Bungie...you have a great opportunity here! Why would you not make the Iron Banner an exciting time in Destiny?
First off, we can't upgrade our Iron Banner weapons? Wth? Please at least apologize to all of us who busted our tail and wasted all that time to achieve these rewards. Not to mention the constant nagging from wives, all for nothing it seems.
We all know that the only way to get to 32 is to obtain raid gear playing PVE. The Iron Banner is the perfect format to offer those that don't like or can't do raids all the time, the same chance to obtain raid gear. I mean the game is called DESTINY...I should be able to reach 32 through PVP or PVE in my opinion, but both being equally challenging.
As a 31 Hunter, nothing in the IB (Iron Banner) is appealing to a wide majority of us. The best thing about it seems to be the sweet looking sniper, but I'm not about to work my tail off for days just to spend over 11k in glimmer for a freakin sniper with the IB logo slapped on it. And the Auto Rifle is the same, overpriced and a Dr. Nope with different crappy perks. So don't be surprised when NO ONE gets to rank 2.
Lord Salivate could offer a long quest, just like Eris, only valid through the IB week. At the end of the crucible quest, offer armor of raid equivalency or primary weapons with arc, void, or solar damage. I guarantee you that players would flock to the challenge. I just think you've missed an opportunity, and now this event is tarnished. It's fun playing without the caps, and I enjoy it, but it seems pointless for achieving a new reward. I'm disappointed I'll say, but the game is still awesome, still fun, and I'll continue to play. I just hope you'll consider a PVP path for players to take to achieve level 32 status.
**UPDATE**: For the ignorant who skim through this post, and are comparing the IB to the raid...your a moron. No one is saying that you should play this IB system and get raid gear. That's just retarded. What I propose is a very tough quest from Lord Salivate, much like Eris gave us a taste of, and make it gruelingly hard and time consuming. For instance "Kill 200 Guardians with a Sniper, landing the kill shot while invisible". Now imagine doing 12 of these during the week of IB. Obviously you would have to include DLC maps, because only DLC provides level 32. It would give people the option to grind to get a single raid equivalent weapon or armor piece. The End.

Edited by The GR8 Autismo: 12/16/2014 9:21:02 PMIn a week?? no Over the span of maybe 4-6 weeks?? yes That in correlation with difficult skill based bounties. Yes iron banner should be a pathway to 32.

4 RepliesNo it shouldn't IB is to easy to get the highest lvl
-
It probably will eventually be able to be used to upgrade your character to a higher lvl....just not immediately. You have to wait until the next DLC is almost out before they upgrade the armor most likely..
-
If anything, IMHO, The raid should get you the highest light level (32), but grinding through IB (which is not as difficult as teamwork in a raid that should maybe be a tad bit longer or harder) should get you a higher light level (31) than vangaurd gear (which shouldn't have been more than 30, so you could do the normal Crota raid)
-
I can agree only due to the fact that Bungie said there would be more ways than just the raid to get to 32. Where are these other ways they spoke of.
-
Except how would you upgrade the weapons and gear? The level 32 gear uses special materials you can only access with the DLC though the raid. Unless they locked IB off to only DLC owners, it would mean getting 32 would be done through crucible rather than raid, which defeats the design purpose.
-
Nope.

4 RepliesRaid gear is the only way to reach 32 because you can only raid once per week per character. If you opened up IB gear to get you there Bungie would have to set it so you only have a chance at armor once a week over multiple drops (like clearing raid CPs.) Raid gear is max to keep you grinding. PvP is something you can play 24/7 to grind up. You would need some sort of once a week RNG system that gave you a chance at gear. Doubtful you'll see it though, as you can solo grind PvP/IB. You need a team for the raid(limits or adds obstacles to even starting it). You have to complete the checkpoints for drops(You can grind to max in PvP/IB win or lose, so you would need to change a mechanic here). You have rewards that only give mats in the raid. Raid gear being the only way to achieve something increases the grind. Making PvP an alternate route to content cap would require mechanic changes that might just make it more tedious than the Raid itself. It'd be nice, but I doubt you'll see it. You might when it gets closer to the new DLC coming out, as a chance to give more players max level to start on the new DLC.

