Bungie...you have a great opportunity here! Why would you not make the Iron Banner an exciting time in Destiny?
First off, we can't upgrade our Iron Banner weapons? Wth? Please at least apologize to all of us who busted our tail and wasted all that time to achieve these rewards. Not to mention the constant nagging from wives, all for nothing it seems.
We all know that the only way to get to 32 is to obtain raid gear playing PVE. The Iron Banner is the perfect format to offer those that don't like or can't do raids all the time, the same chance to obtain raid gear. I mean the game is called DESTINY...I should be able to reach 32 through PVP or PVE in my opinion, but both being equally challenging.
As a 31 Hunter, nothing in the IB (Iron Banner) is appealing to a wide majority of us. The best thing about it seems to be the sweet looking sniper, but I'm not about to work my tail off for days just to spend over 11k in glimmer for a freakin sniper with the IB logo slapped on it. And the Auto Rifle is the same, overpriced and a Dr. Nope with different crappy perks. So don't be surprised when NO ONE gets to rank 2.
Lord Salivate could offer a long quest, just like Eris, only valid through the IB week. At the end of the crucible quest, offer armor of raid equivalency or primary weapons with arc, void, or solar damage. I guarantee you that players would flock to the challenge. I just think you've missed an opportunity, and now this event is tarnished. It's fun playing without the caps, and I enjoy it, but it seems pointless for achieving a new reward. I'm disappointed I'll say, but the game is still awesome, still fun, and I'll continue to play. I just hope you'll consider a PVP path for players to take to achieve level 32 status.
**UPDATE**: For the ignorant who skim through this post, and are comparing the IB to the raid...your a moron. No one is saying that you should play this IB system and get raid gear. That's just retarded. What I propose is a very tough quest from Lord Salivate, much like Eris gave us a taste of, and make it gruelingly hard and time consuming. For instance "Kill 200 Guardians with a Sniper, landing the kill shot while invisible". Now imagine doing 12 of these during the week of IB. Obviously you would have to include DLC maps, because only DLC provides level 32. It would give people the option to grind to get a single raid equivalent weapon or armor piece. The End.

Edited by OuroborosWrath: 12/17/2014 7:08:14 AMIDEA: Giving PvP player lvl 32 Gear through Iron Banner. PROBLEM: Upgrading the armor would default to ascended shards which many players have an abundance of. They wouldn't use the Dark Below shards because they aren't Hive related gear. This raiders would then have 2 chests and 3 parts of the raid to earn their gear. (YES! Earned. Since they played the game enough to produce the desired results) Iron Banner spans over a week and the amount of time some people play would be equivalent to months of playing Crota's End trying to earn the gear and shards needed to reach 32. SOLUTION: Much like the VoG Bungie has mad a single source that can produce the required gear to reach the level cap so every player is on an even playing field. Basically there's no reason to complain since Bungie forces players to play PvP more than trying to force PvP players to play PvE. Even the factions use PvP currency and not PvE so yet again we are forced to play PvP to but the factions gear. EDIT: Also Raid gear is specific to the Raid so IB gear would be giving more player buffs that are useful in PvP creating an imbalance between players. There is Vangaurd and Crucible gear to reach 31 so at that moment it's balanced.

It might be yet. After all, we had 2 IBs before the quality 30 gear appeared.

2 RepliesWhy? Run the dang raid on normal... THE END. VOG separated armor drops making it difficult for some (so they say) to attain. The new raid has everything available on normal. Literally takes an hour and that's messing around. IMO Iron banner should have been the way to 31 and vendors should have only sold 30 gear to help those who couldn't get gear in VoG be able to run crota. I don't get it. They've literally made it easier to attain Lvl 32 by making all raid armor available in the normal raid and people still want more handouts.

