Are we being punished for not buying the DLC?
So it's now the second week where the Nightfall and Heroic have been DLC exclusive; locking out all those who don't have it. And to be honest, i'm already sick of it. Every tuesday, I, and i'm sure a lot of people, look forward to complete the Nightfall and everything that's included in the weekly reset. But apparently we've been denied of that excitement once again. It's like we're being punished for not handing our money over for On-Disk DLC. It's not fair.
I refuse to pay £20 to people who are more and more seemingly to be money grabbing cheats. I used to love Bungie and Destiny, but that love is rapidly fading away. I'm not crying, just expressing my opinions and feelings. Does anybody else feel this way?
[b]Edit[/b]: *Got this to trending. Woo!* Anyway, reading the comments, most people are saying that I should just buy the DLC judging by how many hours i've played. (A lot). In some respects, I agree with this. As I said, the thing holding me back is that [i] part[/i] of the DLC is already on the disk. And the obvious question that follows is "Why would I pay for something I already own?". For those of you who are saying it's just gone Xmas, go buy it. After paying off a small debt, I literally don't have a pound to spare.
However, this has given me time to think and reflect, and it's sort of swaying my decision. Question is, if I wanted to buy it, I couldn't until I find a Job. One more thing, what's with all the hostility? God damn, i've seen better manners and behavior in a children's party. Chill guys, no need to get so angry.

1 ReplyI'm almost certain of this because I've grinder my little arse off Only legendarys for 34s like me is the strangers rifle but you can still get exotics if you buy the engrams off xur and decrypt them 2 multiplayer modes that no one plays 1 vanguard strike playlist Only allowed to go to the tower and the reef Basic story line only missions Max damage for any gun I've seen is 173 and armor is 170 No going into plague lands or oryx ship not even with dlc owners on a raid Only raid you can do is vault of oh wait no one plays it All vendors sell only level 40 stuff or level 36 stuff You get matched in strikes with only level 40s who got carried there by the dlc bs And your rewards are all level 20 rares Took me years it feels like to get a full set of Vanir armor Best gun is suros basic Only shaders come from the women in the speakery area Life in level 34 sucks because to get dlc I would have to pay 120nz dollars including the game as well only so you can no longer just buy the dlc 120 Nz dollars = 60 pounds And your surrounded by -blam!- who shit talk you online for being level 34 and somehow killing more enemy's than them Oh and faction drops and packages are all level 40 bs Only play for whatever fun I can still have Tired of this shit Xur appears 2/3 weeks in mountain so I can't get to him Tired of writing this Bungie and activision failed us People shouldn't get Insta carried to 40 because they all suck Level 34 takes skill and time and time and time Oh and no swords and no completing the subclasses because xp FOR EVERYTHING stops at 34 Need a poo now

14 RepliesI'm seeing a lot of people saying stop being cheap. seriously people grow up and understand the world you live in. What about people who 20 dollars is a lot of money to? We live in a day and age when even 20 dollars is a significant amount of money to many people. If 20 dollars is a pittance to you consider yourself fortunate. And another scenario: what about kids that are too young for a job and have parents that either financially cant spend 20 more dollars on the game or parents that reasonably think wait, i just spent 60 dollars on that game and now they want 20 more for access to a part I've already payed for? Also how many of you people saying stop being cheap are just teenagers whose parents have bought it all for them? Now i don't have the dlc and I don't mind at all not being able to use any of the stuff in it but bungie has effectively used the dlc to remove content from the core game. When the base game shipped everyone had access to the weeklys and now because they didn't cough up 20 more dollars they have had content from the vanilla game taken away from them. Imagine if you buy a gallon of milk from your grocer and the next day someone from that store comes to your house and offers to sell you a box of cereal. You say no but because you did, that person walks into your house, takes that gallon out of your fridge, and pours some of that gallon down your kitchen sink. Then they say if you wanted that milk you should've bought the cereal. You would be rightfully pissed. It's more than a little ridiculous to expect us vanilla people to be ok with them taking away a game mode we've already payed for. I've never loved destiny but i did originally find it an able shooter with plenty of fun to be had, but with the changes since the base game shipped it has become evident that all we, the consumers, are to them is a herd of cattle to be milked for everything we're dumb enough to pay; and by saying stop being cheap all you are doing is justifying their complete lack of respect for the consumer. And finally i just want to reiterate: my problem is not that I don't have access to the dlc, it is that i don't have access to content that originally shipped with the vanilla game i payed for and was ADVERTISED as a part of it.

