So who else did not manage to kill crota after hours of attempts? I spent hours and my last 5-10 attempts ended with him at about 10% health but he would get enraged. I am usually the swordbearer and have gotten good with the sword. Its just we usually have a hard time killing the Swordbearers at the right time. Also I feel bungie needs to either increase the time until he gets enraged or shorten the time before a new swordbearer comes out. What were your reasons for not finishing the raid.?
Edit. To those saying that you have to down him twice per sword are telling me nothing I dont already know. Usually I accomplish this but usually my group takes too much time chasing down Swordbearers that seem to know our strategy as well as waiting for the ogres to spawn. Each attempt of mine usually sees 4 sword drops and two pairs of ogres killed before enraged.
Edit. This week I managed to kill him twice with two characters. One of which I was sword bearer. What I have learned is that the sword holder should be a bladedancer so he can stand next to crotas while invisable. One time I got him to half health with one sword by using invisibility. You also need to kill both the Swordbearers and ogres as fast as possible. If you take too long for either then you have already lost. Also make sure crota is in the middle since he will run off the ledge on the sides or even follow you into the building. Although I have conquered Crota keep putting the advice in this thread to continually help out those who are having trouble.

2 RepliesSo get this, we literally have been trying to beat him since the raid came out every night for at least 2-3 hours. Last night we get one guy to come in and physically show us a strategy. He leaves and we beat Crota in a couple tries. After that we beat Crota 3 more times in one run we beat him in just under 5 minutes! It honestly is easy, I promise the first time you run it and best it everything will just click.

All of the casuals

Yeah, we were happy to make it to the deathsinger. We have a very strong team they were just not confident enough to jump back in and finish the job, I guess we will work up to it. But here is a fun video with us getting through the bridge part, I started the video from the beginning and we managed to get all 6 across, me being the last man across and wow I have never had an experience like this one in any other game EVER. Intense and amazing. One of our guys had to kill 2 Gatekeepers at once. Fast forward to maybe half if you dont want to watch the whole thing, the fun happens when it is down to me helping the 5th man out. Then I'm left alone to figure it out.
-
Finally beat him late last night. Got the rocket launcher for the hours of frustration.

4 RepliesRaises hand in shame. The lack of coordination makes me not even want to bother with the raid again.

I got my friends after 5 hours of fail we did it 3 times back to back to back since we had the plan knocked solid. The raid requires no skill just timing and lucky ammo drops. I use the new exotic gloves on my titan to increase heavy ammo. Never used my synt again. 3 ghorns 2 icebreakers 1 sword holder. Weapons of light is key. Down him 1 time off the start. Then he goes to the right. Time the swordbearer kill right as Crota's rotates middle. 2 downs miss. Half health and go down middle for Ogers. Break right when you kill the 2 Ogers kill all thrall and make way to left door. Repeat the same exact shit you did for the 1st time. Down him 1 middle then 2 middle. He should either be dead or 1 more down till dead. Do the Ogers shit again go left and do the last down on Crota. If you do it like this without mishap he won't go enraged. Once you pass the 2nd Ogers round you only have 1 last down before enrage. GL

The strategy I've used so far as swordbearer is I am first out the door on the way to chalice, I hurdle the small barrier on the bridge on my way to the chalice. This gives you a perfect line of sight on the swordbearer, I will hit him with gjallarhorn (any rockets will do) while I'm falling, when I land I immediately stick him with a grenade and snag the chalice. Kite him towards the rock you'll use to get to crota on the left and drop him with rockets below it. Snag sword and go crazy. I still think slash, slash, uppercut, slam is the best combo. Rinse and repeat. If he's on the right come from the left exit door and hide behind the barrier then sword dance across as your team is rocketing him, land and repeat sequence but skip slam unless you timed perfectly. This has been my favorite strat so far and downed him on all 3 this past week. A huge part of it is the swordbearer should dedicate all rockets to dropping the sword ASAP when you have crota where you want him.