Edited by DOOM: 12/17/2014 6:45:03 AMThe new content JUST came out. You really think they would practically give away easy level 32 gear already? Get real
-
What is the difference in raid players using their gear in IB and IB players using their gear in a raid?
-
The only reason the last iron banner dropped lvl 30 gear was to increase the population of 30s before the dlc came out. I have a feeling that a iron banner tournament near dlc2 release will drop 32 gear.

Lord salivate lmao

I have always thought IB should be the way to max out for PvP players (last IB was so funny seeing all the raid 30s get -blam!-!). So 32 light gear should be available in IB. Only 2 armor items per event so you couldn't even hit 32 so why not have 32 gear this event? As for the weapons not being upgradable i see it the same as raid weapons. All VoG weapons are only 300attack so I think it fair that we can't upgrade the last 1s. Maybe they should re-offer the old weapons again to buy as well as new 1s? (Fusion and scout) but the hand cannon and HMG are obtained as end game rewards so they will drop with the upgraded attack (haven't played enough this event to see anyone get them so I don't know of they do?) Or alternatively they could offer a trade in similar to the exotics to upgrade our IB weapons? Just my thought :)

14 RepliesI'm just saying that if you could get lvl 32 with iron banner, no one would do the raid, just because ib is super easy and the raid is not easy at all in comparison
-
IB will offer light 36 gear the week before HoW drops just like what they did with this expansion.... And dont worry. The next week the venders will sell light 39 gear to get everyone to 33.

It's Lord Salad bro.

I played Iron Banner the past two times to get some gear and weapons, but this time around? Not even interested. Rewards don't justify suffering through lag-infested PvP. They really dropped the ball on offering up even a single piece of 36 gear to at least assist those who prefer PvP. These rewards are sad. Cool looking, but sad.

Perhaps the Iron Banner will be back. Perhaps it will have better gear in about a month when the masses are 30-31. Perhaps...
-
I agree with this. 32 is guaranteed to be a long grind with raid gear and the shards/energy to upgrade it. Unless your the type to have 3 of the same class and have turned to deleting and re leveling a new character to get new rolls for shards in the same week. People should be able to get to max level in PvP, a precedent set in the last "Season" of Iron Banner, when the Lvl cap was 30. Why level up that rep for that gear or even one of the two not-so-special guns, when there's a burgeoning set of quartermasters offering the same level gear for less of a grind. Most of us that wanted 31 already have it, and since your level is your armor, nobody really cares about stats unless it's an exotic piece of armor. Like OP said, we should be able to obtain one piece of 32 capable armor. Even if it's a quest just make it so it's always a pair of gloves, like Eris so people can't exploit it to get a full set.

You forgot the #Satire bro.

I agree with this post. I can care less for raiding. I'm a solo player. I was hoping that the Iron Banner event would offer a path to level 32 without raiding. I was wrong. It's not even worth my time. I would rather farm crucible marks and buy Dead Orbit gear than buy the IB gear with stats i don't care for with 33 max light. I'll just ride level 31 and the top of the charts till the next expansion. And maybe by that time there will be a difference.

Maybe trials of Osiris will be

It's wayy to early for alternate ways to hit the cap
your a moron
No, good sir. *You're a moron.

I can't agree more with OP. Wth is wrong with you Bungie? Last IB you ditch max light level gear to players and this time crappy tower gear that gets you only to 31. Why Bungie? The bounties, the shaders, the emblems, the classes items are still the same. The weapons from the last IB are now obsolete. It's a freaking event, we should be able to reforge them to 331 ATK ffs. There's basically no point in doing this IB. It's just old recycled stuff and poor game design decisions. Congrats Bungie, you already made this event a failure.
-
For everyone arguing it, why cant we just have other options to get to 32, but raid gear would have a slight edge such as unique perks ans higher armor defense/more intellect/desipline/strength? Everyone wins
-
6 RepliesAs much as I dislike raiding no. This isn't call of duty where you level up from fighting each other. The main point of the game is raids. Get over it. They should stick with what they're doing. I got over it, so can you.

No. Just no.
