It's not cheating but in actuality it hurts you more then it helps you. Since the new raid knows when you got gear and what gear you got last you could just get all gauntlets from a week of raiding. Or all boots. See my point. With 3 separate you'll have a chance each week for new gear

I have 3 separate characters and I'm only 8 shards away from 32 plus have 50 energy and 3 raid pieces for my Hunter and titan combined.