1 ReplyIf you are still playing at this point you should own the DLC. If you are so upset about the game as to not want to buy DLC you should no longer be playing the game. Either way this shouldn't be a question.

I didn't buy the DLC initially, but the game is close to unplayable, no weekly heroic, nightfall, daily missions. It was either quit playing altogether, or buy the DLC , I got it a week ago. It was rather irritating to really only get 2 months play time, until you have to fork over 20 bucks DLC. Paywall. I feel your pain.

To start, it's just a game. While some choose to buy the dlc and play the new content you and some others chose not to. I bought a car without air conditioning even though it was an option. I can add it to my car, for adfitional cost, at anytime. On those hot days of summer when I'm sweating away I do not blame anyone for punishing me with heat. I chose and I accept the conditions of my choice. Could bungie make a separate playlist for those without the dlc, probably. Should they? That's up to them. Its their business and in business I'd expect them to make decisions that lead them to make money.

And i agree that this isnt right but we have more of a chance to get a DLC exclusive weekly/nightfall than getting an exotic in the nightfall itself (havnt gotten anything good in the nightfall for the past 4 weeks now :/). But remember its a 10 year franchise and we have expansion II coming soon and we all know that when it comes out the weeklys will be locked once again until we get the strike unlocked and like i said we have a better chance of getting a DLC only weekly's than anything good in the nightfall. Plus when xbox finally gets access to the psn timed exclusives theres a possibility that it might be DLC weekly only (undying mind) and if not that then dust palace but it will be undying mind later on down the road. Well its all up to you, you dont buy it thats fine, you still get new vanguard gear, weapons, new exotics (or atleast i think everyone gets new exotics), shaders, etc but not be able to do the new raid, get new raid weapons, raid gear, ships, emblems, grimoire cards (if your into that), missions, strikes, pvp maps/pvp modes, and DLC weekly's only.

I had no money, no car and a part time job and full college courses. 20$ is alot of money when you do not have it. I also bought vanilla because I have been burned to often with games that put out poor content. I have decided not to get the DLC yet because the game still does not keep me hooked. Maybe later when my Sparrow has guns and I can use my spaceship for anything other than just hovering over a planet.

Why would you only buy vanilla destiny. Its 10 year franchise if you say a you also need to get b c d e f g for full experience. If you dont have money gtfo of here you should not be playing video ganes but spend it on education or food

No reason to not have either had an alternative weekly & daily or even an extra one for the dlc owners as a carrot to upgrade rather than the stick. Then even when you have upgraded all you do is regrind to get to the point where you were before. No extra rewards for 30 dailies or 26 Roc strikes. An extra engram, shard and a couple more marks would have hardly been game breaking. No way to upgrade old legendaries. Or could have added 2.0 versions in rotation at the vendors. Would have been nice to have more guns and armor to choose from. Add a bit of variety to peoples guardians too. I'm in it until the season pass ends but they really need to rethink stuff before they get anymore money.

Destiny's/Activision's marketing team is very good at passively aggressively selling the dlc. Just wanted to note that the first week the DLC strikes were in rotation was the week the DLC released and now the 2nd week is the week right after xmas. Both weeks these strikes came into rotation, it was a week with extremely high traffic and an opportune time to make you feel 'left out' if you didnt own the DLC. Its a passive aggressive stance, and its designed to make you feel left out. Is it right? Is it wrong? Its debatable but its damn freaking effective as a marketing mechanism

I can see your point but I don't understand why you're still playing the game if you're not invested enough in it to drop 20 dollars or euros or whatever to progress with the game. I don't see the point. I stopped buying map packs for COD games once I was done playing it.

8 RepliesIts super frustrating to keep seeing these threads pop up. You did not lose any of the content you paid for. You can still do nightfall strikes UNLESS they are Omnigul, which is NOT content that you have paid for. If anything those of us who did buy the DLC have less to show for it because outside of raid gear, the new strike and the raid itself... all you complainers get the same updated gear that we paid for. If you want to play all of the content, including the ability to do EVERY nightfall, then go drop the $20. And being broke isnt a good reason. If you are a kid, use your christmas money, if you are an adult... its only $20, and if you are poor, you get a welfare check. Dont make your problems ours or complain that you dont get access to something YOU DIDNT CHOOSE to get access to.

