Hi, I am a level 17 Lock, only been playing for 5 days, and when I play in the crucible, I notice high 20s or 30s/31s with a gold star next to their level, how does one get this? Sorry if this is a noobish thing to ask.

I didn't know we had stars next to our names....

2 RepliesThe star by a guardian's name is called a light level. You stop using XP to level up once you reach level 20. After this, certain armor gives you light, which levels you up past 20. Usually, armor with more light has better defense. It shows people how far along you have gotten in the game. Weapons don't contribute to your light level.

It's their light level. Once you get to level 20, you can only level up further through light found on gear. The star and the gold numbers signify that Someone is wearing armour that has light. For example, I'm a level 30 right now. To get to level 30, I need 120 light or 4 pieces of gear each containing 30 light. I can also wear gear that contains different amounts of light, but as long as it adds up to 120 light, I'll be a level 30. I hope I helped.

It's the "light" level of the character. After level 20 you have to find armor that has light attributed to continue leveling.

Difficult to explain but once you get to level 20 everything in the game will make sense. Keep fighting guardian!

It appears once you've gotten above level 20, by acquiring armor with light.
