Destiny NEEDS a Healer Subclass

(Don't worry, this thread isn't about bashing the Sunsinger, read the title; and please, keep the insults about my mother light :) ) Lately people have been bashing the usefulness of the Sunsinger warlock subclass... And I can't help but go along with it. When I knew I was getting Destiny, I did my research on the Warlock subclasses, as I knew I wanted to be a warlock ever since that first e3 vidoc. Now when I first saw the name "Sunsinger" I immediately thought "Oh, so it's like a healer?". If you ask me that's what the Sunsinger sub should've been all along, a Healer, not some boring old grenade spammer. And the more I think about it the more I see this subclass fitting into the world of Destiny. [Other MMOers and RPGers can understand what I'm going through here, honestly, why is it Destiny try's to act like an RPG but doesn't actually do anything RPG-wise; but I suppose that's a conversation for a later day.] Here are my ideas on the subject: The warlock's melee would, when hitting a teammate, take off a portion of their super energy in addition to melee, but heal the player from a distance. The Warlock's super would create a ring around the caster that, when a teammate would step in, would increase health regeneration by 20-30%. This Ring, unlike the Ward, would follow the caster but he himself would not heal any faster as to keep things on an even playing field. Perhaps this might seem overpowered to you other classes, but just stay with me here for a moment. Isn't the Suros op? Would you argue the Titan Ward is op? With the right amount of fine tuning I believe bungie could do this for a fix on the Sunsinger (In my opinion, and other mmo/RPG players what it properly should be); or gift this to another class, for future DLC maybe? Or better yet! As a free piece of content for Bungie's loyal fanbase! (Yeah... That'll happen) For those of you who actually want to help your team in addition to also getting kills (I know there has to be Some of you out there!) this could be a worthy addition to a coming DLC that I would love to take part in! TL:DR
New Healer Subclass Addition • Melee directly heals Teammates (Still damages enemies) • Super creates a "Ring of Healing" that increases Health Regeneration much faster by 20-30% and follows the caster (Does not affect caster, no faster health rejuvenation) -New Subclass could be proper way to substitute Sunsinger Conundrum or Add a new future subclass for DLC.
Edit 1: Okay, I can understand why people wouldn't want this. You came from call of duty, never played an MMO, have no sense of team, only play deatmatch, and have never played a good Blood Gulch CTF game in your entire life. If your one of those people then I get it. But I don't understand it. Destiny isn't exactly encouraging solo-play, so idk. You have fun lone-wolfing it. Although that term is probably lost with Reach. Edit 2: The "Ring" is a concept I borrowed from Skyrim (A fantastic game for ALL Rpg players) where you can cast a magic protective ring around yourself that heals you and keeps enemies out (Don't remember what it's called, I'll look it up later). Obviously I left the "keeping people out part" for balance but the basic principles are all still there. (I know this didn't originate in skyrim, but that's what I'm thinking of when I think of of a visual representation for the subclass) Edit 3: Wow! some great feedback here guys! Keep it up! Edit 4: Trending, wow! I'm going to be posting a response to the most common seen comments and criticisms and provide a link, or I could put it in a normal format other than that, idk. I'll think of something. Edit 5: I myself have a serious problem with the Orb system that Destiny presents. The orbs are produced but there is no visual indicator (beside some small lines of text in the corner of the screen). For one, the Sunsinger would be a viable subclass for me if there was just more of a visual representation of how your actually helping your teammates. 1. "Using a healer would be useless and would not fit into Destiny at all, and there would never be a situation where we would actually use this."
Obviously what we're talking about isn't a straight up in the most technical term "Healer", what we're discussing is some who can manipulate that period in your shields when they are completely down. That is our target picture where this would be useful. That being said, I do believe a "Healer", noting it as the term we've laid above would be useful and could base itself I'm the world of Destiny based on one simple fact, every player ALREADY has a regeneration factor that can be changed in your subclass with special perks. The super would manipulate this factor for everyone by a significant percent to essentially where they could keep shooting an enemy and regenerate much "health". When I think of when and where this could be useful I imagine myself behind that one door and pressure area we all know of in Blind Watch, the common Mars map in most game types. Say while a warlock is closer against the railing still shooting but behind cover the Titans could jump out of cover and shoot the enemy while he runs from the warlocks bullets, effectively earning the kill and the warlock gaining a support accomedation.
P.S- for anyone interested in a good group of friends to find for raiding and such, join us in the Xbox Clan: HolyHandGrenade.

