I just don't see the point... For mobs they're already dead, for bosses the dps on the solar ain't as good as cluster bombs so what's the point? Dragons Breathe seems pretty crap

15 RepliesCrowd control. This is an excerpt from an earlier post of mine: Dragon's Breathe is awesome for crowd control on Crota's End. Finishing off the swordbearer with a DB rocket leaves a solar flare which enemies refuse to enter. This means that whoever is picking up the sword never has to worry about cursed thrall attacking from around a corner. Want to make killing the deathsinger easy? Pop three solar flares in the middle room to clear out all the adds and keep them out. Everyone go in and shotgun/fusion rifle her ass. What's that, you're trying to keep the bridge up from the other side and a gatekeeper is owning your ass while you wait for the sword guy to come across? Jump straight up and shoot a rocket below you. Now watch as the gatekeeper cowers from your flames. Gjallahorn is awesome, but the crowd control offered by DB in conjunction with AoE grenades is incredible. Always nice to have at least one guy on the team with it.

Its for battlefield control. Fire into a hallway or corridor. Kills all mobs and then blocks entrance for others mobs coming in allowing you to funnel them into a bottle neck

1 ReplyHere is the best answer Bungie is trying to rub it in our faces that they fixed the Atheon cheese attempt by pushing him of the edge by giving an item that is PERFECT for that occasion.

4 RepliesYou're a sunslinger warlock you should know better! 7 solar grenades during radiance (6 is extra with radiant will or 7 with gift of the sun) and you have a rocket launcher that can fire 3 more solar grenades! That's 10 solar grenades! Add sun breaker gauntlets and touch of flame and those bosses will be in the presence of a Sun God!!

For crowd control on mob spawn points, or objectives in crucible.

1 ReplyIts also amazing at taking down slow to non moving targets such as shriekers

Blow shit up? I don't know.

This weapon was designed by the al-qaida. When a rocket isn't enuf strap a grenade to it. Yallah Yallah. Al-habibi al-habibi.
-
It sounds like it would come in handy when all those thrall are coming at you in the beginning of CE
-
Cluster bombs are not even that great either. Against bosses, the clusters spread too far out away from bosses. Clusters against a group of mobs is decent, but a grenade is enough to clear out a group. Most of the time, you guys are using rockets solely against yellow barred enemies

Stagger enemies in it to damage them further For enemies that don't move or are mobile, damage them further Use as a momentary barrier between yourself and certain...enemies

13 RepliesPoor guy doesn't know the secrets of this game. Try and think a little harder. I'll give you a hint.
think about what the solar flare DOESNT damage
That's your only hint

1. It keeps hordes at bay until reload. 2. Shoot it at upcoming lamps. 3. Fire it at swordbearer and solar last long enough to run through and grab without hordes coming at you.

Apart from all the good points below, how about this one. Devil walkers.
-
It works really well when used on Devil Walkers. Maybe be more useful when House of Wolves comes out?
