i wrecked in quake 3: arena and team arena. mouse> controller imho.
edit: it may have to do with the fact that we use a mouse in our daily lives more than an analog joystick.

Ditto. Q3A has to be one of the best competitive deathmatch FFA shooters of all time. Great map design, great weapon balance and powerups. I even played the browser version Quake Online for a fair while, years after Q3A came out. ID Software made fantastic games.
