I DID NOT EARN RECON FOR THIS. Bungie gave me Recon for the second most kills in the Valentines Day Tournament.
Keep in mind:
I have a BRAND NEW tutorial, on a TOTTALY different trick! Check it out here!
Well, I was messing around with Forge and tried this idea I had out. It works pretty well. And it's really neat. It's a Gate, and you push a button to open it! Just like the Highground gate! Heres how you do it:
>>Video Tut.<<
Steps
1. Set up an area you want the gate to be placed in.
2. Put up a secured "gate" with 4 Weapon Holders supporting the back, and 2 supporting the front sides. You can do this by: placing the Weapon Holders on Crates, then deleting the Crate. / Or you could just use a Dumpster instead of a Barrier all together.
(Properties: Place on Start = Yes, Respawn Rate = Never, Instant Repsawn)
3. Place a "button" wherever you like. This will activate The gate.
(Properties: Place on Start = Yes, Respawn Rate = Never)
4. Place a Gravity Lift that is on a downward angle, being held by a Weapon Holder. Take note, it does NOT have to be on a Double Box. You may want to put this in a "Behind the Scenes" spot.
(Properties: Place on Start = Yes, Respawn Rate = Never)
5. Next, place a Fusion Coil directly over the Gravity Lift, about one Single Box above. Then delete the Single Box.
(Properties: Place on Start = No, Respawn Rate = 180, Runtime Minimum = 1)
6. Then, place a Gravity Lift aiming down at the "gate". Make sure the Gravity Lift is being held by a Weapon Holder. / Or, you could make the Gravity lift on a upward angle, then make a roof so the "gate" hits the top and sticks (this way the "debris" of tne "gate" isn't on the ground). You may want to set up walls around the "tube" the "gate" is sent up.
(Properties: Place on Start = No, Respawn Rate = 180, Runtime Minimum = 1)
7. You have finished the hard stuff! Now all you have to do is add a prize, such as: a Vehicle, a Weapon, a Flag, Access to more of the map, etc. Get creative, and have fun with it.
Make sure you ONLY have 2 Fusion Coils, and 2 Gravity Lifts on the map at any time.
How to use it:
1. Find your Button
2. Blow it up
3. The gate opens.
4. Run through it!
Keep in mind this works on any map. And It dosen't have to be Barriers for the "gate".
I have this map (right now) on my File Share. Also, I have a pre-built Gate with nothing around it, except the Button. Download it here.
Also, this Gravity Lift trick can be used to make lots of different thngs, like and elevator.
Posted by: DarkWraith417 yeah thats a pretty good idea, you could have more then 1 door and have that work also, shoot one to grav lift to open the other door etc. would be great for a maze break certain lifts to make it through, 4 doors is the max obviuosly, kool though. :)
Actualy two gates is the max. You need an activation lift as well as the lift that opens the gate. Also you cant have it open a particular gate.

Purty cool man

Hey, I used this idea and made a elevator. Thanks for this. I made a giant elevator map called elevator to heaven and tenpenny tower lobby(from fallout 3) using this idea.
-
Broken: after 3 minutes the gate will open anyhow. Even when the fusion coil isn't destroyed... Fix it please?
Posted by: moonj64 You actually do not need the behind the scenes grav lift or fusion coil if you don't mind an extra grav lift in the open on your map. and if you use dumpsters that fly up into a catching mechanism with no weapon holders you can make it so that a fusion coil will "close" gate. Here is a detailed explanation which I copied from another one of my forum posts. Just make a similer gate and catching mechanism and then put a scenery grav lift a few feet above the dumpsters using the floating objects method (this might be easier if you do this before putting in dumpsters). then you put a grav lift in a un-needed but accessible spot nearby. set the grav lift in the gate to not spawn at the start and with a long respawn time. then set the grav lift that is nearby to spawn at the start and a short respawn time. lastly set it so that the map must always have one grav lift on it (do this by highlighting a grav lift with your cursor, then pressing x twice and setting the run time minimum to one). then whenever someone shoots and destroys the nearby grav lift, the gate will open. Now for a way to make the gate close. to do this put some fusion coils near enough to the gate grav lift that they will destroy it when blown up and make a chain of exploding fusion coils to a point where they can be shot. then whenever the fusion coils are blown up, they will blow up the grav lift dropping the dumpsters back into place.
YEAH!...what this guuy said^^^^

Interesting. I wonder if it would be possible to make a Reverse Switch? Imagine (on Foundry) a custom powerup, in front of a barrier which is being pushed by a mancannon...(powerups stop barriers/mancannons) which could dissapear from another powerup? powerup(1) is holding barrier and powerup(2) is in a totally different room. Could it be possible to pick up powerup(2) and make powerup(1) dissapear? Do you think, you could glitch the map or something, to glitch the maximum option, just like the minimum value for switches...so that the Maximum would stay at 1, and at the beginning of the game, both power ups spawn, and when you pick one up, the other one is forced to move? LOL I have no idea..