In other MMORPGs, healers are useful because the tank and everyone else has 10k+ hp, with bosses meleeing for around 1-2k and doing an AoE that does 2k to all. Not to mention adds that periodically spawn. The health regen in these games is also slow when in the midst of battle, making healers necessary as potions have cooldown times. Destiny isn't like that. You have a bar of health that regens after a few seconds of receiving no damage. On top of that, the health we have is significantly small. There would be no point. There is also no tank, damage dealer, or crowd control class, so why would a healer be in this game. This is NOT an MMORPG, but a FPS with RPG aspects, just not raid/dungeon mechanics with a party of 8 typically requiring 1 tank, 5 damage dealers (some crowd control), and 2 healers. Destiny isn't that in depth. Edit: There is no way, without drastic changes, that this could be possible. Everyone uses guns in this game... No swords, shields, staves, maces, etc... No diversity. Each of these things have different uses for the different classes. Sword and shield for tanks to get aggro, keep it, and absorb damge, staves for all out damage dealing with spells using mana, mace for physical damage dealing, etc...

  • I think it would be easier to just have something like Song of Flame where all nearby teammates have increased health regeneration while your super is going. Some other possible perks: Extremely fast revives Other ways to speed up regen - grenade fountains, kills, meleeing teammates Increase damage, ability regen, reload speed, etc. Unfortunately there's only so much you can do with titans already taking extra defense/toughness.

    • This makes a lot of sense. Something like this implemented into the game would be great. This game claims to be an mmorpg but when I play I feel like I'm just playing another cod, or halo. The classes feel like they're not much different, it's not like having a balance of classes in a raid will help you. You could have 6 warlocks or 6 Titans and you would do just as well as if you had a even amount of each class. Great idea man.

I think the biggest thing people need to understand is that this game is not an mmo, FIRST AND FOREMOST THIS GAME IS A FIRST PERSON SHOOTER. Imo the perks between the 3 classes really don't make big difference, if anyone has played a real mmo such as wow or swtor you'll realize that this game really is about the skill of the player pulling the trigger, and not the perks his character has.

          • Ok after seeing your first edit... Not all came from call of duty some came from legit MMO games & shooters. Someone like me actually and someone like me would still say NO. Fist of all 90% of deaths are either completely avoidable as in either hey ya screwed up and got yourself killed or you just suck. Second a large amount of deaths are 1-2 shot like nightfall bosses hitting you with the burn modifier, crota one smacking sword carrier, atheon fight has plenty of full wipes. You don't need "healers" at all in this game. If you truely feel you do then you aren't very good I'm sorry to say it.

            • Destiny needs a lot of things but a healer is not one of them. How about an ammo synthesis hotkey instead of dancing and other gay ass shit? Or maybe the updates / DLC that dont render all of our gear obsolete? Less emphasis on leveling up weapons and gear... Hell why not log in and be able to do anything without having to farm stupid f***ing shards that you can only get once a f***ing week? Or maybe Destiny needs ejecting from our consoles, to be put back in until next year where it will take us a few weeks to catch up with everyone else? T

              • Instead of healing, how about a team revive perk instead of self revive? Think of it... Perk: Rising Sun Effects: When you are the last guardian standing, activating your super will revive your teammates automatically. It could work right? Thoughts, opinions, and criticism welcome.

                • Sunsingers are fine, you can't just change everything about a class. Maybe a new ARC warlock could be a healer or something. And Sunsingers are awesome, during radiance spamming fusions you can do waaay more damage than other super and create orbs just by shooting with normal guns. The REAL reason people bash Sunsingers cuz people sit on revive and don't use it aggressively as it should be used.

                • How about make Song of Flame for Sunsinger have teammates regen health faster? I would definitely use it more often if it did, or standing in a solar grenade starts health regen, I would love this.

                • Or everyone could equip armor that heals you on picking up or a of light, and run with a defender titan. I'm not giving you my super or melee charge so you can give me a bit of health. That's why I have recharge.

                • That wouldn't fit the play style of Destiny. I wouldn't mind a healing/buff subclass for Warlock but it would have to fit into Destiny's game design. Which is everyone shoots stuff. My idea would be a combat healer. Where the amount that you heal or buff teammates is directly related to the amount of damage you do.

The best defense is a good offense. The faster you kill mobs, the less damage they will do. That being said I would love an aoe res as a super. I don't die much and that would kick butt in a hard raid when your teammates are being dumb. Edit: perhaps a healing pulse grenade that does something strange to enemies in the area.

                • I would love to see something more along the lines of borderlands 2 siren harmony tree. Features several options for team support without totally sacrificing kill power.
