I'm gonna keep it simple.
1: Before anyone tells me to fu*k off and just buy it, I have the DLC.
2: It's still unfair to have DLC rotations in the main Nightfall/.Weekly strikes and having JUST DLC Items with Xur, since that EFFECTIVELY locks non DLC players out until the next week at least, maybe longer depending on randomness factors.
For fuc*k's sake Guardians, where's your sense of empathy? How would you feel if you brought your favorite game, and then for ANY reason content was taken out of it? Cheated. That's what people feel right now.
If you want to support the game, i get it. But supporting the game should be a OPTION not a NECESSITY.
If you have the DLC but still think it unfair, say so and like.
Edit: Note: I have seen the odd forum comment saying either the content was not removed or that you should not get stuff free that is in DLC.
1: The content that was there effectively was removed for Non DLC owners. It may still exist but what was once there can no longer be accessed without payment. This is tantamount to removing it.
2: By all means, have stuff like map's strike,s raids ETC be kept in the DLC. I'm not saying it should be free, far from it. What I am saying is that items and quests from it should be removed from rotation or put in another rotation or something along that nature. (;
EDIT 2: To all those providing legitimate arguments defending it, thank you. I don't mind debating a fair argument and I appreciate the thought and effort behind your posts. I will also acknowledge that the issue is not as simple as it may seem, but it IS a issue. To those just outright being derogatory, you are not helping anything and I'd appreciate it if you be so kind as to either not post, or think about your post and provide a fair argument. For example, one person made the argument that it's only a 1/5 chance and that non DLC owners get more then you would think. A fair point and I will grant the free content point. However, when all the DLC launches and it's a half and half chance for Nightfall, what then?
Edit 3: I have seen the argument that Bungie needs the money to run the servers. I agree with this. At no point have I suggested the content be made free. However I disagree with the notion that Bungie needs to make money and the only way to do that is to make people buy DLC. The best option is to make people want your DLC, and there are other, better ways of making people want the DLC then to lock stuff off. Even if you argue that there is not, it most definitely is not consumer friendly and consumer relations is a important aspect of business. You burn all that good will you will find less buyers.
Edit 4: I have said it before but will do so again: I AM NOT SAYING THE DLC SHOULD BE FREE. Bungie needs to earn money for servers and the like., I'm saying the vanilla game should not be locked off. There is a difference.7
Edit 5: Okay, to all those people pointing out it's not locked out, changed the wording to explain it better.
Edit 6: For those who compare this to map packs in CoD, I have this to say: There is a difference between maps and modes.
A map in Destiny terms would be something like the Strike. This is content from the DLC and you should have to pay for it.
HOWEVER, Nightfall strikes, or weekly strikes are a mode like Deathmatch or Campaign, and should be available to all, especially if it was there to begin with.
Edit 7: i heard a good point for this:
I absolutely agree. We have 5 strike playlists. 18, 20, 22, 24, 26. Would it have been so difficult to add a second Nightfall/Weekly playlist? Even if it only appeared when DLC content was the Daily/Weekly/Nightfall. DLC players get to choose what they want to do, which ultimately makes them better off. If they want to run Will of Crota, they run Will of Crota. If they would rather run Devil's Lair, which happens to be the option for Vanilla players that week, they pick Devil's Lair. Same for the Daily story. If the Story is Fist of Crota, and you want some spinmetal, go for it. If the the vanilla option is Exclusion Zone, then the DLC player could choose to run that for Relic Iron. DLC players do not lose anything from this, they actually gain the ability to choose, thus providing an INCENTIVE to buy the DLC, not FORCING us to buy DLC or be locked out of content. We will almost never complain about being offered a choice. Choices let us tailor our experience to suit our own needs. I don't understand why DLC owners (Yes, I have the Season Pass,) complain that adding a separate playlist will undermine the value of the DLC they purchased. It can only make their experience better.
Edit 8: For those curious what I thinkk of the Rest of the Dark Below, I have attempted to make a fair analysis of the DLC as a whole here. http://www.bungie.net/en/Forum/Post/89455156/0/0/1 Rather then critiquing mine, I hope you will post your own details analysis on The Dark Below.