3 RepliesI talk about that exact thing right here: http://www.bungie.net/en/Forum/Post/84971086/0/0/1 I'm not a huge Crucible player, but people who are should have the option. IB is like Endgame to them. Why force them to do a type of endgame they don't like? Or at least, give them an alternative.

Only other path I seen was Iron banner whole reason I made a hunter and a titan
-
ok forget the crap dlc raid lets just keep it with vog raid so.... vog can be run in a nice hour but only once a week so if we go with 1 character only thats 1 reward per week and no set reward could be energy or shards cloaks or a gun or armor or the same thing week in week out. you need to match make yourself and post here or troll the tower. all be talking and working as a team and kill around 150 to 500 enemies depending on how long your sat on it. uses up ammo you need to buy and bring. it can take weeks to get full raid gear for me it was 21 completes for 1 guy pvp [worst pvp an most unskilled i have ever seen.... 41 in world for codwaw] match making dont need to talk to anyone work as a team just play earn xp and maybe do 100 kills or less for the bounties takes between 4-8 hours max and you get a week to play as much as you want after words you get gloves and boots and what ever else sitting there no ifs or but its your so you can buy all as much as you like lol it also lets you earn exp for guns and armor already on from the bounties you hand in. for me it was raid gear 45 hours of time thousands of kills and time looking for games 3 chest armor 1 gloves 2 boots and 5 guns VS pvp 4 hours for 3 sets of gloves 3 sets of boots and 2 guns an shaders that look better lol pvp is a joke
-
It's too early for that It will probably have light 36 gear next time
-
Well Iron banner before was raid quality gear and nout its regular vendor gear and the weapons are iffy but I will not waste my time in the iron banner
-
It will be. But not until the next one.
-
I like the idea of a long quest. I also wish that even the boots and gauntlets could reach 36 light while excluding chest and helm.
-
2 Replieshahaha, NOT GOING TO HAPPEN. Stop trying to have bungie hand you level 32 gear on a silver platter you filthy casuals !
-
5 RepliesBad idea. Because even rubbish players can level up IB rank and buy gear
-
Edited by Artesians: 12/16/2014 8:06:44 PMI kind of wish... That there was a Rumble version of Iron Banner. That way, we could earn IB 32 gear based on performance if they implemented some kind of event mark currency. Top 3 players earn marks with the 1st place earning more tokens. For any of you who think it's too punishing, it's Iron Banner, like the Raid is for top tier PvE, Iron Banner is top tier PvP, like the Trials of Osiris.
-
Iron banner 32= way too -blam!-en easy
-
Not in this event....to early - maybe first week of new year or week before hard mode released
-
Agree... I have always thought it was stupid to have raid gear be the only path to the highest level..... You want to make raid specific weapons fine. The weapons in the first raid were great it was the only way to obtain primary's with elemental damage. That is a raid drop I can get on board with. But making only one level 32 armor set is both lazy and stupid. It doesnt feel like a reward, it doesnt feel like the highest level of achievement, it feels like what everyone else has said, artificially extending the game by requiring unnecessary grinding for an RNG drop. Then once I have it I look the same as everyone else
-
2 RepliesIron banner is nothing compared to the raid lol the problem is u don't have to actually do anything and could obtain Lvl 32 gear
-
Hell no
-
3 RepliesNo you shouldn't get 32 from ib. Those chosen few who have conquered crota will be the 32's. And we will come forth and wreck the ib.
-
If so you should only be 32 in pvp and not in pve
-
I agree, there are many who don't like PvE and should not be forced to play it to get level 32. Make Iron Banner the main event for PVP like Raids are for PVE
