If you want to know what unbalanced looks like, I'll tell you read on.
Tonight I jumped onto Destiny. As soon as I do, I join one of my Destiny friends whom I play with almost every day (meaning 5 out of 7 days a week). The conversation is a bit choppy so, we go to set up a chat. By the time I can set up a room he sends me an invite from someone else's chat party. He asks me if I want to do the new raid(FYI, we raid together all the time). He says that they are at the final boss and asks me if I had done it before. I reply that I have done it one time before but that we didn't beat him. Then another voice (that I don't recognize cuts in and says, "Do you have Gallahorn?" I reply, "No" because I don't. He then says, (I can't tell if to me or to my friend) "Sorry man, we need to grab two more Gallahorn guys." (It's not mentioned but I know that my friend has Gallahorn) There is about 3 or 4 seconds of background talk. Then it flashes across my screen, "You have been kicked out of the party." The guy kicked me out because I don't have Gallahorn.
If someone like me can be screened out on account of not having 1 particular weapon, then that weapon is broken.
That's not a brag or conceit, it's simply a fact. I play 6 or 7 days a week since release date. I have 3 level 30 characters, now one 31 and two 30's since the DLC. I ran the Vault of Glass 35 times. I have 12 exotic weapons and 11 exotic armors, not counting duplicates. I fit squarely in the "People who play Destiny too much club". But because I didn't have that 1 weapon none of it mattered. I just wasn't lucky enough to get a Gallahorn so that means I'm second tier.
No other explanation makes sense. They know that Gallahorn creates a separate tier. Gallarhorn is too overpowered to be offered at random.
So fix it Bungie. I'm not the type to rage quit over something like this. I know people make mistakes and any endeavor as big as creating Destiny is going have some mistakes made. However, I'm not the type to keep playing and more importantly, to keep paying, If I'm going to be considered a second tier player because of the luck of the draw.
EDIT: Dec. 16, 2014, 12:40PM CST
I posted the below in response to someone's comment further down in thread, but no one reads that far. Some people are still missing my point and I thing the response I gave below provides some context to what I mean.
..................................
But the issue not the competence of the other team. The issue isn't whether or not you actually do need Gallahorn to beat Crota. The issue is that one particular weapon so stands out from the others that it has started to become a basis of inclusion in the minds of gamers. That's what I'm reporting.
And nerfing the weapon is not the only solution. The problem is if a weapon both is a basis of inclusion AND is randomly obtained. To fix it you only need to solve one of the two. Either make it readily available, or make other substitutes that perform equally and are readily available. If the basis of inclusion were for instance, "The Devil You Know" or I guess now, "The Devil You Don't" that would not be a problem even if it were OP, because everybody can get it at will. Or if it were Hawkmoon as the basis of inclusion, but Thorn performed well enough to be create a legitimate argument as to which was better that would be okay. Thorn is close enough and is obtainable by everyone willing to do enough bounties; therefore Hawk would cease to be used as a basis of inclusion.
But Gally is a non-bounty exotic, and you can't get most non-bounty exotics at will, that is a problem.

Dude this is invalid, you have a sucky raid group if they are kicking you find new people. Also this is invalid because you can call every exotic op for a reason. Ghallijorn good boss launcher. Ice Breaker boss sniper unlimited ammo. Red death heals you. Bad juju unlimited shots. Vex op but fun. I guarantee you if you list just one exotic you have I can give a reason why its op. BECAUSE YOU KNOW WHY ITS EXOTIC. not legendary

1 ReplyEdited by Prof Sheitbag: 12/23/2014 10:48:18 PMYou got kicked for not having a Gjallahorn? That is stupid...really stupid... Someone should find that party leader and slap him for being a little bitch - "Oh boo hoo, we can not beat Atheon without the Gjallahorn...boo hoo maybe we could beat him if I understood how to play this game, but instead I am going to whine and cry and lean on one weapon like a sissy." <--- My impression of that party leader that kicked you. I have an Ice Breaker, and my bud has a Gjallahorn. In all fairness, I would have my IB equipped a hell of a lot more than the ghorn. Why? Because I never have to worry about ammo. Ghorn has what? 5 shots? Maybe 7 depending on gear? Then you need to hit the start button, go get a synthesis pack, and fire some more. Not to mention if you have idiot teammates who like to jump in front of your guns, chances are you will kill yourself when your bud says "I got this, bros!!!!!!!!!!!!!" Idiots who rely on one weapon to carry them through the game are pansies. Period. My Hunger of Crota, with it's cluster bombs, is a devastator - it may not be as badass as the Gollyhorn's wolf pack rounds, but it will pack a punch to stationary enemies, like Atheon. And if I time it right, I can hit him with the rocket, and several clusters while also taking out a wave of supplicants. The weapons are only as good as the person using them, and even with a shoot-now-think-later weapon like the Gollyhorn, it still is not enough to get you anywhere on it's own.