Killed him 3 hours before :)

Edited by ZachTackSki: 12/16/2014 6:34:27 PMI was in the same boat until I used this strategy- whoever has abilities to spawn orbs do it on the left staircase where everyone else is standing. The orbs should roll down. Then draw sword-bearer out to bottom of stairs. Kill him and a blade-dancer with invisibility perks nabs sword and 2-3 orbs before heading the the small rock platform to the left of Crota's throne. Crouch for invis and call out when you turn. The raid group then bursts down crota's shield and blade-dancer should be standing next to Crota as he is being pummeled. Predict when he shield is about to drop then hold forward while mashing trigger. As soon as crota turns orange press y to drop sword then melee crota to gain invis from blink strike. Pick the sword back up and raid group should be killing crota again before he moves. Predict his shield deplete again and mash trigger while holding forward. On the last one use your sword super right after a heavy slam and it will cancel the animation and do more damage. Rinse repeat. You should kill him before getting to second Ogres once you get used to this.

I did not. We just could not damage him enough.
-
Most Sowrdbearers forget that they should use their heavy on the swordbearer to help taking him down on time.
-
Nope. If you guys ever want a pro sword weilder hit me up. Beat Crota three times as sword weilder with all three classes. Pro.
-
Use whatever heavy you have on that sword bearer. I pull out my ghorn and blast that mofo

Edited by Kwesdog: 12/16/2014 6:10:32 PMI failed to kill him as well though it was not by lack of effort. Seems like after the first couple of days the raid was open level 30 became the new level 29 with regard to LFG groups. Getting close to 31 but bungie decided not to have an upgraded titan helm on Xur last weekend thus dashing my hopes of making 31 quick enough (don't have enough shards to upgrade yet have enough energy for any weapon I like). Four of us, myself and a few buddies, just hopped in last night to check it out before the reset. We grabbed that easy first chest and coasted to that bridge bit before we stopped. We had a blast just messing around and enjoyed it even without getting a full group or finishing.
-
I failed. Almost had him many many times.
-
On my last 1 I'm glad because now I can get helmet
-
I tried a couple times but the groups i was with seemed to be terrible and couldnt get him down more than a 1/4. I wish i were 31 and could have tried. The rest of the raid seemed pretty easy though so idk what all the 31s only crap is all about. Had no problem taking down the gatekeeper my first try as 30 and my group didnt even explain that he would be there.
-
Me, sadly. Just couldn't get a team together to complete it.

Edited by CaerbannogRabbit01: 12/16/2014 6:07:20 PMAlmost failed to do it, but then I joined a raid group containing clan members. Got it done under a hour with them. It seems like it is impossible to beat Crota with strangers right now. The VOG was extremely tough in the first month, but then people learned their roles and the strategy required to beat it. Eventually it will become easier once people learns their roles and the strategy.
-
1 ReplyFirst time is the hardest my team spent 8-10 hours straight trying to beat him until we got that final round and everything went perfect and we beat him!. But now it takes 15 or less minutes to tackle him really simple
-
Same exact situation. We just didn't have enough damage.
-
I had lost all hope, but a group invited me and we wiped him fast within the first 3 attempts.
-
Sadly, I did not. I wasn't meant to beat him the first week. Tried for 8 hours with different groups. Got sooo close soo many times only for the sword guy to die by crota because of impatience or something a milisecond before Crota kneeled and the fight would have been over.....and that same exact same scenario happened a bunch of times so my morale is low. I drowned my sorrow telling myself its just a game.

Edited by Elazul: 12/16/2014 5:40:48 PMWas stuck at Crota since the day it released and spent probably a total of 12 or so hours actively trying. I never managed to get a team that worked well together. I think the worst team was a bunch of kids who were drunk or stoned or something who couldn't even get down to the middle safe spot before dying. Best team we managed to get Crota at 50% but then people had to leave due to real life constraints. Going to try again this week and failing that hopefully i'll at least get another piece or two of raid gear to level up to at least 31 so its a little easier(i'm 30 atm).
