HELP! Thorn pvp tips needed.
Title says it all. I used this beast in the VOG like a champ, but I can't kill shit in pvp. My kd is usually positive, but I just finished a round 10/17 and it was painful. If you have any tips please leave them below. I need the help!
Edit: Just to be clear guys, I've already completed the bounty for Thorn. I own it. I was just looking for tips on how to get better with it in pvp. It seems distance was my biggest issue, and now that I'm keeping to mid range I'm doing better :) thanks all for your support.

5 RepliesYou have to focus hard on not panicking. Since those headshots are what makes it really shine you have to make sure that even when taking fire just stay focused and take that extra moment to land the headshots. Also distance is your friend. If you use the send it perk you can wreck snipers

2 RepliesNo better feeling than shooting someone a couple times and walking away to your next victim knowing they will die. No sense in sticking around for them to get a shot or grenade off on you. You will learn to watch their health and just know if the dot is going to finish them off or not. It will become instinct. Also shoot everyone. I know that sounds stupid but even if you have a bad shot where you would normally follow to line up a better shot. Pop a thorn in their ass and help a team are out and rack up some assist while your at it.

Dude, it happens. Enemies in PvE are more predictable than PvP. I'm a great PvP player myself, but can't seem to master hand cannons or shotguns in the crucible; I do much better with auto/scout rifles and fusion rifles.

I feel your pain, but remember if I can do it....LOL cause I suck at PvP. I got through it using AE, and Praedyths Revenge to snipe from a distance. I am also lucky to have a Steel Oracle a void launcher with 3rd eye and tracking. Was an absolute blessing for this bounty. Yes, I camped heavy ammo and would use Shadow Price to clear the area so I could get the heavy ammo, I know the kills didn't count toward my goal but was much easier to get kills with a "Real" rifle. LOL Good luck and remember as long as you are .5 or better you are making progress.

1 ReplyYou don't actually have to go positive to advance the bounty, you just need to be above like .70 k/d.. Just try to get one kill every time you spawn. Small steps

You need to know where your enemy is, how far away they are from you, and what the environment around them is like. You don't want to get close with the Thorn because shotguns and fusion rifles will kill you easy. You are keeping mid/long distance between you and your enemy ... auto/scout/sniper rifles are out classed by this gun at these ranges ... just keep strafing. Also use the environment around you ... passing between rocks or walls and only being out in the open long enough to get your shots off. Then you are taking cover accessing the situation (how close are you to the enemy know, how much health do they have left, what gun are they using, are they coming towards you/running away/hiding, etc). You might only need cover for a split second or you may need to wait for your shield to pop back up. Maybe Thorn's DoT will kill the enemy while you are covered; eventually you'll get a feel for that but a good rule is 2 headshots = dead and 3 regular shots = dead. Also note if there are multiple enemies focused on you and if you have teammates supporting you. Running away and regrouping with your team can sometimes be the smart option. I try to stick with my team unless I know an enemy is alone or I have the element of surprise. This all assumes that you have good aim with the Thorn. I did a lot of VoG with the Fatebringer before I felt comfortable using handguns in PvP. Good luck Guardian.

If you are precise, two quick head shots will drop anyone but you have to let the dot do its stuff. If your not all that accurate you can honestly just spam the thing and let aim assist crutch you into a kill, it's really that simple.

3 RepliesI'm not much of a PVP'er but that part of the bounty wasn't as bad as I thought it would be. It took me about 12-14 matches. I just stuck with a good fusion rifle, heavy maching gun and camped/defended the zones in control missions. If you can hold your own and stay around 1.0 k/d it won't take long. And if you get a couple of good matches in there with a 2.0+ k/d you'll jump up in points real quick. The last part of the bounty was a little tougher to solo. I ended up calling in some support for that part.

Mines set up with aggressive ballistics & perfect balance. If you've got it upgraded to the damage over time perk you'll get a lot of post mortem kills. Most important thing though.....head shots

Increase the stability, trust your instincts, hunt down your prey. Aim for the head 2 shots they K.O Or 1 head shot 2 body shots they K.O If you feel brave Nothing is scarier then someone that can hip Fire this weapon 3 chest shots and there dead It's a great anti sniping weapon so you can fall back and just steal kills from team mates or assist them but shooting someone first then dashing away to let your team take the kill.

4 RepliesShoot them in the head. 2 shots is a kill. With thorn you can hit them then walk away as the DOT perk takes care of the rest

3 RepliesPlay with TLW or another hand cannon that has a fast rate of fire, and use it to get used to working with hand cannons, then switch to thorn.

2 RepliesEdited by pollodiablo82: 12/31/2014 6:55:26 PMTry taking a more carefull approach of the battlefield, try to keep opponents a good distance away so you Dont get a Shotty in the face. If you tag your opponent with the mark and he runs, follow the 7's to see what way he is running and try to intercept him via another route. Dont go chasing someone by running directly behind them, they will know and will be waiting for you. In case of control, anticipate where the flow of opponents will go next (prolly the next open control point) find a good spot to be waiting for them and wait a moment for them to appear. Im short: position yourself tactfully at a distance, and use the mark to follow movements. And go for the double tap to the head if you can off course :) Edit: when waiting for your opponents in a good spot Dont forget to crouch :)

Aim for the head. Stick to long range. All those auto rifle noobs will cry when you get 2 headshots and they die from poison.
