Never thought I would say this but holy cow! It is way too easy to get into the raids now and the under-levelled weapons/lack of experience can be so frustrating.
Edit: I am talking about level 30 raids here. I would never talk this way about normal mode.
Edit 2: I am trying to be as un-elitist as possible, I will usually solo the nightfall each week and put a post up offering any lower levels who want to be pulled through, no problem, but the level 30 raids are a different animal!
Edit 3: Thank you to Cozyman Cam for this link explaining how a weapons attack affects your damage output in game http://www.bungie.net/en/Forum/Post/84047545/0/0/1
Edit 4: To the guy who is prattling on about getting 1188 kills in a single raid. This means
A. You were killing the endless mobs at the start to grow your e-penis.
B. You repeatedly wiped somewhere like the confluxes with your awful, underpowered weapon. 1188 kills in a single raid is something to be ashamed of.
Edit 5: This is not a discussion about gaming skill, some people are better than others and that's fine, this is a post about laziness, if you take a sub 300 weapon or no experience into a level 30 raid you are a selfish gamer, end of.
Edit 6: Hearing a level 31 say "Okay, so the three who can hold the relic get to the back of the arena, because that's who Atheon teleports." :-/
Edit 7: It is not cool to use The Last Word in a raid (I'm sure we can agree on that, at least)

It doesn't matter no one us guns in the raid...just cheese.

This thread is still around? Oh boy. Haven't seen edit 5. That takes the stupid cake.

A friend was telling me how he went to do VoG on his 28 with a maxed Ghorn, and they told him they couldn't carry him even though they had good weapons. He checked and they were all using blues, some not even DLC-tier.

I agree. The normal raid, I will help anyone threw and show them the ropes, but hard mode, is different. You use normal to figure out what to do. The mechanics. Then, with good weapons, and more important, experience, you can enter without being a liability. I get so tired of hearing "why am i contained!?!' or "theres a conflux in here?" or "why are the harpies exploding!?!" Please, know what you are doing. It can mean the difference of an hour raid, or a 5 hour raid. Or more often than not, never finishing. And please, talk. I cant believe when half the party has no mic on hard. Or worse, they have a mic, but wont talk.
-
I'm levelling my weapons God dammit lol
-
No one needs weapons anymore because every group I get in just cheeses the whole raid anyway, I have now reserved myself to running the raid only with my real life friends because I can't get in a group that actually wants to play the raid.

Give me your tears guardian. I will turn them into glimmer

Not everyone is an experienced raider at level 31 with all maxed weapons. Some people are just casual gamers like myself and we shouldn't be excluded or feel excluded by the people who play a lot.
-
Where is Dur when you need him?
-
The link regarding weapon damage is incorrect. You can actually test it yourself easily with 1.0 vs 2.0 maxed weapons that are exactly the same except for the damage modifier.

Been in 3 hard vog raids since this dlc came out & had to leave every one because they didn't know what they were doing, fake 30s boo
-
My 257 fatebringer wrecked this weeks nightfall
-
Hey, some of this is Bungies fault, people get legendary armor before they do weapons, and they are much more likely to buy armor to level up.
-
we don't accept people with weapons under 300 attack while doing the raid
-
I agree. The light level is more important but a little extra dps goes a long way.

Edited by SkintightJeebers: 12/22/2014 6:08:07 PMI think one of the issues here is people playing through the game and getting pulled through a nightfall or a weekly at a low level by a higher level gamer and expecting the raid to work the same way. Unfortunately it doesn't. Every man counts in a raid, and whilst I know that it is possible to 5/4/3/2 man, even solo parts of the raids, more often than not you rely on your team mates to have your back. Again I stress that all of this is less important on VOG normal, this is where players should cut their teeth and work out the mechanics before going into the level 30 raids. Everyone wants to have fun :)

These are the guys that want to "cheese" everything.

Had a few people wanting to do Crota on fresh. Two to three were noobs. I didn't mind helping them out. But none of the newbies had maxed weapons, one even had a scout rifle as their primary for the thrall part..... *face palm* I helped as best as I could but they couldn't make it to the bridge check point and none of them would listen to me. "Oh wow, a chick with all raid gear from Crota at level 31. She definitely had to of cheesed the whole thing! Lol" - said a random in party chat as I just joined. *additional face palm*
-
I agree. The other day I tried to fight Crota with a group that had really bad weapons (almost all completely un-upgraded) and being an invisible sword wielder I would watch Crota's shield and multiple times they were so bad at getting them down that the shield would just regenerate before they could take him down. So frustrating.

Joined 2 groups yesterday for hard raid both had 31 members with rare weapons and the first group had never even done it before. Lets just say it didnt end well.

I'm just too indecisive :/

I can't believe the amount of people who disagree with this. I'm waiting to 31 before i even attempt the raid. Its not him being an ass hole to some one with low level weapons. It is courtesy to every one in the raid you are joining. no reason to join and waste every ones time, and hope to be completely carried. Level your weapons, gear, watch a video then attempt it haha.
-
Guns must be leveled up, or the team will suffer. I will bounce out of a random group if players do not have guns to at least 300, if not one that is maxed out. I run bounties and strikes to level up a weapon before I try and use it for the raid. Playing with unleveled armor or guns is a waste of time. The team will not be able to complete the sections, and someone will ask "How do you cheese this part. It's too hard" Please level up your guns or don't go into the raid. Raids are about team work and DPS. Croata raid is not like VOG. Croata is all about firepower, speed, and staying alive.

Make sure you tell them which armor and class item they can use too!
