Almost forgot about that one. I have heard about. A friend had told me it was really good. I should pick it up sometime. I enjoy Dark stories IMO makes it easier to get immersed for me.

  • If I can jump in, I really like Wheel of Time and Dresden Files. Great series, have some good length to them, and Dresden Files will be about a 20 book series (WoT is done with 14 books.)

  • Both are fantasy, WoT is a story which, at first, follows approximately 3-5 main characters. Essentially, there is a prophecy (of course) that foretells of a man called the Dragon Reborn, who will (maybe) fight against a dark god. The main three characters are three boys from a small village that is attacked by minions of said dark god, It's kind of difficult to summarize because it is about as long and eventually as complicated as real life, with incredibly realistic characters. The back of the first book, The Eye of the World, reads
The Wheel of Time turns and Ages come and go, leaving memories that become legend. Legend fades to myth, and even myth is long forgotten when the Age that gave it birth returns again. In the Third Age, an Age of Prophecy, the World and Time themselves hang in the balance. What was, what will be, and what is, may yet fall under the Shadow.
The Dresden Files is a series based on the life of modern day wizard Harry Dresden. Part murder mystery in the beginning, part typical I-am_wizard-hear-me-roar. It really hits its stride around book 4/5. The first book is Storm Front, and the description on the back is:
Harry Dresden is the best at what he does. Well, technically, he’s the only at what he does. So when the Chicago P.D. has a case that transcends mortal creativity or capability, they come to him for answers. For the “everyday” world is actually full of strange and magical things — and most of them don’t play well with humans. That’s where Harry comes in. Takes a wizard to catch a — well, whatever. There’s just one problem. Business, to put it mildly, stinks. So when the police bring him in to consult on a grisly double murder committed with black magic, Harry’s seeing dollar signs. But where there’s black magic, there’s a black mage behind it. And now that mage knows Harry’s name. And that’s when things start to get… interesting
Has lots of great references as well.

  • Just don't try to read the entire series all at once. It is a massive creation, and you can get bogged down in it (not all of it is actino packed, just like not all of life is. I've recommended to several friends, and most have tried to just read it back-to-back-to...-back, and they give up by book 6/7 (book 6 is about 900 actual pages in the paperback edition, over 1000 if you include the glossary and everything else after it.) Also, prologues are extremely important, as the author uses them to give you viewpoints he normally won't give (antagonists, introductions of characters who will later be important, etc.)
