This is the only memory I have from when I was three years old. I was living in Richmond, Virginia. I was up in my room playing with my toys when this little girl came up the stairs. She had one of those lace up dresses they wore in the 1800's. So she came up the stay and says, "Want to play"? Being young and naive and bored I said yes. We played with my Thomas the Tank Engine toys for awhile and had fun. Then my Mom came up the stairs and said "Who are you playing with"? At this point the little girl was behind me so my Mon couldn't see. I'm playing with this girl. I turn around and she's gone. My dad was cleaning out our fire place and at the moment he said "Honey come down here. Look what I found"! Keep in mind that this was a house built in the 1800's. Well my dad had found an old wood box. In the box were two pictures and a dusty old diary. One picture was of a family showing the parents and three children. Two boys and a girl. My Dad opened the diary and started flipping through it. He stopped at the last entry. It read this word for word. "To my beloved family. I have been sick for many weeks and feel myself growing weaker with every passing second. I want you all. To know I love you all dearly and am very thankful for all the care you have given me. I know things have been tough but you all are strong and can move on in life even if it is without me. I wish I could have lived longer with you all and seen my life through but it looks like that will not be. If God wants me in heaven I will go there. Do not mourn my passing but celebrate my life. That is my final request from you. Your beloved daughter, Carrie To this day I'm still shaken to the core from that experience. My parents did a little digging and found out the family was ravaged by influenza. I can remember as if it was yesterday. You may not believe me but I'm not kidding. Think what you will but this is true.
