some awesome ideas from everyone. Edit: Anyone think that now with VoG dropping v2 exotics, that is enough "relevance"? I'm happy about the change, but not completely. Edit: Keep this bumped for DeeJ! TLDR: Great ideas from all around. Either make max level versions of old raids available to those who have already completed the latest raid (keeps non-DLC purchasers out of end game as business model intended), or correct vendor gear issue so that it never surpasses raid quality gear (forces natural progression of content). Pros and cons to all arguments of course, but it's been a great discussion. Keep the bumps comin! (Thanks to everyone for the continued bumps.) HoW Update: SUPER excited for House of Wolves. Love all the new info. Looks like we may get upgraded VoG weapons and gear at some point following the release. If that happens then I see no need for a third raid. We would still get 2 at max level AND have a 3 player horde Arena mode. LOVE this. Slow but steady, Bungie.

  • What they can do is release a new "tier" for the hardcore players. This tier will be upgraded every DLC. For now we can call it "hell" mode. This would further increase light lv/ weapon damage on all armor/guns. The only caught is you would need to start from VOG and progress through the raids. (VOG, CE, Arena, whatever is next, ect ect) The enemies actually scale up a level after each SECTION instead of raid. (IE: you complete the opening of the vault (what would have to be phased in this difficultly) and the enemies in the next section of the raid are 1 level higher.) This will really make it feel like a "progression" vs just face rolling the raid the first day it comes out.

  • Interesting, but to make it easier to agree with and harder to argue against, I would think they could just add another difficulty tier to it and have the max gear only available within that difficulty of the raid. So, for example, add a level 33 VoG raid and that gives the same gear as the other VoG raids, but the difference is that it has stats similar to the Crota Raid Gear (can get you to level 32 light). Then when HoW comes out, add a new difficulty to both VoG and Crota's End that rewards you with the respective gear for each raid, at new max level. Thoughts? Concerns? Screw it, do it Bungie!

    • Your post is TL:DR. Here is my opinion on this. If Bungie makes every raid relevant it will create a trend of most players doing the easiest raid. Thus making the harder raids irrelevant. I can beat the crota raid in 30 minutes, VOG takes my team about 90 minutes. This means if I had 3 raid ready characters I could complete my weekly raid on all my characters in 90 minutes doing the crota raid... The fact is it will never happen. Bungie wants to make money. If they make the vanilla raid relevant they are giving people zero incentive to purchase their DLCs.

      • they'll keep them relevant.. but they need more raids before they can implement a system that is fair and works well. I've reached the concept of (when the comet drops) introducing exotic raids. Using all of the non current raids (so you'll have 3) have it on a monthly rotation. very similar to nightfall but monthly. cycling through the 3 raids. each month the exotic raid has a random selection of all the modifiers. so you can have burns juggle, angry.. all that jazz. you can only run it for rewards once a month. All raid armor and weapons dropped from that monthly exotic raid are scaled to current max levels. with a guaranteed exotic drop upon completion. and the level of the raid will obviously be scaled to probably at or one level below the level cap.

        • We get all strikes at level 26 and receive gear that is decent for a level 26. Makes sense to have all raids at max level and have max level gear. Buuump

        • In my opinion this is THE most important thing Bungie need to change. My clan and I love VoG. Much more than Crota. And while we do run it for fun we want some type of progression end goal in place to keep us interested. One to two raids to run at any given time sucks. For the people at the end game, to be able to run every raid every week would be so awesome and give us MUCH more to do at these higher levels. Maybe allow each new expansion to unlock the new current level version of each raid. That way people have to buy the expansions to be able to play VoG at level 33, for instance. Please Bungie fix this. The raids are all we have at the end game and if we only have one viable raid to run at a time it really only means we need to get on one night a week. I want to run every raid each week! BUMP.

        • I believe vanguard armor should change every dlc, but stay at light level 27. This makes it to where you must do a raid. Also, it should be required to do the raids as a stepping ladder, by doing vault of glass first, then crota, so on and so on. Once you have beaten the highest difficulty for the raid after the previous one, beating crota on hard, you would then unlock a higher difficulty for the previous raid, vault of glass. From this new higher difficulty would be the only way to obtain that gear at a higher level. Once house of wolves releases, completing the raid on hard would then unlock yet another difficulty for VoG, and then another for Crota, keeping that distinction amongst players. That's what I think should happen, as it requires all raids to be done in order to become max level or even past level 29.

        • I think the vendor AND raid gear should rise with every DLC, but the current raid or iron banner should be the only way to reach high possible level. the VoG was the only way to reach 30 and CE is the only way to reach 32.

I see where everyone is coming from but instead of raising the lvl add modifiers like they do with the weekly and nightfall change the difficulty rating for the raids from normal to easy and then normal and the modified ones to hard and when new raids release add a new modifier. Edit: when I say Change the difficulty rating I mean just the wording because everyone should know a raid will be hard on any difficulty. Or call it nightfall difficulty And the better gear from the vendors you would need a token to unlock the better gear or needing to beat the previous raid to enter the next that way it keeps new player from skiping over the weaker raids and let's them gain the experience the veterans have from them

        • At this point with vendor gear getting you to 30 (31?), I agree that VoG should be kept relevant in terms of armor and even weapons. After a certain point, however, I feel that it needs to be left alone. Like in other mmos, the best gear is only attained after beating the most difficult aspect of a game. If every raid drops (effectively) the same gear and one raid seems easier than another, there's no real incentive to play the other raids. I realize that Destiny isn't your regular mmo, and that a lot more content is required for my argument to hold viability. So for now, your post makes absolute sense. I feel like that plan would have to change eventually, though. Solid post, great base for discussion!

        • Personally I think the VoG weapons staying 300 is fine. However, I do agree that the VoG Raid needs to stay relevant. I feel that all Vendor gear should ONLY allow you to get to light level 30. VoG need to be moved from a level 26/30 instance to a 27/31 instance. VoG armor would then allow you to hit light level 31. Leave Crota's end alone. This to me, would now force a player to play VoG is they want to be relevant in CE Raid. Also keep the fact that needing Ascendant Materials is relevant. It keeps a progression with this game. Going from light levels 1-20, then 20-30, 31 and finally 32 with Crota. It should not be a thing to just buy this game, do bounties and strikes to hit level 31 with vendor stuff and basically skip VoG all together (a person can get plenty of materials from dailies, weeklies and nightfalls).

          • Why not do what other mmo's do and make each raid completion give you tokens. Every raid is equal in level and gives tokens for it's own vendor in the tower. After a certain number of tokens, you can buy some gear from the vendor. Then make the drops from the raid roll on a perk table like every other weapon in the game. This way you can get unique and better versions as drops if you're lucky, but you can get full raid gear just by finishing the raid every week. This removes the dodgy rng from the equation when It comes to getting to max level. But it also rewards dumb luck just like now with drops from bosses that could be better than what you can buy if you get lucky.
