Why is delta halo called delta halo... ?
2041PT says that he is the monitor of installation 05...
Yet he is on [b]delta[/b] halo... ?
Any ideas... ?

The military doesn't use all Greek letters. It uses SOME Greek letters in its communcations protocols. For instance, A is alpha, but B is bravo, C is charlie, etc. Here's all of them: Alpha Bravo Charlie Delta Echo Foxtrot Golf Hotel India Juliet Kilo Lima Mike November Oscar Papa Quebec Romeo Sierra Tango Uniform Victor Whiskey X-Ray Yankee Zulu

It's generally considered common knowledge that Bungie is crazy about the number 7. But the 7^3 (343) and 7^4 (2401) don't corrispond to their installation greek numbers. 343 is Alpha, and 2401 is Delta. Does anyone much about the letters significance or if the letters mean anything? Also, does the military when using Greek designations, do they use them in alphabetical order, or in a different order? Or perhaps it's another biblical reference. The first halo encountered happens to be Alpha Halo (Alpha = the beginning), and perhaps a 3rd Halo will be found and it will turn out to be Omega Halo (the end). I doubt that, but you never know. But if so, is Delta ever refered to as "the middle" or "a tangent?"

Well there is one thing that is clear. It was definately made before the one we played on in halo: combat evolved.

No one can, you find out in Halo 3. Speculation runs from that the Ark is a ship, the Ark is Earth, the Ark is something on Earth, the Ark is a device, etc. etc. So you are not a dumbass as you know as much about the Ark as anyone else.

Actually guys, the Greek system doesn't seem to represent numbers for Bungie. When you fight the heretic, 343 GS says that Halo Installation 04 (his installation from Halo 1) is Installation Alpha. Play it and listen for him to talk. Then Bungie calls Installation 05, Delta. As for the Ark counting as an installation, I find that weird. There are 7 halos, watch the end cutscene where 343 shows Keyes all of them. The ark, if an installation and part of teh halo system, would have probably been in the halogram. But even if the Ark was installation 01, that doesn't explain why installtion 04 is called Alpha.

yea there were 7, but ones destroyed so theres 6 now, making for 7 installations. oh and Arigas, we posted at like the same time b4 lol, so i didnt know you posted :P

Yup. Well, I guess that explains it. First Halo game, there were 7 known Installations, Halo 2, there were 6 Halo rings, and 1 Ark, for 7 installations. =P

look, installation and Halo are two different things, Earth is not a HALO is it? No therefore, if Earths Ark is installation 01, its not halo 01, its not a halo its just an installation, meaning that whatever halo is Alpha halo is the first Halo, there are 7 halos, but there are 8 installations get it?

Ok, the Halo in Halo 2 is the 4th Halo, hence Delta. Its the 5th installation, but only because the Ark is Installation 01. Just like the 1st Halo would've been Alpha Halo, or whatever, but would've been Installation 02. [Edited on 12/14/2004 7:30:28 AM]

I can understand what people are saying about the Ark being installation #1 and then the first halo is installation #2, but is called the alpha halo.. just seems a bit of a complex way of doing it... ?

still, level names dont actually mean anything in the storyline (ussually) but what someone said earlier makes sense, if the Ark is installation 01, then halo#4 might indeed be called delta halo(the 4th halo).

It is never called Delta Halo in the game. If you watch the DVD in the special edition set, everyone at Bungie calls it Delta Halo to specify between the two halos in the two different games.

I have heard some theories that the Ark is installation 01, therefore Halo #4 could be considered installation 05. Which would also help with 343 GS being on installation 04, but Halo #3 (7^3=343) and 2041 PT being on installation 05, but Halo #4 (7^4=2041).