4 RepliesBungie commented ages ago that they didn't want a single weapon to dominate to the point that it stands out above the rest. So I'm sure it will one day get its nerf. I'm with you on your logic. If someone told me I couldn't run the VoG hard mode (at 29) because I wasn't level 30 (pre DLC) they were basically looking for the easiest path to victory. I could absolutely hold my own in the vault at 29. I would only run maxed weapons and had the experience. Doesn't matter. Most groups just don't want the "risk" associated with going in unprepared. Friend testimony aside, they know nothing of your capability, so they default to the one thing that's almost guaranteed: even a blind thumbless mule can fire the g-horn on accident and kill stuff. So let's just go with that. I don't agree with it, but that's people in general. I'm with you on the order of making other viable options. Hezens Vengence and Steel Oracle both have some interesting abilities (mini MIRV and cluster bombs respectively), but neither is a contender. :/

Hey, can you get a hold of that guy and let him know I have a gjallahorn and would like to join his team. You can join too if you have a.........oh, right. Sorry bout that.

-
Aka ban gallajhorn because you don't have it cry. You don't need gallajhorn to beat the raids, it just makes it easier and faster. Same thing with icebreaker. Do you need it? Nope. Does it make things a lot easier? Yes. By your standards that's a ban. Maybe RNGesus likes to see you cry and get left out so he withholds from you ;)
-
2 RepliesI don't have one either, but will some day soon... If you play as much as you insist you would have just bought it from XUR when it was available. Random drops and rarity is what makes the game exciting and keeps you running the raids. It is supposed to be hard, otherwise you would get bored. Learn to beat the game with the weapons you have. There is a guy that did Crota Solo. If that can be done then why would a team of 6 complain about not having Gjallahorn.
-
Don't cry nerf, it's the players you joined.
-
Don't mess up my gjallahorn with your nerfs. Just because you don't have one
-
You don't need it at all however it does speed things up
-
I don't even have a gjallahorn and I still think you're nuts. We need those for Crota! >:/
-
Ghorn works well on the swordbearer but is not necessary, and at 31 It takes crota down way too fast for the runner to get there in time to do anything. I've since reverted to using an lmg and icebreaker(not really necessary either but I have it)... There's no reason for them to have kicked you, asside from them just being bad(may be useful in other parts of the raid, but I've been unable to get a team to run it with all these crota cp's going around).
-
your friend sucks nobody needs gjallahorn to beat crota or atheon
-
TL;DR
-
1 ReplyYou said available which they did the second week when the game came out xur sold it and you didn't buy it and you can get it by RGN in Nightfall, Crucible, VOG, Crotas End raid etc. so quit your bitching because your so full of shit
-
They should not make it more common to get.
-
Shameful is what that is... I understand that Gjallarhorn is the rocket launcher of choice but to be kicked because you don't have one is pure ignorance on their part. We beat Crota multiple times without it being a requirement. And we've done it within 15 minutes, and that includes a couple of false starts.
-
All I see is your crying cause you don't have the launcher. And you want everyone else who wants it to pay. Get over your self and after looking at your stats the launcher would not help you
-
1 ReplyThe Real problem is our guns do not do enough damage period. 1 full clip with a AR cant kill a Vex, thats a sign ( on of many ) that bungie is just throwing numbers in the air and catching 1 and saying ok this # of damage it is. In no way should a hand gun be used over a AR. Just look at exotic guns, most are weak and not exotic except in name. These are all flags warning of us the problems with bungie\destiny.
-
2 RepliesYou know there is more than one winning formula to this raid. Stop being a whiner because it's not how you want to do it. Go find or start a clan for nimrods like you.
-
Screw gally....Hunger of crota all the way. Same perks pretty much and doesn't eat up an exotic slot for a rocket launcher.

Edited by vincam83: 12/18/2014 7:30:56 PMHaving gallyhorn or icebreaker on that fight is a massive benefit. They need to look into it. Not surprised a pug was looking for the extra firepower. There is only one guy on my raid team without either thankfully. He gets to do the sword.
