So yes, I'm a total newbie to Destiny.. just started, just got to level 4. Not even sure I like the game all that much.
What makes it worse, I'm in like my 4th or 5th location (Russia, some level 4 story) and there is this level 20-something player who insists on hacking or shooting at me. WTF?
Am I not supposed to be playing in... well really the only area I'm even allowed in to progress in the game. Am I in someone's way that has been playing the game for months? Is this some elitist thing, or what gives?
Or is it possible I'm doing something wrong? Not "PC" in the game? Some unwritten rule I have no idea about being only my 2nd hour playing?

2 RepliesHe might have been doing a patrol mission that required him to kill a certain type of enemy and you might have been blocking the spawn point... He might have been trying to alert you to a nearby loot chest or material node... Most players that are willing to share a loot chest will try and alert you to its existence by pointing to it, if he was standing in one spot shooting at you waving pointing and dancing he was definitely trying to share with you. If he was following you around punching and shooting you he was just being a prick... In my experience 95% of players will try and share by pointing, if that fails they will shoot you a few times then wave or point again.. if that fails they will take it assuming you are not interested and they Will move on. But it could have been someone trying to troll you, there are a handfull of area's with higher lvl enemies (that newbs have access to) that some players might try and lure you to in the hopes you get rekt.

Because son, people are assholes.
-
There is a pretty good chance they are trying to let you know they are near a chest, that or they are messing with the xmas noobs.
-
Usually means move your arse hes trying to complete bounties
-
Probably directing you to the horny cave Captain in Moth yards.
-
I'm sure it has been said already, but it is likely they're trying to get your attention to point out a chest, material, or anything else.
-
He saw you were a low level player and was trying to show you something you should be watching fur, like materials such as, spin metal, helium coils, spirit bloom, relic iron, or loot chests. Don't be butthurt, be grateful.
-
People usually shoot at you when they wanna show you something like an upgrade material or a chest
-
Usually when I shoot at a guardian, especially a noob, it's to say "hey, you, yeh you noob, come grab this chest/spinmetal". 90% of guardians will be shooting at you for this reason. The other 10% are just ducks because you might have stole a kill from them or something, ie multi super kills or something like that.
-
Maybe the other players are trying to help you farm chests
-
Maybe he wanted to show you something
-
1 ReplyI shoot people to get their attention for a chest or material.

Generally people shoot at you to get your attention for a chest or material in the world. Or they are just a prick and shoot everything.
-
I shoot every mother-blam!-er I see, nothing personal.
-
Likely just some arsehole who thinks that when he spent $60 on the game he owns the entire Destiny universe and decided you had no right to be there...or as others said trying to show you something - although not sure what as there's not much to see really - and chests people find themselves soon enough after a good deal of grinding that inevitably comes. But sometimes guardians who are farming the same area - perhaps waiting for a public event - will just start shooting each other for the heck of it. Can be funny sometimes. There was a time on Venus I saw two guardians try to get up on a ledge (they did pretty well because I couldn't do it - but then I suck), and I lobbed a grenade up at them. I don't think it knocked them off, but they jumped down and started shooting at me. I jumped on my sparrow and they chased me. It was actually awesome fun trying to lose them. I was laughing my arse off, and I hope they were too.

Might be trying to show you something, like a chest. Or they're just idiots being idiots.
-
Generally if I shoot at someone I have something to show them, usually a chest. Though I try waving and pointing first the text cue can be easy to miss.

It's code. A double mele + shot to the face means something completely different to 3 shots to the body and a mele in the back. What exactly was he doing to you?

Edited by NiteStrangler: 12/30/2014 2:50:11 AMTo show a chest location, saying gtfo of my spawn point or just generalized hazing. Sometimes seeing something move wants to make people shoot it, don't panic, just point then sit down. Edit: I suck at typing on the phone
-
Maybe he was trying to initiate a game of guardian tag, and you weren't picking up on his advances
-
Prob was trying to show you a chest or material. I do the same, just trying to help lower levels
-
1 ReplyAs many other plays, it's usually a good thing, if they aren't just saying hello then they are trying to show you something.
-
A shame I didn't make this post myself when I was new, people shot at me a whole lot, I just ran away.
-
3 RepliesI tend to shoot other players to alert them of a chest that they may not see.
-
Most times, if another player shoots you, it's to let you know of a node of gatherable material or a chest near their location. We don't have any way of sending a quick message to other players so, this is what we have XD