1 ReplyI agree. NF/WH/DH should not be locked out for non dlc owners. If anything, dlc owners should get both a dlc and the non dlc strike/mission when they have dlc content as the strikes/missions. To those saying that they already have non owners free gear... They raised the level cap across the board. They had to do that for all vendor merchandise. Being available for non dlc owners isnt Bungie being generous, it just would have meant more work for them to differentiate between the gear sold. Giving dlc owners 2x the strikes/missions when dlc strikes are chosen gives even more incentive to but dlc than locking out with less hostility.

1 ReplyThey're are total dicks for ever even locking them out! Who the -blam!- thinks it's a good idea to go and take away features originally included with their purchase!?
-
I had the DLC since day one. I got on to play the new missions and the first thing I noticed was that the weekly/nightfall was the omnigul strike. My reaction was: "Dude....so if you don't have the DLC you can't do the nightfall this week? That's fuuuuuuckked up!"
-
easy solution: ADD content and story to the dlc and more players will buy it.. problem solved.. and by "more" i mean 10 TIMES MORE... the game is lacking furthermost one thing and thats Content.. (on second its diversity and options)

Edited by Killercs: 1/4/2015 7:00:43 PMPLAIN AND SIMPLE the dlc for the weekly is just a way to goad people into buying the expansion. I personally think it sucks because it it forcing people to basically buy the game and then rebuy the game to keep playing the full version and when the next dlc comes out it will be even worse for players without the first one. Also anyone notice that its the only season pass that only gives you 2 expansions? And both are fairly weak expansions the third is supposed to be huge but you will have to pay yet another fee for it so by sept. The game will require up to 4 purchases for people to play. And for you stop crying or quit playing idiots just remember your words when you actually have to pay again because your destiny special edition no longer gets you the new content. ITS A GAME AND IS TO BE PLAYED FOR JOY! Kinda takes away the joy for those that had to save for a year to buy a next gen then pay monthly for ps plus and now every few months for the ability to participate in the game. Also for the argument of money to run servers? You dont think the 100,000,000 dollars made from sales wont pay to run automated servers then you my friend are an idiot and gullible also another 20mill plus every 3 months for dlc and merch sales ontop for fanboys yeah the crappy servers are that expensive !

7 RepliesMy question is if they are charging approx £20 per dlc for the minimal content, how much will the comet dlc/expansion cost in September as there appears to be a lot more in that release

2 RepliesHonestly this DLC should be thought of in terns of an expansion. Would if be fair for those who purchased the expansion to not have if included in the end game activities? In all honesty if makes sense a company should cater to those who will actually spend money and help progress their product. Being upset because you chose to opt out is like being upset because you have to pay an initial fee to play this game (ie buy the game). I dont believe the nightfall is a random strike but still follows a pattern. If thats the case then 1 out of 6 weeks non dlc owners will not have access to the strike. We will see if this is correct as time progresses. Non dlc owners should be pretty thankful. It was gracious of bungie to allow then to get the upgraded weapons/armor....yet those same people refuse to be thankful of this and instead complain about the end game they cant play due to their decision on purchasing the expansion.
-
3 RepliesI wholeheartedly agree with you (and I also have the DLC). They bought the game under the impression that they would be able to have daily and weekly challenges. When DLC-only content is thrown into that mix, they are not getting those experiences. DLC should come with EXTRA stuff to do. Not just replacing the old stuff. I want to be able to do the nightfall AND something else. I want to be able to choose between running the non-DLC daily and the DLC daily that might have different rewards. When you buy extra content, it should really be EXTRA CONTENT, not just an overlay.

