Who failed to kill Crota before reset?

So who else did not manage to kill crota after hours of attempts? I spent hours and my last 5-10 attempts ended with him at about 10% health but he would get enraged. I am usually the swordbearer and have gotten good with the sword. Its just we usually have a hard time killing the Swordbearers at the right time. Also I feel bungie needs to either increase the time until he gets enraged or shorten the time before a new swordbearer comes out. What were your reasons for not finishing the raid.? Edit. To those saying that you have to down him twice per sword are telling me nothing I dont already know. Usually I accomplish this but usually my group takes too much time chasing down Swordbearers that seem to know our strategy as well as waiting for the ogres to spawn. Each attempt of mine usually sees 4 sword drops and two pairs of ogres killed before enraged. Edit. This week I managed to kill him twice with two characters. One of which I was sword bearer. What I have learned is that the sword holder should be a bladedancer so he can stand next to crotas while invisable. One time I got him to half health with one sword by using invisibility. You also need to kill both the Swordbearers and ogres as fast as possible. If you take too long for either then you have already lost. Also make sure crota is in the middle since he will run off the ledge on the sides or even follow you into the building. Although I have conquered Crota keep putting the advice in this thread to continually help out those who are having trouble.

Try and 'nade the adds on one side at the start and dash/jump through to save time. Use staggering weapons to keep the Swordbearer in one spot to be mowed down (Hand Cannons, Snipers, Shotguns, guns with the Oversize rounds) Don't kill the Swordbearer unless Crota's in an oppurtune position to attack and your runners are at optimum health to go. Your team should be downing Crota as you're jumping onto his platform, for maximum attack time. Potentially send a Titan along with the Swordbearer to drop Weapons of Light down (and can carry the Chalice for a potential trade-off if the first Sword-user gets caught by one of the Knights or something.)

  • I couldn't get it last week spent about a total of 6-7 hours just had terrible groups. I think Destiny was being nice to me though for a change and I ran it on Tuesday night with a great group. We beat it it about 1 1/2 hours straight through and I got every piece of raid gear except for the boots. When the helm dropped from Crota I screamed like a little girl!

  • I did not, but it was because my ex-friends failed me. Now that is why they're just some douchebags that I used to know.

    • Nope. And it's not hard with practice. It's like the Vault of Glass when we first started. It's hard but with weeks of practice it became easy.

    • Focus DPS (damage per second, MMO speak for cooperatively hitting a target or group of targets with large damage in a small amount of time. As a verb) is key to Crota fight. Go all the way to left staircase outside of the tower, have one person handle the Knights that spawn in the tower, everyone else should be shooting the swordbearer. When everyone is shooting the SB he should go down quickly. As soon as the sword drops and is picked up, the Sword holder should get on the rock next to middle of Crotas walkway. When he gets there, EVERYONE except the knight shooter shoots ghallahorns or some maxed rocked at him (jump when you shoot rockets so as not to shoot one of your teammates in the back). 3 Ghorn shots at once should do it. When he's about 10% shield send the sword holder to hit Crota. If they are late at all they get 2 hits max. If they get to him on time they can get 3. NO MORE. If the swordholder keeps dying from being hit by Crota. Suggest letting someone else use it. (No hard feelings someone might be better with it) They should be the last person to die. And self revive dosent help much. Oversoul is usually spawned anyways. As soon as he gets up DPS again ASAP to get another smashing in per sword drop. call outs are very important for this, there should be one person with at least one Crota completion, or an identified leader that says A. When the SB arrives and where he is located. (When to DPS him as well) B. When to DPS Crota. C. Where Crota is going (Left, right, middle) (Anybody can and should call out but when one person is assigned to it, it's better to keep voice chat uncluttered.) If he's not in the middle, it's hard to get the sword holder to him. The SB should never be killed if Crota isn't in the middle. The sword is on a timer the second someone picks is up so it's important Crota be as safely close as possible so that the sword holder can get there quickly. after 2 sword drops, 2 hallowed ogres Spawn. Everyone needs to immediately go to the very back of bottoms middle, where you begin the Deathsinger CP. Pull out icebreakers, heavies and focus DPS them. Should take less than 2 minutes after ogres are spotted. When ogres are dead, DONT LEAVE UNTIL CROTA IS MIDDLE AGAIN. and be prepared to face boomers and cursed thralls when returning back to the left staircase. (Ogres also spawn when the chalice is dropped) When Crota moves left (aka right next to your teams spot) go under as you would with ogres. Don't leave until he comes back middle. The key, like I said, is to coordinate a team to DPS targets, and to not be occupied with other things while Crota or the SB needs to be downed. The only person not DPSing is knight shooter. The faster this goes, the more time you have to squeeze hits on Crota before enrage. GHorns work great for Crota, and icebreaker shots to a SB's face will get em down fast. Crota and the SB can be dropped in less than 5 seconds with the right weapons and timing. With coordination, teamwork, and good pacing it isn't all that bad. BESIDES ALL THAT Don't die, and try not to get shot. It's not that hard, try using red death, blessing of light, flame shield, things like that if you find yourself needing the chalice often, or dying often. Oversoul is a huge burden, beside having to come revive someone. Call out powerful enemies, especially if your on knight duty, if boomer shots are coming, it's your job to prevent that by killing the 2 that spawn every minute (and one sword knight all the way in the middle) or tell your teammates to get out of the way. Weapons of light is okay, but if your teammates are dying switch to blessing of light so health isn't so scarce. SWORDHOLDER DONT GET GREEDY WITH THAT THIRD HIT play smart, don't go running places away from your team to generate orbs for a super or something like that. Stay with your team on this stage. (See "don't die") Swordholder must be 31 if you realistically want to beat Crota. The rest of the team must be at least 30. (You all know this by now) The person who grabs the chalice should try to Aggro the SB (aggravate him, get him to focus on you, get him to follow you back to the group) If you see the SB, from then on call him out and Aggro him so that he attempts to attack you. Don't go all the way out of your way to Aggro him, you want him to come to your group not to you. I know that was long, and there are better strategies for different teams, but this strategy works wonders for most first time CE runners. It's how I did it, and finally crushed Crota on the week it was released. TL;DR if everyone shoots at a target at once with a lot of firepower, SB and Crota will go down in seconds and if you can coordinate your team correctly it's not that bad.