I don't think punished is the right word. Every game I have ever played locked you out of new content unless you paid for it. No different here. RNGesus has control of the nightfall/ weekly. The new stuff is in the rotation. If you want to play it every week, you will have to drop some cash.

2 RepliesRaid Idea. What if the hive captured an Archon Priest and engulfed him in Darkness like they did to the Traveler Fragment in that one mission. As a raid we go in seeking to destroy this potential monster but we're to late and they finish this Hive infested Archon Priest. We fight it. 1. This Raid require a Raid teams of each sub class 2. Unlike other raids , the Raid team will be split in two. Each team will start in their own remote locations at the start of the raid to do their own missions/task. 3.This raid will take place in the world of the Hive, in order to get there the void walker warlock of the team will invade the Hellmouth to find a relic the Praxis Warlocks have discovered to be called a Philosopher Stone. The Warlock will have to fight it from the grips of high wizard called Excall, The Witch. This warlock will be accompanied by the Bladedancers Hunter and Defender Titan. * If Excall is not killed by the VoidWalker, then he will revive himself ( In a Weaker form) and become Burr, The Wizard.* 4. The Sunsinger Warlock, Gunslinger Hunter and Striker Titan will also invade the Hellmouth to The strike room in order to wait for the other team to finish. Only there's something wating. The Wizards have ressurected Phogoth ( sacrificing themselves actually by the compulsion of oryx) and he is now Phogoth, the reborn. This time he remembers his death by guardians and now he roars the name of Vengence. But he's also out of control. He attacks everything, Knights , Wizards , everything. In order to stop this new phogoth the guardians must attack him with their supers all at once. When both bosses are done. The Voidwalker will use the philosopher stone to transport His team to the Strike room, then surging up all his void power , he rips a hole in space and the team ventures to give world. 5. When we get to the Hive world we find it in a War zone. The Fallen have invaded the world and has laid sieged to the world. We fight through waves and both fallen and Hive as our Ghost work in Union to track the Archon priest. As we go along we discover how the fallen got there and discover a house of fallen even more powerful than we know. ( so powerful they took Mercury from the Cabal.) they want their second priest back. 6. As we get closer, we fight Kells and ultimately a Prime Servitor ( that's so badass that it fights High Knights And Lots of orges.) 7. We defeat them all and ultimately reach the archon priest who is Dark- infested and powerful. He battles Captains and Servitors , Knights and Acyeolytes. Then ultimately us 8. We fight him, purging him of his darkness by using a rotation of supers( which will be multiplied due to a mysterious power: the striker & defender will lead the attack by first fist of havocing which electrifies him is arc energy , the defender will then Pop a bubble and the hunters will take over. The Blade dancer will take on the archon in a melee battle as the gunslinger fires at him ( the gunslinger and blade dancer will strike as many times until the timer for them runs out) the staggering archon will then fall under wrath of the warlocks. The Voidwalker will send everything at him, grenades, melees, everything. The Voidwalker will also do so while nova bombing him continuously. This will be done 3 times. 9.After the third ,as we drop his Heath were suddenly stopped in place by a cloud of darkness. That lifts us, oryx appears and stops the war, he englifes the archon priest in darkness and the priest vanishes. Oryx turns to us and there's nothing we can do.... Until Toland appears. He hits Oryx with his own super and is revealed to be the force behind our super light in that world. He gives us his ghost and tells the Voidwalker ghost to use the philosopher stone to teleport them out. As we teleport we see Toland cloak in Bright light and face oryx.

Yes we are being punished, in a small way. Mostly they just want our money. I wonder how many players this week will see that they are blocked out of the weekly strike and proceed to purchase the DLC. That is what Bungie and Activision want.

People keep calling this DLC, but this is not that call it what it is this is a GAME EXPANSION! Meaning that it expanded upon the original game. Expecting them to keep the nightfall and other weekly events only on the vanilla version of the game is quite stupid to be honest. They added extra content and you don't want then to make the people that support the game by spending money on it feel like their getting their money's worth? Really? The vanilla is still very playable but with the addition of new strikes did you really think they would NEVER end up as Nightfall/Weekly? If so you are truly deluding yourself.
