I was talking with my Fireteam about shaders and we came up with a really cool concept. Instead of buying completed shaders you can buy/earn shader pieces. A Primary (outer ring) secondary (second ring) and tertiary (middle ring) color so you can "craft" your own shaders. This would add a lot more character customization and help make every Guardian unique.
Now that I am aware that I can edit, time for some new additions that have been suggested/revised:
1. Current shaders could be kept in, they would just be as if we had crafted them. This way, nobody loses any of their favorites when the new system is implemented.
2. Shaders for Weapons, HUD elements, Ships, and Sparrows.
3. Using the Destiny app/Bungie.net to make shaders that can be picked up from "Special Orders" in the tower. (Big thanks to SlayerD131)
4. The different pieces will be held at the vendor/crafting station in the tower, this vendor will also act as a shader-only storage (freeing up space in the vault and inventory). You can carry your 9 shaders as normal but also can store them at the vendor. Pieces will NEVER be in your inventory and will always be immediately put in this vendor's storage.
5. Each piece will have different colors to them and rarities. Common will be Matte colors, Uncommon will be Metallic colors, Rare will be simple gradients, Legendary will be patterns that repeat themselves over their mapped area, Exotic will be shifting patterns (moving night sky, animated flames, etc.). Thanks to the commenters that helped make this idea possible!
6. Common: Level 5 requirement, Uncommon: Level 10, Rare: Level 15, Legendary/Exotic: Level 20. Shader part shop/crafting station available at level 5.
Keep up the great work Bungie! There has been an unbelievable amount of support and we might just get this put in someday soon, thank you everyone!
(Please stop commenting "bump", something like "cool idea" or "this should be added" or some feedback or even just what you want to do if this is added is preferable as it is much better and helpful than just "commenting to keep this on trending". Also, hitting that little up arrow above the number in the top-left corner is greatly appreciated.)

Great Ideas

2 RepliesNot in love with crafting system in gaming (minecraft, archeage, etc) but I wouldn't mind this one

Alot of the colors for ships are fairly ugly looking, especially the pastel orange and green legendary ships. I'd love to recolor them make them look as badass or ridiculous as I please, so here's a bump
-
I want this so much!

1 ReplyYes to the shaders on armor, but I'd keep the guns how they are... a blue 'red death' just doesn't do it for me!
-
I like this. This would be awesome. I am an artist and painting a bloody scene in a cool wardrobe is needed

3 RepliesHow about some more unusual funny one? Like a shader for your helmet that puts a chicken on your head? Or one for you chest that gives you translucent wings? Or one that gives the appearance your are constantly burning, like the Torch? Ok. So maybe the chicken is a bit much, but sometimes you want to look cool, and sometimes you just want to make others laugh...

Keep bumping

This needs to be implemented. It would be so awesome! I'd love this much more customization!

1 ReplyGreat idea. Another idea can be for the exotic shaders to have a grimoire card of their own and have a back story behind each.

I think thats an all around good idea, nice

Bump great idea

4 RepliesEdited by Tanecity: 3/25/2015 7:16:36 AMLevel requirements you listed don't make sense, because you have to be Level 20 to wear a shader. But outside of that this whole thing sounds awesome! Also I think all armor should be affected by shaders if we choose, and there could be a part of each armor upgrade tree that is pre-unlocked on all armors in the game that allows you to choose between having that armor affected by the shader or remain unaffected, which can be freely changed on the fly (similar to switching arc and solar damage on the Murmur, but in this case switching between whether or not a piece of armor will be affected by the shader.) this option would also be included in class items.

This is a great idea. I personally think more customization will encourage people to keep playing destiny. I love when a game let's you customize your character. You can create your own unique character that is different than everyone else and not the same thing that everyone has. We would all look different in our own customized way.

Destiny is a good game dude they could do so much more with it I just want diversity they need to add just a poop load of new armor pieces weapons shaders im tired of looking like every body else it's sad I wanna look different and be unique the shader idea u have is good making so many armor color possibilities but they also need to just add a whole lot of armor with max light lvl because I'm tired of having twins with different shaders who wouldn't want to start out

I'm so for this. It's very well thought out and would diversify players immensely. It's hard to disagree with any of it.

Sounds awesome