    • Having a bladedancer hunter is a MUST. His invisibility is crucial to get on the platform with Crota so you can start hitting him as soon as his shield drops. If you still can't kill him, you are taking way too long to bait the Swordbearer. Take my video as some advice and maybe a new strategy. You need a sniper taking out the knights in the left tower. Good luck!

        • I failed, also failed to find a team on day 2 after dlc, groups were looking for players with "experience" all I've done is ran the first bit with a group then glitched out of the game. All I can do is watch youtube videos of record times and cry.

        • Yes we failed. Although we did get a good rhythm and started to do a lot of damage I simply couldn't finish and had to go work my overnight shift. :( But it's fine. It's happened before with Atheon and I still managed to ultimately get 95% of what I was after since running the raid every week from that point.

        • Got my titan and warlock through. All the groups I did on my hunter last night sucked. Never trust a group of 31s, they are just as crappy as 30s

        • No but I didn't try that hard. I don't care about clearing it super fast. I like the more natural method of going in, getting the gear you can and you'll eventually be geared enough to do it. I got lucky in there, too. I got boots and gloves!

        • We failed. Didn't have a whole lot of time on him though. 1/2 my clan still plays WOW nightly (tards >.<), or has families. So we really only had 1.5 hours 3 times. The hour or so we spent on him though, people kept dying to idk what (I was sword guy) so instead of being able to pop his shields they had to kill the oversoul or whatever. So we just kept wasting swords. I really don't know what was killing them either. I was frustrated. We'll get him this week I hope.

        • Once we start having 32's this will be much easier, consider it all training for Hard Mode right now. But yeah this happened to me ysterday, 8 hours and no clear. Thankfully got hit down after 4 more hours and a few member switching. Swordbreaker is amazing.

        •
Each attempt of mine usually sees 4 sword drops and two pairs of ogres killed before enraged.
That is how the fight is timed. One sword after ogres two. U don't kill him you are dead. Generally speaking. Try using r1 r1 r2. It does less damage but you may find yourself getting more hits in. It is also more forgiving for running away when he stands back up.

          • Last night was our first for my friend s and I. We got stuck at the wizard because we couldn't kill her fast enough. However, I wasn't motivated from what happened earlier. Some ass hat told me to leave at the bridge part and join back when they killed the ogre's. Came back and didn't get the drop and got pissed at us for not getting the chest in time. He took use up to wizards and that's about the time his friend joined and asked how many 31 are in. We said four along with the ass hat and his friend said kick my friends so we can just go forward to crota. Told him no, bring all of us or find a new group.

            • This guy right here. Lots of solid planning, poor execution and team coordination. And it always seems my friends invite me to try 10 minutes before I'm planning on signing off and going to bed. Starting to nod off during boss fights usually doesn't end well.
