So this is just a theory not an absolute. I won't pretend to know the algorithm used to determine drops, but I do know a little about programming and RNG systems. Most, not all, RNG systems use a seed, a predetermined number to help randomize outcomes. This has a side effect of if the seed is the same those random patterns repeat. This may be why certain players can get the vex multiple times but can never get a ghorn. While another player has received 7 red deaths but the dream of a fatebringer will never be realized. Now some of you may cry they would never do that! But what keeps players playing? Constantly searching for that one weapon they will never have.
Tldr
Bungie uses your gt to generate a seed for drops so if you don't have a certain weapon you probably won't ever have it.

Edit1: I'm not saying gt is the only seed it's possible that it contains multiple factors.

3 RepliesThis could be true, but using your exact same theory, one could assume that your seed number changes daily, weekly, monthly ETC. Or you could assume that your seeded as per connection to the server. (This is the with the assumption that youre seeded per event, and not permanently to a never changing seed.) Once again, same theory, you could just assume that, yes, my seed never changes, but each drop stays at a percentage of X. (Assuming X is never 0, or it's a reasonable and not .5%.) You're theory is also flawed, because Xur completely screws up, what would be the perfect ploy to keep gamers going. Since Xur is the same across all players, the one gun you're never supposed to get, could be Plan C or Truth. Either way, I doubt the drop generator will ever be released by its creator.

2 RepliesEdited by Technesiss: 12/28/2014 4:46:11 PMI still think they are using a weighting RNG. For example Icebreaker and Ghorn are 1-10 and the rest of the exotics are 11-100. RNG picks a number between 1 and 100 then each exotic is numbered within their group. Icebreaker is 1 and Ghorn is 2 for example. RNG would need to pick a number between 1-10 and decide between 1 and 2. Due to the numbers being alot smaller between 1-10 is very unlikely for it pick a number within that range often. Well this is what I think for Xur but it could be possible for general drops.

I have had drop: Dragons Breath x1 No land beyond x1 VOC X2 Epilogue x1 Found verdict (x6) Praedyths revenge (x4) Helm of St 14 x2 (don't have a Titan) Armetarium x2 (don't have a Titan) Plan C x1 Mythoclast x3 Thunderlord X1 Hawkmoon x1 Mask of the third man X1 Lucky raspberry X1 Hezen vengeance x2 Time piece X1 Sunbreakers x3 Patience and time x1 Skull of Dire Amkarah x1 Truth x1 Black hammer x1 Light of the abyss X1 Monte Carlo x1 No Gjallahorn, Hardlight, fate bringer. I've had exotics drop from atheon 3 times (thunderlord p&t truth) and from an exotic chest only twice. I have had a legendary engram decide into an exotic twice in my time with the game - plan C and dragons breath. I still play with people who have never had the epilogue, VOC or revenge drop. I still play with people who have been playing since day one who don't have a single exotic.

I think it's legit But I have posted a few times that rng needs a check/balance I would pay zure /speaker or whomever a set amount of coins/motes of light to ensure a specific exotic(similar to a bounty) Example: mine is the vex I am 10 weeks strong trying Say I payed 20 coins and completes atheon on hard it would secure1 vex as a reward the others would be random Exotics are not really unique they are all the same their is no randomness to stats or perks. Hence no reforge So getting an exotic is its only unique aspect

1 ReplyI think the seed changes;however not very often. Example. The first month I played this game I could not get a voc, or raid helm. 3 characters doing hard and normal vog ever week for a month. Then all of a sudden I'm getting at least one, most of the time 2 helms per run, and a voc every other, seemingly. Then I had never gotten a vex. Now 3 weeks in a row I've gotten at least one, more often than not 2 vex from my 3 raids per week. Thoughts?

Edited by Neutrill: 12/28/2014 4:34:28 PMI've got every exotic weapon from a drop exactly one time except for the following Red Death: 0 Suros: 0 Vex: 0 Patience and Time: 5 Something must be up when every other exotic I get is that damn sniper rifle. I love my Fatebriger and always will, I just hope I'll be able to obtain Word of Crota (Void Hand Cannon) I think each item is just attached to a number. It's been confirmed that the drop is decided as soon as the final boss has been killed. It'll generate a random number and you get whatever is attached to it.

Preset RNG calculator decided your "luck" factor from the get go. Doesn't matter if you delete your toon or not, your stuck with it. Dungeons and Dragons, WoW, Neocron, and nameless other games use this on many online games. Sucks for some, a blessing for others.

Most seeds also include a current time. Making it more randomized.

I've heard this theory, but in all honestly, if you play game like this for a singular drop, you are gonna have a bad time. While yes a lot of people play this for the hunt, or a trophy room as it were. Been battling rngesus I guess since I was young, diablo 1,2 and 3, touchlight1,2 wow at one point. Multiple other platforms. One thing I realized through this method gaming is not expect anything while playing in areas that give decent loot. You will get stuff regardless. Group up with people you like, figure out the different ways to kill randel the vendel. And have fun. You may not have X, but you can do Y and Z to achieve a desirable outcome.