4 RepliesYou spend a lot of time explaining to the dull minds on this forum. It is touching
-
Yay another thread! Options 1. Buy the dlc. 2. Stop playing 3. Go stand up for yourself quietly in the corner.
-
Life isn't fair, stop taking things in this game for granted, watch the movie "the labyrinth" good example
-
Once again no content was "taken out"... Every mission and weapon prior to the dlc is still playable. The original content gave access to certain raids. Now there are more raids that a person who refuses to pay the dlc does not have access to. Stop saying content was cut because it simply wasn't.
-
3 RepliesThis is how I felt until I finally caved in and just got the DLC yesterday since I really wanted the hunter gauntlets xur is selling and I only had 10 strange coins, so I really needed to do the weekly. Well I get the DLC and weekly is still locked and says to complete eris' quest. Ok, fine. So I complete the three eris quests that she gives me. Go back to see that I'm still locked out of weekly and nightfall. WTF? Seriously? At this point I just say -blam!- it. First I'm strong armed by an unethical business practice and then when I finally acquiesce, I still have more bullshit hoops to needlessly jump through to get what I paid extra for. Just -blam!- it
-
A year later, with all the dlc content there as well, will be unplayable for none dlc owners. However after a year why not just buy the dlc? If you're still playing then you must love the game and so I see no reason not to buy it. And to all those who will say something along the lines of they can't afford or whatever, they can afford the game, the console, and the monthly subscription. If they can't afford the dlc they need to rethink what they're spending their limited incomes on.
-
1 ReplyThink about it a year later: The vanilla-game will be totally unplayable since there are dlc-activities 24/7.
-
As a season pass holder I feel bad for those that have opted out of getting it (for whatever reason). Lets be honest here, there is a limited number of end-game activities. You have a weekly/heroic strike and a raid that you can only do ONCE a week. Unless you are big into PvP (which, at least in this game, I am not) or you actually like grinding vanguard strikes over and over, there is little to do. And to be excluded out of any of those activities would be infuriating. I personally feel it was a big mistake to not add non-DLC weeklys and dailys for the non-DLC players. I think Bungie really hurt the part of their fanbase that was holding out for a while, rather than enticing them to buy the DLC.

This thread now comes with a personal Analysis of The Dark Below as a whole, free of charge! XD

Edited by Mute Spittah: 1/4/2015 6:47:07 AM1. I don't think that Xur should be in this game at all. If he had two different stocks per week, then players would have double access to easy exotics. Not good at all. Half and Half would still piss people off, so that wouldn't work. 2. The nightfall, weekly, and Xur are all events. Not necessary to the game, but there to enrich your experience. If you want to continue to access these events, then buy the dlc. The way I see it, you can continue to support the game and get access to these things, or you can stick with the base game and get access to the base content in return. TBH, 20 dollars is not a lot of money. If you can't afford it, then videogames aren't the best hobby. If you don't want to buy it because you don't want to support Bungie's BS, then stop playing entirely. Your lack of playing will be a far greater statement then than your lack of buying a dlc.
-
I read up til you said "empathy", and then I remembered I paid more for for content and suddenly don't feel bad anymore about DLC content in NF
-
I agree they should , at very least, give non dlc players alt nightfall and weekly heroic strikes
-
3 RepliesI have mentioned this a few times to my friends and they seem to agree...... One solution that could work is to randomize the Nightfall. When you enter Nightfall for the week you get random modifiers and a random strike. If you die and go to orbit, you get a totally new set of modifiers and a new strike. The new strike missions would not pop if anyone in the group does not have the DLC. This way it make the Nightfall somewhat more challenging and random. It also does not lock anyone out.
-
I own dlc and agree I feel like I shouldn't have bought dlc to support this stupidness
-
I completely agree, I have dlc as well but I don't want to see people locked out of missions, if they are going to do dlc as nightfall, they need to run. Second one for non dlc people
-
Frankly the dlc was done badly. Non buyers often get screwed by the weeklies and the buyers can't do the crucible match they got because they aren't thrown in to the regular rotation. The whole thing is just bad
-
I too have the dlc. The implementation of which is abysmal. I bought Halo games where the other Bungie put new maps and modes and such and yet play for those who did not buy them was not interfered with like it is here with this Bungie. This is a blatant if you want to play you pay $$$ grab. Solution? Make the game a subscription base. This is probably going to happen anyway. However I for one would not pay and move on to other games Like TMCC or Halo 5.
